Representing Porsche’s original mid-engine Boxster sports car, this 1999 example comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a Boxster Red Special Leather interior and features a 5-speed manual transmission along with the optional Sport Package. The car is supported by a history of ownership dating back to the original purchase as well as invoices for an LN Engineering IMS bearing upgrade along with a new clutch and rear main seal in 2021. Showing approximately 72k miles on the odometer, this 986 is now being offered for auction by its fourth owner on the East Coast.
This Boxster is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic with a black convertible top and factory 17” 996 Twist wheels with colored Porsche crested center caps. Some cosmetic imperfections are depicted in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report, and the seller states new Sumitomo tires were mounted in March 2021.
The cabin is appointed with Boxster Red Special Leather upholstery and includes an exclusive painted rear center console as well as a shifter and handbrake lever with aluminum trim. Other factory features include the Sport Package, cruise control, Hi-Fi Sound Package, a CD shelf center console, and a remote control alarm system. The seller reports all gauges and accessories to be fully functional apart from the CD changer.
A mid-mounted 2.5-liter flat-six engine produces up to 201 HP and 181 lb.-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transmission. The starter motor was rebuilt in 2021 shortly before the current owner’s purchase along with the installation of new brake pads. Since purchasing the car in October 2021, the seller commissioned extensive servicing including the replacement of the clutch, rear main seal, spark plugs, ignition coils, ignition lock/switch, engine mounts, and an LN Engineering IMS bearing upgrade. A corresponding invoice is provided for reference.
This sale will include a clean title.

Sold for $9,250
Well bought- I was fighting every urge to place a bid. This is the right color for an early Boxster!
Bid in the amount of $9,250
Good morning, the reserve has been lifted, someone is going to get a nice car, happy bidding, and please reach out with any questions whatsoever!
@pickleman greetings----the AC blows cold----absolutely no smoke, engine is perfect, it does not use extra oil, no leaks, had a synthetic oil change upon purchase 1,500 miles ago----yes, I'm in north Florida, thanks
Nice car - does the AC work? When is starts up, is there any smoke? Does it use oil? How often do you have to add a quart? Is the car in Florida?
Bid in the amount of $8,986
@Donstar1 Thank you so much for your responses. GLWS
@jordansolo greetings, the shifter looks to be original stock——re. the rear window, you could park it outside, the clear stickers keep it sealed, and I have a car cover I am including as well, thanks
This is a stunning car! 2 questions: 1. Is the shifter factory or aftermarket? 2. Is the rear window leaking? Would it be possible to park the car outside or would the rear window leak?
@PeterZ60 greetings, I am the 4th owner.
1st owner had it from April '99 to Sept. '13 to 52,983 miles
2nd owner Sept. '13 to to March '21 to 69,789 miles
3rd owner from March '21 to Oct. '21 to 70,196 miles
I purchased it in Oct. '21, now with 71,570 miles.
Negatives----2 small cracks in the plastic rear window, and at some point new front struts will be needed per my mechanic.
Normal wear on the interior/exterior, but overall it's in very good condition and runs amazing.
Thanks
Thanks
How many owners? Any negatives?
@Porschelover30 greetings, I went under the car today and the muffler rust is very surface level----just reach out if you need any further details re. that
@Porschelover30 thank you for the inquiry! There are no leaks at all from what I've seen, no drops on the ground, etc. A PPI was done by a reputable service shop when I bought it in Oct. '21, and all issues were addressed at the time (IMS, clutch, RMS, spark plugs, oil change, engine and transmission mounts, etc.), and she runs perfectly. I've since added about 1,500 miles---she was "my weekend go to the gym car with the top down in sunny Florida" car.
Re. the suspension----I checked the 1st owners detailed receipts and I don't see that any suspension work was done. No records from the 2nd owner, and the 3rd owner did some work in his short ownership (new tires, brake pads, battery, starter, etc., and a receipt said the front suspension was checked and 'all is good'). But upon delivery, I noticed some suspension noises upon taking delivery and my shop put in new sway bar links and bushings, but he recommended new struts, as there is a sound when going over bumps. I was planning on new shocks/struts and lowering the car by 1" eventually. So front suspension work likely needed as the car is a '99 @ 71k miles.
Re. any scratches, you'll note the one on the right rear bumper in the photo, and the surface level one in the photo where I'm pointing at it. Some minor typical bumper scratches, but otherwise, paint is in excellent shape, the car appears to have been garaged, and I have garaged it.
I'll check the muffler later today and will report back on the rust on the muffler to be sure.
Overall, the car is in very good shape-----the issues are the small tears in the plastic roof window (unfortunate as the canvas top is in excellent shape and not faded), the potential suspension upgrades, the CD changer does not work, the keys are not programmed, and it needs the right rear deflector panel (about $100 on Pelican Parts) on the wheel well, as it's loose (see photo).
I can hold the car as long as you need it-----I'm not driving it, just starting it occasionally.
I can send any videos needed, etc., thanks!
Very nice car
@Donstar1 couple of questions.
Are there any leaks that you are aware of.
How is the suspension
Its a little hard with the reflections to see the major scratches greater than say one inch and down to metal. I see back right fender but is there anything else
Also given that this lived most of its life in the NE is the rust on the muffler surface or does it go deep into the metal such that it is weakened. Finally how long could you hold the car for the winner if said winner wanted to fly and drive
