Up for auction is this 1999 Porsche 986 Boxster finished in Guards Red over a black interior. This first-generation Boxster features a desirable 5-speed manual transmission, 18″ SportDesign wheels, and an upgraded Kenwood sound system.  It has reportedly been cared for by two prior owners and is said to have received an IMS bearing service as well as a replacement clutch.  Having resided on the West Coast up until 2015, this 986 Boxster is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida while showing just over 32k miles on the odometer.

This Boxster is finished in Guards Red with a black power-retractable soft top.  The car is said to have been garage-kept throughout its life and the seller reports very minimal signs of road-going wear, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. This example rides on a set of factory optional 18” SportDesign wheels dressed in Primewell tires.

Inside, you will find a black interior with creature comforts including automatic air conditioning, power front seats, and an upgraded Kenwood touchscreen stereo paired with the factory 6-speaker sound system.  All gauges and accessories are reported to be fully functional and the seller states that the original stereo will accompany the sale.

The Boxster model is celebrated for its mid-engine agility and this 1999 example is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.5L flat-six capable of producing over 200 HP.  The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual transmission which allows this Boxster to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in under 7 seconds.  The CARFAX report highlights services dating as far back as 2001, and the seller notes that the clutch was replaced within the last three years.  The IMS bearing is also said to have been previously addressed.

This sale will include an owner's manual, spare tire, and a clean title. Well presented and with just over 32k miles traveled from new, this 1999 Boxster makes an excellent choice for any driver in search of a Porsche 986.

@jbaumann83 I also looked up the IMS bearing retrofit, according to LN Engineering and the production date it should be replaced after 6 years which is now.

I was able to pull up the LnEngineering IMS Retrofit serial number #18537 on their website and the service was performed in 2015. It was done with a IMS Retrofit Dual Row that has a 6 year or 75,000 mile service interval.

@dgrobs This vehicle runs excellent. You would not have an issue driving at that distance. Other than being in a small vehicle for so many hours that would be your only issue. The car runs excellent.

One more question for the seller, in your walkaround video, is the frunk open? There is a good size space there between the frunk lid and the front bumper. is the frunk open in the video?

  • dgrobs (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

@Johnlphillips Understood. Appreciate the info. Looks like a great weekend driver. I got my wife a new 718 Boxster in Guards Red a couple years ago, and she turned it from a weekend driver to her daily driver from April to November every year. That's how much she loves the car.

If I bought it, is it in good enough condition as is to drive it to NJ from Fla, or does it need anything that you know of to make a trip like that? Thanks....

  • Johnlphillips (seller) 3 yearsago

@dgrobs When I purchased the vehicle, I knew the previous owner. He had said that he had bought it from a gentleman who he had thought was the original owner. I did not ever research it to see how many owners prior to purchase. I merely bought it to take it off his hands as he was no longer able to drive because of back issues. So, I stand corrected, yes it seems that it had several owners prior. I'm not a car guru and to be honest, don't know much about them I bought it for a weekend drive.

@jbaumann83 the LNengineering database can provide you this information. The serial number is on 33/50.

This is a great example of a very clean 986, can you tell me who did the IMS repair and what year it was done. Thank you.

  • dgrobs (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

BTW, very well kept car it seems.

  • dgrobs (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

Ad says 2 prior owners but Carfax is showing 6 previous owners.
Looks like 4 to 5 owners between 2012 and 2016/17.
Am I reading the Carfax wrong?
Which is correct seller? Are you the 3rd owner or the 7th owner? Makes a pretty big difference in a 3 pedal car. Thanks for any info you could provide concerning this.

  • dgrobs (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

@Johnlphillips Thanks. I'm watching this one....

  • Johnlphillips (seller) 3 yearsago

@bhaupert I have attached a photo which shows the label on the inside of the drivers door. You can pull it up by the label.

  • Johnlphillips (seller) 3 yearsago

@dgrobs yes. See photo inside drivers door. Shows label

    IMS retrofit done?

  • bhaupert (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

    Tire dates, please. Thanks.

  • bhaupert (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

What kind of IMS fix was used? Thanks.

  • Johnlphillips (seller) 3 yearsago

@rappelquist sure thing. I will get them uploaded later this afternoon when I’m back at home.

  • rappelquist 3 yearsago

Could you provide any underbody shots? Thanks, Rick A

  • Johnlphillips (seller) 3 yearsago

I’m sad to have to let this beauty go. Unfortunately I downsized in my home and no longer have the garage space for it. I can assure anyone who purchases this vehicle will enjoy it to its fullest.
