Finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a Black leather interior, this 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera features a 6-speed manual transmission mated to its 3.4-liter flat-six engine. It also features 19” Sport Techno wheels, an electric sunroof, and an aftermarket Alpine head unit with Focal speakers and a custom subwoofer. This Carrera is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California while showing less than 185k miles on the odometer.

This 996 is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic. Standard equipment includes a speed-activated rear spoiler, dual exhaust outlets, an electric sunroof, front fog lights, and Porsche-branded brake calipers mounted behind 19” Sport Techno wheels wrapped in Continental ExtremeSport tires showing date codes from 2016-2021. The seller reports to have added wheel spacers for a wider stance and notes a couple of very small dents and paint chips. The CARFAX report lists structural damage occurring in March of 2006, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings.

Inside, this 996 features Black leather upholstery with matching floor mats. Equipment includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an onboard computer, cruise control, automatic climate control, and a CD changer. The seller notes stress cracking present on the driver’s seat, one fin missing from the driver’s side air duct, and the installation of an Alpine stereo, amplifier, a custom subwoofer, Focal speakers, and a Valentine radar detector mount. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are said to function as intended, apart from the powered passenger mirror operation and the fiber optic cable connector, with no warning lights present.

Powered by a naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six engine, the 996 Carrera sends up to 296 HP and 258 lb.-ft. of torque to its rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission, while brakes consist of 4-piston calipers and cross-drilled rotors at each corner. The seller reports that the engine was rebuilt at 160,623 miles with a 997 crank with updated smog (2002) and an IPD Plenum. The IMS bearing and rear main seal were replaced, along with a new water pump, water reservoir, valve springs, timing chain, and more. The transmission is said to have been replaced by Porsche at 67k miles. Additional recent maintenance includes new control arms, H&R lowering springs, Bilstein shocks, an upgraded rear sway bar, new fender liners, a new air guide, mudflaps, and new front brake rotors and pads. The seller reports that European Motorsports recently inspected the car.

This sale will include wheel locks, a Valentine One radar holder, a window shade, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This car has always been garaged, the gaskets are in good shape and has only been in the rain a couple of times. It’s been taken care of and is a blast to drive. I am older and wanted something more refined. Just replaced the front rotors and pads. The shop specializes in Porsche for over 40 years. I told them I was selling the car and to go over it while they worked on it. They said it is in good shape and drives nice.”

That was on the stereo for playing cd/dvd. The radio works and is fine using blue tooth.

Hey @seller! Quick question based off a line in the description. In the description, there is a line about a “fiber optic cable connector, with no warning lights present.” Could you clarify what this means? Does this refer to the OBD II port/cable?

Looks like it was in Ohio for the first 4 years of it's life. No real records from 1998 through 2002 on the Carfax.

  • Gregrjohnson (seller) 3 weeks, 5 daysago

@Chongo I Bearing was replaced. To my knowledge the car has never been back East. It’s a Southern California car

  • Chongo (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 5 daysago

Has the I m s bearing been replacearth. Looking at the undercarriage, have a concern with all the rust. Was this car from back east or the midwest

The car was built in 98 and sold in 99 with a 3.4 motor and cable throttle. We put a 997 crank/rods that was in the 3.6 997. The block is the same for both models. This increases the stoke thus more torque. Not sure what sketchy here

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

Seller some of the information here is sketchy. The 996.1, with cars manufactured in 1997 to 2001 has a 3.4 liter engine. The only cable throttles are the early Carrera 2, 1999
And before. I have a 3/98 Carrera 2 and I definitely know a ton about these cars. If he is still there Alex at
9xx motors can probably straighten up the story on this car.

I should have also said the piston rings were replaced

  • Gregrjohnson (seller) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

The pistons were not replaced and cylinders not resleeved. There were no signs they needed to be done

  • gwistrup 3 weeks, 6 daysago

After looking at the receipts for the engine work, the description of work is a little vague. I don't see any parts for pistons or piston rings. Were they not replaced? Were the cylinders sleeved or replated?

This car is a is a garage queen. If you don’t know what you’re looking at you would think it’s new. Almost everything has been upgraded, replaced or rebuilt. Any of the reported damages can not be found as I have driven for 17 yrs and taking it to different shops including Porsche no one has ever said anything with doing all the upgrades. This is a solid well taken care Porsche. Two people have looked at it and driven it. Both left with big smiles

  • faugrad (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

Very high mileage and structural damage reported. This won't be a garage queen, you can drive the wheels off of this without worries. Love it and will be watching.

  • Gregrjohnson (seller) 4 weeksago

It is a 3.6 with the upgraded crankshaft and rods (Porsche used the same block in the 997 and 996) with the IPD intake the car has lots of torque and extra HP. I have never dyno the car but I think it puts out around 330-340 hp. It’s a sleeper for a 996. Fun to drive

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 4 weeksago

What is the size of the engine? I believe you use a different crank to bore the engine past 3.6 litters. This engine maybe a 3.8. Thanks

@ebehne I should have included in my comment why my brother-in-law didn’t buy the car back is he died in a bike accident about 6 years ago up by Lake Tahoe

  • Gregrjohnson (seller) 1 monthago

@ebehne This might sound weird but when I bought the car I was with my brother-in-law who had a shop rebuilding Porsches. The car seemed in good shape and he said if I didn’t like the car he would buy I back at current market value. We never ran a report on the car so I don’t have any details on past damage. I have lots of receipts after 17 years owning the car. What I have done is up loaded the big ticket items that have been done. The first is after I bought the car and I had the whole car got through. I fixed everything that was wrong with it. There was no discussion of damage from an accident so I am thinking it was a fender bender and nothing major. The receipt is there for the engine rebuild and the most current one for the brakes. Hope I answered your questions. If not let me know
