Commissioned by the current owner as a tribute to Jaguar’s Le Mans-winning D-Type race car, this one-off replica was manufactured by Realm Engineering in Worcestershire, England, and assembled by a Jaguar specialist in New York circa 2000. It features British Racing Green bodywork over a beige Connolly leather upholstery and is powered by a rebuilt 3.8-liter straight-six Jaguar E-Type engine paired with a Medatronics T5 manual transmission. It also features triple SU carburetors, XJS suspension and brakes, an MGB steering rack, five-point safety belts, and BBS wheels. This road-legal D-Type replica has been driven just over 15k miles and is now being offered for auction out of Massachusetts.
Finished in a traditional British Racing Green paint color, the lightweight fiberglass bodywork is mounted to a steel E-Type style frame with an aluminum tub. Equipment includes a wraparound driver’s windscreen, a roll hoop, a headrest fairing, a removable passenger-side tonneau cover, a vented clamshell hood, triple mirrors, leather hood and boot lid traps, side-mounted dual exhaust tips, an external cutoff switch, and 15”x8” BBS wheels dressed in Hoosier racing tires. A second set of wheels with Dunlop-design caps and spinners, stock headlights, and accessories for road use are included as well.
The cockpit features beige Wilton carpeting and matching Connolly leather upholstery on the integrated seats. Accessories include a three-spoke Jaguar steering wheel, red five-point G-Force safety belts, a polished handbrake and gearshift lever, a fire extinguisher mount, and analog Smiths instrumentation. All gauges and electronics are said to be fully functional.
The car is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six engine that was sourced from a 1963 Jaguar E-Type and paired with a 5-speed Medatronics T5 manual transmission and a 3.54 rear end. The block, crank, and head were machined, and the engine was rebuilt with new pistons, rods, bearings, valves, guides, triple SU carburetors, and a cold air box. The chassis also features Jaguar XJS brakes and suspension, an electric cooling fan, and an MGB-derived steering rack.
This sale will include an extra set of wheels and a clean title for a 1963 Jaguar D-Type.
The seller would like you to know: “This is a stunning year 2000 Realm Engineering Replica of the Jaguar D-Type race car with just 15,308 miles on the odometer. Finished in British Racing Green (of course!) with a Beige, Connelly Leather, and Wilton carpeting interior, she makes a significant statement, is sophisticated and fast. This car will make you proud to drive on the road or on the track, she is an exceptional automobile. This 2000 Realm Engineering Replica of the Jaguar D-Type was built by Realm Engineering (Honeybourne Worcestershire, UK) in the year 2000. These cars have been lauded by some of the best-known race drivers and Realm Engineering has earned a deserved reputation over almost 40 years for its RAM recreations. Their original Jaguar D-types had chassis design input by Reynard Racing resulting in a superb recreation delivering great performance and outstanding handling. Back in the day, Sir Jack Brabham took a Realm D-Type for a spin and said that is was better than the original car. Richard Noble owns/owned one, and Jaguar Quarterly magazine gave the car accolades for its handling beyond question. This replica of Jaguar's Le Mans-winning D-Type Jaguar features steel e-type-like frame supporting its glass fiber bodywork with an aluminum passenger-carrying interior tub. This Realm reproduction was acquired from Realm Engineering, was completed by a well-respected Jaguar shop in New York, and has almost exclusively Jaguar running gear utilizing BBS wheels with Hoosier 25.5 X 8.00 15-inch tires mounted. A complete list of the components from Realm can be made available upon request. The engine fires up easily and she runs extremely well.”
