The E53 X5 was BMW’s first venture into the SUV market, borrowing components from the E39 5-Series sports sedan as well as technology from Land Rover, which was owned by BMW at the time. This 2001 example is said to be one of just 7 modified by BMW tuner Dinan with feature their Stage 3 Package, including Dinan Brembo brakes with floating rotors, a, engine and transmission tune, a high-flow intake manifold and throttle body, a Dinan/Vortech supercharger with blow-off valve, a Dinan exhaust, modified air suspension, front strut bar, and camber plates. Finished in Titanium Silver Metallic over a Grey Montana leather interior, this X5 was originally purchased in Sherman Oaks, California, traded into a dealership in Nevada, and eventually moved to Florida where most of the modifications were completed. Accompanied by extensive service records showing the replacement of the timing chains, guides, tensioner, VANOS system, camshaft solenoids, and reseal of the engine, this rare X5 Dinan S3 is now being offered at auction by its seller out of California showing approximately 123k miles on the odometer.
The exterior is finished in Titanium Silver Metallic (354) and features Shadowline gloss black trim, black roof rails, red Brembo brake calipers, tinted xenon headlights with upgraded LED “halo” rings, headlight washers, tinted foglights, a rear spoiler, polished Dinan quad exhaust tips, and Dinan badging on the rear hatch. A new windshield and gasket have been installed and the seller describes some clear coat deteriorating on the headlight lenses and a touch-up on the driver’s side quarter panel. The driver’s door handle is also said to be sticky and requires a bit more effort to pull open than others. The 20” Style 87 wheels are mounted with Toyo Proxes ST III tires.
The cabin is upholstered in Grey Montana leather with a contrasting black dash topper accented by wood trim. Amenities include power-adjustable and heated front sport seats with darker grey inserts, automatic climate control, Parking Distance Control sensors, a glass power sunroof, roller sunblinds for the rear windows, a 16:9 widescreen infotainment screen with navigation, a hi-fi audio system, and an Anthracite headliner. The seller reports some minor wear to the driver’s seating surface and describes the cabin to be in very good condition otherwise.
This X5 is equipped with a 4.4L M62 V8 modified with a suite of Dinan performance parts including a Vortech supercharger with blow-off valve, Dinan tuning software, a Dinan high-flow intake manifold and throttle body, and a Dinan exhaust system. Other Dinan modifications include front and rear Brembo brakes with floating rotors, a Dinan-modified air suspension system, a Dinan front strut bar, and camber plates. A serialized plaque in the engine bay identifies this as an authentic Dinan-tuned vehicle. Records indicate a consistent history of maintenance including completion of BMW major service Inspections 1 & 2, a new transfer case at 69k miles, a new supercharger at 70k miles, a full cooling system overhaul at 76k miles, and new valve cover gaskets along with a reseal of the front and top end of the engine. The transmission was replaced at 86k miles, and the timing chains, guides, tensioner, and camshaft solenoids were replaced at 104k along with the VANOS variable valve timing system. Additional maintenance includes a full front-end suspension rebuild, replacement suspension air pump, and new CV boots. The seller notes the Dinan supercharger system is 50 state legal, and this X5 recently passed a California smog inspection.
This sale will include three sets of keys, owner’s books, the original window sticker, and comprehensive service records.

Looking forward to closing out a deal with bidders on this car. She deserves a loving new home.
@Blubyeyou if a vehicle does not reach reserve we give anyone who bid the first right of refusal before it goes into DealTank. Thank you for the question.
Why does it take so long on this auction site versus bat and cars and bids to determine if the car is sold or not?
The blower has no leaks, all of the maintence has been done. You won’t find a better turn key sleeper anywhere
Bid in the amount of $17,450
I should also mention this is one of 9 dinan cars in my collection. I am good friends with Steve Dinan and their original team from Morgan Hill CA. They actually remember the build of this car as it was the only one built outside of CA HQ. A X5m before it’s day.
This could be parked at any car show and get crazy attention and even win an award

Hi there PCAR market, fan, bidders, and BMW lovers alike! I would like to welcome you to the auction of my extraordinarily rare Dinan Stage 3 X5. This car is the ultimate sleeper and is ready for an appreciating new owner. The records speak for themselves on this car as it really does present over the top! I will be available the whole week to answer any questions or concerns you might have. I am also happy to show the car in person and offer test drives if you are in the Bay Area. Thank you!
@URS6 Hey there! There is a bit of tire noise but most of what you hear is the actual whine from the blower. Even sitting at idle the X5 has a fantastic mechanical gear whine to it, it only gets better with revs!!
Beautiful Dinan X5! Are we hearing some driveline whine or tire hum in the video?
