The E36/7 BMW M Roadster debuted in 1997 as the high-performance version of the Z3 Roadster housing an M3-derived inline-six paired to a 5-speed manual transmission along with a limited-slip differential, widened bodywork, a model-specific aerodynamic kit, an M-tuned sport suspension, and larger brakes borrowed from the E36 M3. This 2001 example is believed to be one of only 39 finished in Phoenix Yellow Metallic over Black Nappa leather interior. Kept under the meticulous care of its seller, this M Roadster is now being offered with approximately 33k miles on the odometer.
The exterior is finished in Phoenix Yellow Metallic with a paint-matched hardtop. The M Roadster can be distinguished from a standard Z3 by its wider rear track, aerodynamic side mirrors, M-style bumpers, vented fenders, and quad exhaust outlets. The factory 17” BMW Style 40 “Roadstar” wheels are mounted. The seller adds that the front license plate bracket holes have been filled and finished under previous ownership, a short antenna has been fitted, and minor signs of road wear are present. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin features Black Nappa leather sport seats with a matching dashboard, center console, and door panels. Model-specific details include M Roadster-branded door sill plates, chrome-ringed M instrumentation, a leather M-Sport steering wheel, and a ZHP shift knob. Newly installed OEM items include a shifter knob, seat bushings, a seatbelt guide, and a rearview mirror. The seller adds that the speakers have been updated, Bluetooth capability has been installed, and minor wear is shown on the driver's seat bolster. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The M Roadster is powered by a 3.2-liter S54 derived from the E46 M3 generating up to 315 HP and 252 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, allowing acceleration from 0-60 MPH in approximately 5 seconds. Performance features include an M-Sport suspension with a lower ride height, stiffened springs and dampers, strengthened semi-trailing arms, and a reinforced subframe. Routine maintenance since 2019 is shown in the CARFAX report along with extensive documentation.
This sale will include a clean title, owner's manuals, and a window sticker.

@dabdella Hi Dabdella! Thanks! My apologies, but I am not familiar with smog and DMV concerns in California...but since there are no modifications to the car, I would assume it's fine?
Hi, beautiful car!
I'm in CA, is everything in place to pass a Smog Cert. & DMV Inspection ?
Thanks!

Paint meter pics are up...tried to show in "MIL" and "MM"...but either way, the numbers are uniform around the car.

Added the Otto's BMW inspection video...and somehow a video I sent to a guy about the seat condition. :)
I have a pretty crappy paint meter off of Amazon that I will try to get meter readings off of and post.
@collectorcars Hi Collectorcars! Picture #117 are the subframe welds from under the car, #118 is the diff ear.
I might be able to upload the video from the Otto's BMW inspection in which the tech reviews the car while it is up on the lift - everything checked out, clean bill of health. Unfortunately, I will not have access to a lift before the auction ends.
As for Vin Tags, I think I got them all in the pics? Are there ones you would like to see in particular?
If you are local, more than welcome to see the car in person.
Please post all vin tags, and post trunk weld pictures confirming no cracks, also under carragie showing subframe.

Items to make "perfect" - none of them are related to drive-ability, purely cosmetic:
Picture #26: chip in paint behind passenger front wheel, smaller than a dime.
#28 wheel rash
#32 roundel "B" slight fade
#34/#139 lower front grill chip
#45 rear panel gap (very slight)
#55 Passenger door lock spins, but does engage
#58 side marker (car comes with clear, I just never put them on)
#65/66 wheel rash
#74 driver seat bolster
#83 passenger seat stain
#91 door card interior at window - slight ungluing.
#96 hand brake leather wear
Also have the glove box kit as a preventative measure, doesn't need it.
@zollerm Hi Zollerm! Good call, sorry I forgot to include those - just added. The top is in very good shape with the slightest hint of hazing starting in the upper left behind the driver's side. Motor works well, no issues. The hard top hasn't come off in over a year, and the soft cloth that came with the car is tucked between the plastic folds.

Great car. May we see some pictures of the convertible top? Thank you.
Welcome to the auction of this great 2001 Z3 M roadster! Wonderful car, amazing motor, great service history with window sticker.
Pictures detail what it would need to be "perfect" - very small cosmetic items...otherwise, new tires, full brakes...car rips and attracts a lot of attention (example is the thumbs up in the driving video)!
Available for questions as needed. Thanks!
@Dwhite Yes - it was in deal tank. Thanks!
Was this the car in dealtank for the last several months? Looks identical.
It’s a stunner! Good luck with the auction!
