Finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over black interior upholstery, this 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera Coupe pairs a 6-speed manual transmission with its naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six. It has been modified with safari-style appointments including custom crash bars, Hella auxiliary lighting, a suspension lift, Flatout Racing coilovers, 17” Method 701 wheels with a stud conversion, a Momo steering wheel, and more. Major service performed in 2022 included the installation of an upgraded IMS bearing, a new clutch, starter, camshaft solenoid, drive belt, and spark plugs. Showing approximately 85k miles on the odometer, this custom 996 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Arizona.
This Carrera Coupe is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic (L92U). Factory features consist of dual exhaust outlets, black-painted brake calipers, a sunroof, and a speed-activated rear spoiler. Safari-style modifications include front and rear custom crash bars, a suspension lift, Hella auxiliary driving lights, and 17” Method 701 wheels with a stud conversion and staggered-width spacers. Additional details include smoked side marker lenses, “PORSCHE” side script decals, and a carbon fiber-style vinyl roof wrap. A collection of images is provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report noting minor damage in January 2019, reportedly affecting the front bumper under prior ownership.
The black interior features 8-way power-adjustable front seats, driver’s seat position memory, leather seat upholstery, and a Becker-Porsche CDR-210 radio. An Alcantara-wrapped Momo steering wheel with a yellow 12 o’clock marker has been installed, and the center console has been removed. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are confirmed to be in proper working order, although the airbag warning is illuminated due to the replacement steering wheel.
A naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six engine produces up to 296 HP and 258 lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a replacement 6-speed manual transaxle. The seller states that the previous owner installed an X51 oil pan, while the right engine mount, air mass meter, and blower fan were replaced in 2020. In 2022, the transaxle and DME unit were repaired, and the IMS bearing, clutch, starter, camshaft solenoid, drive belt, spark plugs, and spark plug tube seals were replaced. Since the seller’s acquisition in February 2025, Safari-style modifications have been added, including Flatout Racing GR Plus coilovers, Elephant Racing drop links, and rear subframe spacers.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “I built this 996 Safari to handle the southern Arizona gravel roads, but it's equally at home in the city. Clean 996 lines, excellent AC, major mechanical concerns addressed, ready to enjoy - your next adventure or your local cars & coffee.”

Hi everyone—thanks for following along with my Safari build!
The goal was to create a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive 996 C2 that stays true to the spirit of classic air-cooled Safari builds, especially the SC variants that inspired so many off-pavement adventures. I chose a 1999 “cable throttle” car for its analog, connected feel—the last of that truly mechanical era.
This build has just the right touches to make it capable, fun, and reliable on fire roads and gravel trails. Simplicity and restraint guided the choices throughout.
The A/C blows ice cold (a blessing here in Phoenix), and it’s been an absolute blast to drive. I hope the next owner enjoys it—and isn’t afraid to get it dirty and put real miles on it.
Feel free to reach out with any questions.
