Available for auction is this 2001 Honda S2000 AP1 finished in Mellow Yellow over a black interior. Equipped with a high-revving 2.0-liter engine producing an impressive 120 HP per liter stock, the S2000 remains one of the most venerated Japanese sports cars of all time. This 2001 example is said to have been acquired by the seller in 2009 and has since been customized with widened bodywork, carbon fiber fenders, doors, a rare carbon fiber Mugen hardtop, Recaro SPG seats, a 6-speed AP2 transmission, engine upgrades, and much more. Now showing approximately 56k miles showing on the odometer, this tastefully modified S2000 is being offered for auction by its owner out of California.

This S2000 was recently refinished in the BMW/Mini color of Mellow Yellow after being fitted with widened carbon fiber “downforce” fenders, an aluminum hood, Veilside front bumper, splitter, lip, and Seibon carbon fiber doors. The rear quarter panels have been widened and a rare Mugen carbon fiber hardtop has been fitted over the cockpit. It rides on a set of bronze finished 17” WedsSport TC 105N wheels dressed in Bridgestone RE11 from 2010. Detailed images can be found in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX.

The cabin has been fitted with a pair of black Recaro SPG sport seats and an Alcantara-wrapped Sparco steering wheel. Other features include an upgraded short shifter and titanium knob, an engine start button, aluminum pedals, and a digital instrument display. The seller confirms all accessories and instrumentation are fully functional.

The naturally aspirated 2.0-liter F20C inline 4-cylinder engine features VTEC variable valve timing and an output of up to 240 HP stock. The engine has been upgraded with a BMC Racing intake manifold, a Koyorad aluminum radiator, a Fuelab fuel pressure regulator, an AEM engine management system, and a Burns stainless steel exhaust system. The rear wheels are driven by way of an upgraded 6-speed manual transmission sourced from a later AP2 model. Braking and chassis upgrades include an AP Racing big brake kit, KW V3 coilovers, Eibach sway bars, and polyurethane bushings throughout. The car has been driven sparingly over the past 12 years and was recently treated to a full service including fresh oil, transmission, and brake fluids.

This sale will include a clean title.

Hey guys just under an hour to go. This really is a great car and if it hits reserve or gets close i will let u guys know. There has been a lot of talk about SMOG. The car has not been smog'd since i last had it registered in 2016. It has probably been driven less than 100 miles since then. I pull the car out about once a month, warm her up and take her around the block. The car starts up right away and runs perfect. Im not sure about all the different regulations in differnt states, however here in CA where I am located a smog is only required if selling party is selling the car as a "dealer" transaction. I am more than happy to help a potential buyer in any way I can. I have been registering a lot of my "personals" in Montana lately and they seem to be pretty easy going. Happy to pass the dmV agency that takes care of my MT registrations. Thanks again for all the watchers and bidders!!

New photos added to the gallery showing what the car looks like with the wing mounted. I personally think it looks cleaner without It but if the car sells and new owner wants it I’ll throw it in. I also have a APR carbon diffuser I gotta pull out of storage. That will be included also.

@jonas1jp not getting aggressive at all. I have been a licensed California dealer for 16 years. I know the law. I don’t appreciate when people say things that are inaccurate and I correct them. Plain and simple. I don’t believe my attitude is hurting the auction but it is what it is. If somebody is so concerned about smog then this is not the car for them so please don’t bid. I have Owned this car for over 10 years and I know what I have. If it doesn’t sell it’s not the end of the world. This is a private party transaction. I do not need to smog the car, whoever buys the car is responsible. So please don’t bid if u are so concerned. Thanks.

  • jonas1jp (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@smg_clyde No need to get aggressive. Your attitude is undoubtedly hurting this auction. You’ve got a great vehicle here, but it commands some questions. Smog is a legit issue for many of us regardless of our environmental leanings. If it won’t pass, I can’t register it in Colorado. Simple as that.

@bigbeah just the compressor and no unfortunately I do not have it. Glad u don’t care about smog. Seems like we got some sensitive tree huggers in here. Note: if ur a tree hugger this car is not for u. And this is not a desperate fire sale by any means. If the car doesn’t hit reserve it will stay in my warehouse with all her siblings.

  • bigbeah (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@smg_clyde What components of the air conditioning were removed? All of it? Or just the compressor? Do you have the removed parts? Is there room to reinstall them, or were they removed because the aftermarket parts wouldn’t fit? Also, I’m from Minnesota so IDGAF about smog lol

  • smg_clyde (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@bigbeah the AC has been removed along with the retractable soft top all for weight savings. I ran this thing on a dyno years ago. I remember it being somewhere around 245 or so to the wheel. Factory rates these things 240 to crank.

  • smg_clyde (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@zakiu i am not wrong. The law is different when being sold as a private Vs a dealer but not worth wasting my time with a keyboard warrior like yourself. If ur not bidding ur welcome to leave the auction bud. If u need a job because u are bored we are hiring!!

  • bigbeah (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@smg_clyde Is the A/C in tact? What kind of power does this make with the given mods? Has it ever been on a dyno?

  • zakiu 2 years, 6 monthsago

@smg_clyde Unless the law has changed, you're wrong. The car is not under 4 years old. Private sales of cars over 4 years old are still subject to SMOG in CA.

    GLWA

  • smg_clyde (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@zakiu Thanks for the comment but seller is only legally required to smog a vehicle prior to sale only if it is a dealer transaction. This is one of my personal cars, titled in my name so it does not require a smog to be sold. But thanks for ur incorrect input!!

  • zakiu 2 years, 6 monthsago

@BidAllWinNone Seller is legally required to provide a valid SMOG for CA buyers last I checked.

  • smg_clyde (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@BidAllWinNone Thanks for the bid, I just wrote up an explanation about the smog but it disappeared. Don't u hate it when that happens lol. I have owned this car since about 2009-2010 i believe. I purchased it from a close friend so was familiar with the car prior to owning her. The car is in amazing condition. I think i have only taken it to the track (willow springs) once or twice. The tires are still brand new but expired. U can still see the little circle red stickers on the tires. I had the car registeded until about 2016, thats when i decided to register her as a non-op, up until then i had it registered every year and always passed smog. Nothing on the car has changed since then so im sure it will pass again. Just needs to be driven a bit. If anybody has any more questions please let me know. Its a great car with absolutely no issues and ready for a new home. I have decided to sell her because my collection has grown quite a bit and i am selling off some of my cars that i literally "never drive" she deserves a good home where somebody will actually drive her. i also have a carbon APR wing with a custom chassis mounted aluminum bracket that slides into the rear bumper where u can see those inserts. That will also be included if the new owner wants it. Thanks again.

  • BidAllWinNone (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

Will this come with valid smog certificate for California buyers?
