Inspired by the classic Indian Chief bike of the 1940s, the Kawasaki VN1500 Vulcan Drifter is a fuel-injected, shaft-driven cruiser powered by a liquid-cooled 1,470cc V-twin engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission featuring an automatic neutral finder. This launch-year example is finished in Deep Gooseberry paint with red pinstripes and features 16” wire-spoke wheels, a chrome two-into-one exhaust system, disc brakes, two-up seating, rider footboards, a windshield, and more. Purchased by the seller over 10 years ago, this Kawasaki Drifter is now being offered for auction out of Maryland with under 17k miles showing on the odometer.
Created in collaboration between Kawasaki and Done Emde, son of Indian legend Floyd Emde, the Drifter is intended as an homage to the 1948 Indian Chief with swooping retro bodywork. This 1999 example is finished in Deep Gooseberry over a black frame and features red pinstripes, custom-painted tank graphics, a black two-up seat, a clear windshield, rider footboards, a chrome exhaust, dual mirrors, and black leather saddlebags. The bike rides on 16” wire-spoke wheels dressed in older tires.
This Kawasaki derives up to 64 HP and 83 lb.-ft of torque from a four-stroke liquid-cooled 1,470cc V-Twin SOHC engine with digital fuel injection and dual 36mm throttle bodies. An enclosed driveshaft sends power to the rear wheel from a 5-speed manual transmission with an automatic neutral finder. The bike comes standard with front and rear disc brakes, a 41m front cartridge fork, and dual air-assisted rear shock absorbers with 4-way rebound damping adjustment. The seller indicates the oil and filter were recently changed.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. I have owned this motorcycle for over 10 years and has been a pleasure to ride and own. The bike has a beautiful vintage look and rides like a modern motorcycle.”

Sold for $2,000
This Kawasaki is sacriligous; a Japanese Indian. We own a 1947 Indian Chief; it is a superb bike; but that left hand throttle, right hand shift, and left foot clutch takes some getting used to... (lol)
