The first M5 model to offer a V8, the BMW E39 was introduced at the Geneva Auto Show in March of 1998 equipped with the venerable 4.9L S62 engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. It was also the first M5 to use aluminum front suspension components and four-link rear suspension, contributing towards a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Finished in Silverstone Metallic over a seldom-seen Le Mans Blue and Black Nappa leather interior, this 2000 BMW M5 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Tennessee with approximately 129k miles showing on the odometer.
This M5 comes finished in Silverstone Metallic with chrome window trim and black side moldings. It can be distinguished from the standard E39 by its revised front and rear bumpers, side skirts, trunk lid spoiler, aerodynamic mirrors, and quad exhaust outlets. Accessories include xenon headlights with washers, fog lights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and M5 badging on the trunk lid and side moldings. It rides on black-finished 18″ Style 65 wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The seller adds that a paint correction was performed and notes a touched-up scratch on the right-side mirror cover and touched-up paint chips on the hood. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, occupants are welcomed by Le Mans Blue and Black Nappa leather upholstery complemented with brushed aluminum trim. Equipment includes heated power-adjustable M Sport Seats with driver memory settings, a three-spoke M Sport multifunction steering wheel, an M Sport shift knob, M5-branded door sills and floor mats, an M-branded footrest pedal, and M5-specific gauges with engine warmup lights. The driver is also provided with power windows and mirrors, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, and cruise control. The seller adds that an aftermarket head unit with navigation and Bluetooth compatibility has been installed, along with an aftermarket amplifier. The rear parking sensors do not emit beeping sounds and the date in the gauge cluster cannot be adjusted. Additionally, a tire defect warning occasionally illuminates, although it can be overridden by turning the vehicle off and on.
Power comes from a naturally aspirated 4.9-liter S62 V8 engine featuring double-VANOS variable valve timing, individual throttle bodies, hollow camshafts, and a quasi-dry-sump lubrication system. Up to 400 HP and 369 lb.-ft of torque is sent to the rear wheels through a Getrag 420G 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The vehicle has undergone several maintenance updates over the years. The clutch was replaced in 2017, followed by the valve cover gaskets in 2018. In June 2023, the right rear strut and power steering hose were replaced. An oil change was performed in May 2024, and the air conditioning system was recharged in August 2024. Additionally, an aftermarket exhaust system has been installed.
This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a car cover, and sales literature.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you all for visiting my auction. I have owned the vehicle since June 2023. The E39 has been my weekend car ever since purchase. The E39 M5 are already a special vehicle, this particular one is even more rare. The current spec build based of leather, interior and exterior color there was only 13 produced that year worldwide and 1/2 in North America. I have garage-kept the car during my ownership and based off the condition of the car it’s easy to tell the car has been garage-kept and maintained its entire life. The CarFax and Autocheck history report does not accurately reflect the number of owners as it’s actually around 4 with me included. The owner before me, moved from OR to TN which registered as a new owner.”

@StuM Thank you! It is by far the best vehicle I’ve ever owned.
Pretty car. I bought this exact spec, new, back in the day. Had a 540i on order, but when the M5 suddenly became available, I scooped it up immediately. Great car and sure wish I still had it. GLWA
