Offered for auction is this 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera 4 Coupe finished in Cobalt Blue Metallic. This all-wheel-drive 996 came factory equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, the Power Seat Package, a premium metallic paint color, and a Graphite Grey leather interior with optional supple leather seats.  The car also was also ordered with several factory exclusive details including the Aluminum/Chrome Package and 18” Sport Design wheels. The car had been under the care of a doctor in South Carolina from new up until earlier in 2021 and is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Georgia showing approximately 65k miles on the odometer.

A classic Porsche color debuted in the early 1990s, this coupe was ordered in Cobalt Blue Metallic at an additional sticker cost of over $3k. It can be distinguished as a Carrera 4 by its silver-colored brake calipers and rear model designation.  Exclusive stainless-steel tailpipes are included with the Aluminum/Chrome Package. The optional 18” SportDesign wheels come fitted with colored Porsche crest center caps and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires from 2016. The owner suspects the front end to have been previously refinished for cosmetic purposes and notes several minor imperfections throughout the exterior, additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The Graphite Grey interior includes optional leather upholstery and supple leather seats along with a three-spoke leather steering wheel. The Aluminum/Chrome Package also adds aluminum-look instrument dials as well as aluminum inlays for the shifter and brake handle. Other options include the Power Seat Package, Litronic Bi-Xenon headlamps, a rear window wiper, an onboard computer, and the Hi-Fi Sound Package.

A 3.4L flat-six engine sends up to 296 HP and 258 lb.-ft of torque to all four wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. Fixed 4-piston alloy brake calipers and perforated discs come standard along with Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and Automatic Braking Differential (ABD).  The CARFAX report shows the vehicle to have been maintained by Baker Motor Company of Charleston from 2000 to 2016 and the previous owner is said to have spared no expense on proper routine service.  The most recent recorded service includes the replacement of the spark plugs and ignition coils earlier in 2021.

This sale will include the original window sticker and a clean title.

    Ok guys this is way too cheap. Since I may have found a good storage location for my 3/98 coupe. If the price is right I’ll buy this one too. I bought an 03 TT last week here also. These 996s are awesome, cobalt is my favorite color, shame I couldn’t get the turbo in blue.

    @Indyfan911 Yeah, it is definitely right of center. I thought maybe the 4 was added later but even the Carrera by itself is slightly right. Easily corrected but does warrant the question of what/why.

    @ricky_recaro Good question on the BMW I have no idea what Pcarmarket is doing. I sent 14 photos of the undercarriage to them last Friday and they still haven’t posted. I think they are a victim of their own success. Way too busy

    @Indyfan911 No paint work has been done on my watch can’t speak for previous owner.

    I was wondering about the Carrera 4 script, also. In photo #10 it looks as if the C is lifting off of the decklid. Can you confirm please? Thanks.

  • ricky_recaro (registered bidder) 2 years, 7 monthsago

    I am curious, was the rear deck ever repainted because the Carrera 4 emblem seems to be placed very far right of center. I also don't understand the BMW pics, did I miss something in the text?

    @rhart Thank you.

  • rhart (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

    @kevintho911 I took 14 photos of the undercarriage and sent them to Pcar. If they don't get them up contact me and I'll email them to you.
    Cheers

    @rhart Great, thank you for your comment and for your effort getting photos.

    @kevintho911 Kev
    I don't have a lift but I'll try to floor jack it up enough to get some shots and will post them later. I can tell you everything is very very dry.

    @robmsales Hi again Rob. I forgot to answer your question about cutting the filter open. At the first oil change I did just that. It was clean. I know I bought a magnetic oil plug but to be honest I can't remember if this was the car I put it in. I have a few 911's and can't remember for sure.

    When I purchased the car I went to Porsche Charleston and asked for maintenance history which of course they refused. They only said the Dr was fanatic about maintenance. The 1999 is different than later 996's in that it came with a dual row IMS bearing that year, before Porsche cheapened it up with single row the following year. The single row was notorious for being weaker than the dual row. So I don't know if IMS or RMS was replaced. Typically if a car is north of 30 or 40K miles it is out of the woods IMS wise anyway. Car has zero leakage. Not even the slightest seepage underneath.

  • Wogboy 2 years, 8 monthsago

    @Wogboy i answered my own question... C2's had black calipers... C4's had silver...

  • robmsales (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

    Hi, I like Cobalt Blue paint- I had a 1962 Corvette when I was in high school- work three jobs to paint that Vette Cobalt Blue.
    Just asking about the IMS and rear seal if they have been addressed or not- if not, has the shop cut open the oil filter to spot check for any metal? Where you showed the car in the Utube videos, does it leak any oil? I can't believe it would end with that garage, if you want to call it a garage- great looking 996-Thanks for your time and help, Rob.

  • kevintho911 (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

    Very attractive 996. Could you please post some photos of the underside showing the prominent points of interest, (e.g. suspension, control arms, drive linkage, trans-axle, engine, exhaust, etc.)?
    Thanks very much!

    @Mongoosedoc The car was ordered in the South and didn't get heated seats. For $80-90 there are thin films that can be placed under the leather seat and seat back cushions that hook easily into car wiring. I had these in a car two years ago and they worked like a champ.

    @luis.seneriz Luis the car is 100% stock. Both in and out. Pcar for some reason did not post up the videos. Hopefully they will go up today. Thanks for comment.
