Unveiled in 1999, the Porsche's 996 generation marked a significant evolution by adopting a water-cooled flat-six engine. This 1999 Carrera Coupe comes finished in Artic Silver Metallic over Black and pairs a 6-speed manual transmission with its 3.4-liter flat-six engine. It features power-operated and heated front seats, Litronic headlights, traction control, an onboard computer, a Hi-Fi audio system, an electric sunroof, and more. Showing just over 50k miles on the odometer, this 996 is now being offered for auction out of Pennsylvania.
This 996 Carrera comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and rides on upgraded factory 18” Turbo-look wheels wrapped in new Sumitomo HTR Z5 tires. Equipment includes a speed-activated rear spoiler, dual exhaust outlets, and optional Litronic headlights. The seller notes a few minor nicks and signs of road-going wear. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The Black interior showcases heated and power-operated seats in optional supple leather upholstery. Additional features include an onboard computer, a Hi-Fi audio system, a central locking system, automatic climate control, and an electric sunroof. The seller notes the soft-touch material on some plastic trim pieces has degraded and all gauges, electronics, and accessories are working properly.
Power is derived from a 3.4-liter flat-six engine, delivering up to 296 HP and 285 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. A new OEM Porsche engine was installed under warranty in 2008 at approximately 30,150 miles following a cracked cylinder that caused engine failure. The CARFAX report shows 21 service history records, and the seller notes the car underwent a series of services in November 2023 including a Liqui Moly oil and filter change, a brake fluid flush, and the installation of new front brake pads, rotors, and sensors. Both front window regulators have also been replaced along with new ignition coils, spark plugs, and front struts.
The sale will include a clean title, three keys, owner’s manuals, a window sticker, a toolkit, a spare tire, sales literature, and service documentation.
The seller would like you to know: “This 911 is closer to a collector-grade example than not but it can continue to be enjoyed given the 50k on the chassis and even lower mileage on the engine. It does everything it is supposed to do and with such timeless looks and curves, this 996 will continue to age better with time. This is the same spec car that crashed through the window at the beginning of the Gone in 60 Seconds opening scene. Since that movie came out 996.1 C2 was the car that put Porsches on the map for me. I am excited to bring this prime and honest example to the market and hope that it finds a nice home and caretaker.”

I have a 1999 triple black coupe that I have owned for nine years with 72,000. Miles. I purchased it in Cosa Mesa from the previous owner. There were only two owners prior to me. The manual six speed transmission and the manual cable throttle make this 911 a hidden gem. Most people have no idea what a wonderful sports car this is. I have had no need to replace the IMS, that is an overblown issue driven by the manufacturers of the aftermarket IMS manufacturers. The people who are “ in the know” about this issue like my tech who races Porsche’s, has monitored my IMS for nine years and he states there is absolutely no reason to change my IMS bearing, it performing perfectly. I have discussed this with several other Porsche technicians and they say the same thing.
My 996 is a European model, upgraded with LED taillights, parking lights, bi Zeon headlights, I upgraded my wheels to the turbo style wheels. I was thinking of selling this Porsche but my wife loves it so much she will not let me. The more I drive this Porsche the more I enjoy and appreciate it.
Whoever purchases this 996 will absolutely love it. Good luck in bidding!
Thx PAEuros, yes, well versed in the IMS travails as the owner of a '99 Boxer/original dual row still in the vehicle. Makes sense Porsche would likely, by '08, be done with long blocks from the single row era ('00 - '04) and be using the latest version. Appreciate the response.

@mbelliss1
Thank you. In regards to your concern about the IMS. According to LN Engineering and the Eisen Class Action lawsuit filed against Porsche. Any 97-05 Porsche 996/996 M96/97 engines can potentially suffer IMS failure. However, the most affected years are 00-05 M96/97 Single row IMS bearings. Furthermore the 1999 Porsche 911 996.1 is fitted with a Dual Row IMS Bearing and has a failure rate of less than 1%.
With all that being said, I have found literature stating that "If your engine was replaced in or after model year 2006, it will have the larger non-serviceable bearing even if that bearing wasn't original to your model year. Replacement engines from Porsche utilized whatever was the most current IMS bearing in the year the engine was built."
The engine in the 911 in this auction should be equipped with the larger non-serviceable IMS. In newer Porsche 911 models with larger, non-serviceable 06-08 IMS bearing, the grease seal should be removed to extend the life of the original bearing.
Very nice car. Seller, and other enthusiasts, which IMS do you suppose would be in a 2008 long block replacement?

Hello All.
To reference back to @catdog2 ‘s comment.
I have uploaded a pic of the coveted manual throttle cable style throttle body to clear up any questions.

Stupid autocorrect I meant @luiz.seneriz
Thanks @luis.demerit thank you for the helpful advice. I fell in love with a 2000 996.1 I was stupid enough to sell when Covid struck and I rushed to downsize. Loved the engine and response and realized the earlier cable throttled car would be even sweeter....
Bid in the amount of $20,750
@catdog2. The EcU (computer) on the cable throttle cars is quite a bit different than the drive by wire cars. As the seller states the dealership just got a new long block and switched the other parts from the failed engine. This could be a great car. I have a 3/98 built with 105k mikes on it. Actually I drove it almost 200 miles Saturday. This is by far the best most analog watercooled porsche driving experience there is. You can check me out I bought a triple black turbo here April last year. Yes I still own the turbo and have driven it a lot. I have both cars because I enjoy driving and both cars are night and day, but the driving experience on the cable throttle 99 is so good that I decided not to sell it after I got the turbo. If you check the prices on the 99s that are for sale at car dealerships you’ll see that the demand desire for these cars have continued to grow. If you have never driven a 99 you must so you can understand what it is all about. I would personally would be more aggressive bidding on this car but I already have mine and other than a new paint job is all sorted out and I know it inside out. GLWTS
@catdog2 Yes the engine that was installed to my knowledge was a Long block. Meaning it was a complete engine valve covers to oil pan. Typically in a dealership setting on older models the "complete" engine wouldn't come dressed with any manifolds or accessories. All the equipment on the engine in this 911 is OEM factory as it came from new.
I hope that answers your question. I can snap some pics of the TB configuration tomorrow to be certain.

When engine was replaced, was it with a 1999 spec engine with cable-operated throttle or with a newer variant?

@luis.seneriz That image was submitted with the paint meter readings and should be live now.
@Wabear I believe the paint to be all original. Paint meter readings are loaded now.
Please let us see a picture of the production date. Sticker is normally on the drivers door sil.
Bid in the amount of $1,996
Most bang for buck 911 in my opinion. Have owned 4 996 models, still own one. For some reason I prefer the 1999 (first generation). With no reserve, this could be a FANTASTIC buy, especially for the holidays :)
Do you have any paperwork on the engine replacement that was done in 2008?
How’s the paint. Mostly original?
The car that crashed through the window in gone in 60 seconds was actually a modified older Porsche, that had new body work done to make it look like a 996.it was actually a modified 1978 911 SC
