Powered by a 3.4-liter flat-six paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, this 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera Coupe is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black interior. It has been tastefully modified with tartan cloth seat upholstery, a MOMO steering wheel, a rear ducktail spoiler, 18” Fuchs wheels, a Softronic ECU tune, and more. Originally delivered in Manhattan Beach, California, this example was later sold as a certified pre-owned vehicle in Houston, Texas, before being acquired by its current and fourth owner in South Carolina. This Carrera Coupe is now being offered for auction.

Finished in Arctic Silver Metallic, this example features a Design 911 ducktail rear spoiler, Zunsport front grille protection, and 18” Fuchs wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires mounted in 2024. Additional equipment includes a speed-activated rear spoiler, dual exhaust outlets, an electric sunroof, front fog lights, and Porsche-branded brake calipers. The seller notes that both doors were repainted under previous ownership, reportedly due to parking lot dings, resulting in slight shading differences. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The black interior features heated and power-adjustable front seats with driver’s seat memory functions, power windows, a central locking system, cruise control, and the HiFi Sound Package. Modifications include tartan cloth seat upholstery by the specialists at The Bucket Stitch of Greenville, South Carolina, along with a MOMO steering wheel and a center console-delete.

A replacement 3.4-liter flat-six M96 engine was installed at 42k miles by Eurocar-Werk of Houston, Texas. The rear wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission while stopping power is provided by fixed 4-piston brakes with cross-drilled rotors at each corner. The seller adds that, in addition to the services listed below, two services were carried out in 2024 as shown in the gallery.

  • 2007 – LOF (Lube, Oil, and Filter change)
  • 2008 – Left and right headlights
  • Annual LOFs (Lube, Oil, and Filter changes)
  • 2009 – Engine deck lid struts, horn retainer frame
  • 2010 – Rear brakes, door locks, shifter cable, coolant service, A/C compressor
  • 2012 – Turn signals, front hood shocks, rear spoiler curtain
  • 2014 – Receiver dryer, LOF, sway bars
  • 2016 – New tires
  • 2017 – Front brakes, A/C charge
  • 2018 – Left seat belt buckle, left door lock switch assembly, headlight switch
  • May 2021 – Major service: Plugs, air filter, drive belt, fuel injector – upper intake and valve cleaning, and LOF

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a spare tire, and a Softronic programmer.

The seller would like you to know: “I did not buy the car to resell it. I have 3 other P-cars that I drive and care for - in the case of the 996 it is a blast to drive but I changed directions and my loss is your gain as the energy, money, parts and labor put into creating a nice car is not recoverable - but is best described as the price to play.  To help my wife understand this I call it "tuition" - the cost of my education (she is hoping I get my degree in Porschenomics pretty soon!)

When you buy it - You can fly into Greenville GSP airport- Uber to us as we are 35 miles away and then you can go drive it on the Tail of the Dragon.  I have a cabin on the lake so if you want to spend the first night of the trip here, you can be my guest.   Finally, you should know that I own a powersports & marine dealership - But I am not a Porsche mechanic - I pay for the services to be professionally done by area experts.  I am but a Porsche enthusiast.

The 996 story: I acquired this 996 in December of 2023.  For reference, I am a Powersports & Marine Dealer, a 25-year PCA club member, and the current owner of several Porsches.  As a Porsche enthusiast, I attended a 996 engine class in California taught by Tony Callas and an M96 engine building class taught by Jake Raby in Cleveland, Georgia.  I have owned five 996s, having found them interesting long before they were considered cool; a favorite one was a 2001 that I had Karl Troy of European Road & Racing rebuild for me.  Today’s car was manufactured in May of 1998 and spent it entire life in California and Texas.  It was the early build date coupled to the base equipment of the car that intrigued me – so I bought it.

The car was originally sold in Manhattan Beach, California, on 9/02/98, then resold as a certified pre-owned car in Houston on 12/29/2003.  Then, the 996 was traded and acquired by a gentleman in Houston, TX, by who we'll call Mr. M; he bought it from BMW of Houston in August of 2006.  From what I have been told, it was his daily driver.   The records were not with the car as Mr. M donated the car to the Houston Public Television charity prior to moving to Tennessee.  I did contact the previous owner and was given permission to get the records.  However, the service manager at EuroCar Werk, Jose Preza, would only review it over the phone. While I was unable to get EuroCar Werk to fax the records to me – they allowed me to transcribe the information as they read the file to me.  During Miilton’s 16-year ownership, he did an extensive amount of work at ECW, where I have come to learn has an excellent reputation for Euro car care.  Not long after Mr. M acquired the car from BMW, it had an engine problem – the warranty bought a new Porsche engine, and EuroCar Werk installed it.  So the current engine - #M96/01AT66X67060 has roughly 34k miles on it. Upon receiving the car, I took it to our local import service center, where Brian Gibbs (Randy’s Automotive) did a post-purchase inspection & servicing for me – see invoice 14483.   Having received a good report from Brian I decided to begin my project – a minor retro modification to give the car a different look and feel. So, I ordered a set of 18” Porsche Fuchs wheels w spacers and Michelin tires from Suncoast ($6k+) to go with its Bilstein suspension.  Then a Ducktail spoiler from Design911 w 3rd brake light delete and spoiler screens, a Schnell short shift kit, an updated horn kit, Side Porsche decals, rubber floor mats, GT3 carbon fiber console delete kit, a Momo Prototipo steering wheel, red speedometer face, front & rear strut braces,  brushed aluminum pedals and shift knob, trunk lid protector, LED light kit, then I commissioned “Bucket Stitch” of Greenville to fabricate a new interior, then I added little stuff like blue tooth and Rennline phone holder and smoked side markers, Zune front grill inserts, BMC air filter, silicone intake, Fister exhaust and Softronics performance software.  While I had the Ducktail painted, I opted to have the front bumper cover resprayed as well.  After all of this work was completed, I treated the car to a full servicing by Porsche of Greenville classic specialist, a 30-year veteran that works on their clients’ old cars. I opted for the Porsche dealership servicing to continue with the car’s pedigree of good care:  the dealership service repair order amount was:  $5,337.98.  After all this, I must say that the 996 is fun to look at and even more fun to drive.  While it is not a show car – it is a fun car to show!”

As a side note: I have sold 2 other porsches on Pcarmarket, 997 targa and a 991 convertible, and interestingly enough both were bought by dealers --- Grand Prix and a NE Porsche dealer. Working towards my Porschenomics degree!

BTW - I bought a separate stock rear wing to disassemble and used the fan and wiring from that purchase to build the Design 911 ducktail - the original is intact.

Some Porsche enthusiasts like the early 996s - this one was built in May of 1998 and has a physical throttle cable.

@BoxsterGT I think we went with 7mm spacers to bring them out slightly. In my opinion there is nothing sexier than Fuchs (on a car that is)

@Wolverines996 The original wheels and rear spoiler are included with the sale. The seats are the originals re-upholstered. The center console cassette stack comes as well.

@Peabo I had the ppi done when I purchased it then the servicing done at Porsche of Greenville - I was comfortable with their insights and recommendations but I do like Lake Speed Jr's oil system. If I had thought about it...

Please explain the 18in Fuchs wheels and their fitment on a 996. Rather unusual, but look great.
