Introduced in 1999 and unavailable for sale in the U.S., the first-generation 996.1 GT3 marked Porsche’s return to motorsport-bred homologation road cars and laid the foundation for the modern GT-car lineage. One of 1,858 examples produced in total, this GT3 was delivered new in Germany and owned for its first 14 years by World Rally Champion Petter Solberg. It later resided in Porsche collections in Norway before being imported to Florida in April 2025. This GT3 came factory-finished in Black over a matching interior and was transferred to Werk 1 through Porsche Exclusive/Sonderwunsch for the installation of optional Recaro bucket seats and a roll cage. The car has been modified with a Cargraphic exhaust and benefits from recent maintenance, including new fluids, filters, belts, spark plugs, and a clutch kit. Imported to the U.S. in April 2025, having reached the “25-year rule” exemption, this rare first-generation GT3 is now being offered for auction out of Florida with approximately 40k kilometers or 25k miles showing on the odometer.

Based on the 996 Carrera, the GT3 uses the bodyshell of the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 and features a unique front spoiler, side skirts, and a fixed rear wing. This example reportedly wears its original Black (A1) paint, and the condition is said to be commensurate with the car’s low mileage. Red Porsche-branded brake calipers are mounted behind two-piece 18” Sport Techno wheels with new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires mounted in 2021, within the last 1,800 miles. Some minor chips are noted on the front bumper, as well as a small ding near the driver’s door handle and faint wiper blade outlines on the windshield.  Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The Black leather interior showcases factory-installed Recaro bucket seats and a roll cage from Porsche Exclusive/Sonderwunsch. Accessories include a three-spoke leather steering wheel, optional automatic climate control, manually adjustable mirrors, reduced sound deadening, Porsche-branded floor mats, GT3 logo door sills, a central locking system, and a Porsche CDR-22 stereo. Petter Solberg's signature appears on the rear center console.

Sharing its architecture with that of the 962 and 911 GT1 race car, the 3.6-liter Mezger M96/76 flat-six engine was factory-rated at 360 HP and 273 lb-ft of torque. It delivers power to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The GT3 is equipped with larger cross-drilled brakes than a standard Carrera and features a lowered sport-tuned suspension with adjustable coilovers and anti-roll bars. An aftermarket Cargraphic 100-cell catalytic converter and muffler set was installed in 2024, and the original exhaust components are included in the sale. Recent services in 2024 and 2025 include a wheel alignment, an oil filter change, a new fuel filter, a pollen filter, an air filter, windshield wipers, spark plugs, belts, hood shocks, and a brake fluid flush. The original clutch was replaced along with the transmission fluid within the last 500 miles.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, two keys, a toolkit, a binder of documentation, a signed cap, a fitted Porsche cover, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This car is a piece of Porsche history, with it being the very first model that started the GT3 saga. It’s been an honor to keep it in my collection, and my wish is that it goes to a fellow Porsche enthusiast who will carefully enjoy it on some proper roads. Something we don’t have here in South FL. It is truly a special car to drive.”

Tire says 18". Tough to fit that on a 19" rim. Error in description.

Sorry how long have you owned it? Says imported April 2025 here?
DME output would be helpful on over revs

@9146max yes the AC is beautifully cold like a 996 should be. And everything is all original and no sign of any leaks or previous refill on the car or in the service records.

@audipwr1 I have no record showing that the coolant lines were pinned since this was mostly done for cars that went on the race track for safety. and this car was not raced. but there has never been any evidence of leaks of any kind.

Good morning and welcome to the auction of my very special first generation GT3. Its with a heavy heart i sell this car, but after a few years of ownership and great memories of owning the car in Europe and now bringing it here to FL, It is time to pass it on to the next enthusiast. I am here to answer any questions you may have and all I can say is that I spent several years waiting for this particular car to come for sale. And when it was offered to me, I was already trying to cut down on my collection but could not miss the opportunity to own this special car. As some of you may know, Rally car drivers in Europe are really our heroes in the car world, so to own a car with this owner history was really special to me and the previous owner. So rest assure that this car was always treated very special.
