Having been in production since 1976, the Lotus Esprit’s development culminated in the Series 4 (S4) Esprit V8 model which launched in 1996 featuring Lotus’ own Type 918 twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter DOHC V8 engine. This example is among 1,237 Esprit V8s produced between 1996 and 2004 and is one of only 81 produced for the 2001 model year. Finished in Arctic Silver Metallic, it comes equipped with a 5-speed manual transaxle, AP Racing front brakes, 17”/18” OZ Racing wheels, black leather bucket seats, and an updated three-spoke Lotus Elise/Exige steering wheel. This Esprit V8 was originally sold in the United States and was imported to Canada in 2017 where it is now being offered for auction with approximately 25k miles showing on the odometer.

A continued evolution of the original design by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Series 4 Lotus Esprit was designed by Julian Thomson. It features pop-up headlamps, a black front chin spoiler, ducted rocker panels, rounded fender flares, a vented engine cover, and a fixed body-colored rear wing. This example is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic (B92) with gunmetal 17”/18” OZ Racing Saturn wheels. Equipment includes fog lights, a glass sunroof panel, dual exhaust outlets, facelift round taillights, and Lotus-branded AP Racing front brake calipers. The seller indicates the car is in excellent cosmetic condition. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin features black leather bucket seats with a matching dashboard, door panels, center console, and carpets. Accessories include an updated leather three-spoke Lotus Elise/Exige steering wheel, a satin silver shift knob, power windows and door locks, air conditioning, and an Alpine sound system. The original four-spoke leather steering wheel is included in the sale.

Rated at 350 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque, this Lotus is equipped with an all-aluminum 3.5-liter V8 DOHC engine featuring twin Garrett turbochargers and a flat-plane crankshaft. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual transaxle, and cross-drilled disc brakes are mounted at all four corners. The seller indicates a service was carried out in preparation for the sale.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Rare bird with a perfect CARFAX. Rear mid-engine V8, twin-turbo, 3-pedal manual, low miles, luxurious cabin, exquisite exhaust notes, and the list goes on and on.”

@gsdb2018 No records or seller performing this in preparation of sale will definitely hurt this auction. Shame because this appears to be a great car. I'd love to drive this back across the border but deathly afraid of the age of that belt.

If the timing belts were replaced did your mechanic indicate what color they were when inspected? Most people replace them with gates blue belts which are built significantly better than Lotus OEM. Either way timing belts age just as much with mileage as they do time. No records is a shame.

    Good morning,

After digging for more information, The timing belt was supposedly replaced in 2018 at roughly 19 000 miles by the owner who imported the vehicle. There is no documentation to support this, however it does make sense since the vehicle was just inspected and the timing belt was verified by Strasse Autowerks(very reputable specialized garage) with no sign of wear. If it were an original belt, there would definitely be signs of wear after 20+ years!

    Hope this helps!

@McGyver228 I Totally agree. It’s true for any vehicle BTW. I’ll check with owner & report. Will be Next custodian’s prerogative to have this done, if not done recently. It may have been done, though. To be continued. Stay tuned!

  • McGyver228 (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

Sorry but I beg to differ as a former owner of a Lotus Esprit V8.
The service intervals ( which include the idler and tension bearings as well as the belts ) are not only dictated by mileage but also time. If you have no record of the previous replacement, then most likely they are overdue.
If they are original belts on a 20+ year old car, you are flirting with disaster.

  • AlexBert (seller) 1 month, 1 weekago

@McGyver228 The timing belt inspected and did not required any servicing or replacement. 25k miles only on the odometer.

Additional info ℹ️: Original Alpine Radio faceplate needs replacement. Could use upgrade of the sound system. Next owner’s prerogative.

  • McGyver228 (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

I don't see any information regarding the timing belt service.
Can you provide documentation if and when this necessary maintenance was performed and at what mileage.
