Now available for auction at no-reserve is this 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera Coupe finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black leather interior. This 6 speed 1999 example received a full engine rebuild including upgraded Nikasil liners, a new IMS bearing, EvoMS high-flow intake, and a BBi underdrive pulley in addition to a torque biased limited-slip differential, Ohlins coilovers, Elephant Racing adjustable top mounts, Tarett adjustable drop links, a Gundo muffler modification, and several other service items. Now showing approximately 195k miles on the odometer, this Carrera is being offered for auction by its owner out of Connecticut.
This 996 comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic with factory bi-xenon headlights, aftermarket LED taillights, and red-painted brake calipers. The 18" Turbo-look wheels come fitted with colored Porche crest center caps and a set of Vercelli Strada II all-season tires. The rear window seal, hood shocks, hood latch, and weather seal have been replaced and the seller reports some scratches throughout the body as well as rock chips on the hood and front bumper. Imperfections are depicted in the gallery along with a CARFAX report showing minor rear-end damage in 2018.
The black interior includes textured trim throughout the dashboard, a silver-painted center console, and a custom Alcantara-wrapped factory steering wheel. Other additions include a grey Alcantara shift boot and a Ben Auto Design ball-bearing short shifter kit. Wear is present on the seating surfaces and the seller reports the radio volume button is inoperable, and the turn signal stalk does not return to position automatically. The original factory specifications label includes the following equipment codes:
This first-generation 996 Carrera is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.4L flat-six engine rated at 296 HP and 258 lb.-ft of torque stock. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual transmission and a torque-biased aftermarket limited-slip differential. The engine is said to have been completely rebuilt approximately 30k miles ago with upgraded Nikasil liners, a new IMS bearing, a BBi underdrive pulley, new motor and transmission mounts, a spin-on oil filter adapter with a magnetic drain plug, a new coolant expansion tank, a new updated blue coolant cap, new catalytic converters, and a Gundo muffler modification. The suspension has also been modified with Ohlins adjustable coilovers, Elephant Racing top mounts, Tarett adjustable drop links, and new wheel bearings all installed by BBi Motorsport of Huntington Beach, California. The seller reports a small oil leak coming from the rear main seal, which had been replaced at the time of the engine rebuild.
This sale will include the original owner's manual, toolkit, and a Connecticut Transferable Registration. Optimized for performance and rejuvenated with a full engine rebuild, this 1999 Carrera makes an ideal driver's car.

I spent 20k at BBi alone with maintenance and the suspension setup. This is a great car someone is getting. Has all the things that provide for a great 911 analog driving experience.
Thx

@MoeMonney Darn right that is the best non-factory Alcantara steering wheel work I've ever seen. Can you post more information about this vendor? I can send business his way, thanks
@J4177 it’s an OBX LSD with upgraded bolts and washers. It’s works very well.
@bmdaia the steering wheel was done by a seller who hand stitched them and sells them online sometimes on eBay or the Porsche forums. It’s very well done and just the right thickness. I was lucky enough to get it when he had a 4 spoke wheel for sale since he doesn’t do many of them.
@68912Porsche Thanks. It drives amazingly well and it’s all there. Maintenance is done regularly. The car is going to make someone very happy.
@MoeMonney , I definitely understand how a no reserve auction works. I have been shopping for a 996 for a while now, and I was just exploring logistics on getting a ppi done remotely. If I had a ppi done on every car I bid on I would pretty quickly be out of the market. I was merely attempting to ascertain your flexibility in the unlikely event something was found that would cause a person to reconsider the purchase. Your answers are very clear .thx for your time.
Who did the Alcantara steering wheel, that is one of the nicest I've seen??
Great early build here GLWA

What brand is the LSD? Thanks
@68912Porsche common practice is to perform the PPi before bidding. Definitely not fair to seller and other participants to back out after “winning”
@68912Porsche it’s a No Reserve auction. The car must be sold to the highest bidder and payment must be made. That’s why a no reserve auction was done.
@RPSA2 yes it’s an EPS IMS bearing. I don’t know if warranty applies but it’s supposed to last the life of the engine. Friendsgreenporsche uses the same one in the UK.
To be clear, the IMS that is currently in the car is an EPS bearing that is six years old, and has 30,000 miles on it? Is it out of warranty at this point?
It also has a EPS clutch with longer life than the original one. Feels factory smooth with longer life. Picture of the clutch is on the listing.
@davidleica the car had a factory warranty engine replacement in 2002 that was common on these cars. The engine was rebuilt in 2016 due to a cracked cylinder 1 sleeve. The engine was resleeved with Nikasil liners. All new chains, pads, lifters, rings, bolts, heads rebuilt with valve job. Crank polished. Spin on oil filter, new oil pump. Upgraded oil piston to the newer version. New eps ims bearing. New catalytic converters. The oil leak is small. It leaves a a small drop after days. BBi told me to drive the car. They said I could drive it without a problem but it would be good to fix the oil leak eventually which I was planning on doing but I bought a 996 turbo hence why I’m selling my 996 carrera. Car also comes with a brand new “Carrera” script for the back.
@68912Porsche 30k miles since 2016 since the engine rebuild was done.

Question: if I was to win the auction and we agreed on the price, would it be possible to have ppi done at a reputable shop in your vicinity, at my expense, prior to actual purchase?
Sorry, trying to get clear. Engine was replaced in 02 and then that was rebuilt 30k miles ago? And that is when the photos were taken? How long ago was the rebuild? 30k could be a year or a decade. Thx. Interested
Hey @MoeMoney - Thanks for your insight and transparency! A few questions…
Can you dive a little deeper into the small oil leak from the rear main seal? How bad is it currently? Hows is the clutch and has it been replaced or upgraded ever? Any insight or additional details on the replacement of the engine back in 2002 that's on the Carfax?
Meant @MoeMonney
@MowMonney thanks for the update! GLWA
@J4177 I’ve sent pcarmarket the invoice picture. They should post them soon.
@RPSA2 yea I didn’t have the seatbelt on for that short drive. Airbag light is from changing the steering wheel but it was erased. It has all the airbags and they are fine. The interior in general looks great except the drivers seat. That’s worn. I would probably change it or redo the seats. Yet the car was such a pleasure to drive despite that. The Ohlins suspension setup and whole new suspension parts that BBi did made a huge difference. The car handles and feels like new. Even better with the modern Ohlins coilovers.
@J4177 the engine rebuild was performed by century auto. It’s a friends shop. He has rebuilt several m96 engines. We did all the preventative maintenance upgrades we could including nikasil liners and it has been running strong for 30k miles and daily driven. We bought the vertex rebuild kit. I’m uploading the pictures of the invoices. There was a scrape on the rear bumper cause by slightly rubbing a wall . Instead of repainting the bumper it was replaced with a nice undamaged factory painted rear bumper. The front pumper was also replaced with a factory painted bumper. The emissions failure was because of an evap sensor code that was fixed immediately and the evap system Checked and a new gas cap put on. It passed emissions soon after that without an issue. The car drives very well it does have its things that it needs to be perfect but it was always a drivers car that was well maintained and used. I had the car in Los Angeles, Mexico City, Vail colorido and finally New England this year. I took it on a road trip across the US with the new suspension. The oil is changed every 3k miles. There’s a thread on rennlist that shows my whole journey with it. Here. You’re getting a var with a rebuilt engine with an amazing suspension setup. Whatever small things it needs fixing are not big. In the last ppi all the things it needed were easily solvable. But, for those who want to enjoy the car and dive it immediately it can be used that way. Just being transparent as to what the car is.
Hi any info on whom performed the engine rebuild? Any insight into the lapse of Carfax info between the accident in 2018 in California at 160k mile to the failed emissions inspection in Connecticut in 2021 at 192k miles? These images of the open engine must have come from somewhere. Thanks, Joe
What's up with the SRS and Seat Belt warning lights? The usual 996 buckle wiring issue?
@68912Porsche hello. Just the pictures and the invoices for the kit bought from vertex. I’ll add them here now.
Is there documentation of the rebuild other than the photos?
Bid in the amount of $10,000
