The E36/7 BMW M Roadster was first introduced in 1997 as the high-performance version of the Z3 Roadster equipped with a 3.2L S52 inline-six and a 5-speed manual transmission along with a limited-slip differential, widened bodywork, a model-specific aerodynamic kit, an M-tuned sport suspension, and larger brakes from the E36 M3. This 1999 example was ordered in Estoril Blue over a matching Estoril Blue/Black Nappa leather interior and is accompanied by a paint-matched hardtop. Modifications include a Never Done Garage front splitter and rear lower diffuser, Recaro Pole Position fixed bucket racing seats, a Sparco steering wheel, Never Done Garage door cards with blue fabric pull straps, a custom 4-point roll cage with a harness bar, a Clutchmasters single mass competition clutch, a custom GMG center pipe, high-flow catalytic converters, a Cosmos Racing cold air intake, Status Gruppe SGT-SRS adjustable coilovers, a reinforced rear subframe, a Racing Dynamics front strut brace, and more. Showing just over 53k miles on the odometer, this 1999 BMW M Roadster is now being offered at auction by its seller out of California.

The exterior is finished in Estoril Blue (335) with a paint-matched hardtop and a blue convertible soft top with new plastic windows. The headlights have been refreshed and clear Euro-style front bumper lights have been fitted in addition to Never Done Garage front spitters and a rear lower diffuser. The factory 17” BMW Style 40 “Roadstar” wheels are dressed in Bridgestone Potenza RE760 performance tires showing date codes from 2015. The seller notes the front and rear bumpers have been refinished under previous ownership, and there is a small paint crease on the lower front bumper as well as a blemish on the passenger side of the rear bumper. The seller also notes the BMW roundels, lower mesh grille, the antenna, door handle seals, and gas cap have all been replaced with OEM parts. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The interior is upholstered in Estoril Blue/Black Nappa leather with painted accents on the console and center stack. The original seats have been replaced with black velour Recaro Pole Position fixed bucket racing seats, which are installed with Motion Motorsport seat brackets and Crow 4-point racing harnesses. Additional modifications consist of a custom 4-point roll cage and X-brace with a harness bar, a Sparco steering wheel, Never Done Garage door panels with blue fabric pull straps, an M aluminum shift knob, a UUC clutch stop, and an OEM radio delete panel. The original steering wheel, door panels, roll hoops, and radio are said to accompany the sale. Driver’s amenities include air conditioning, cruise control, power accessories, and a premium Harmon Kardon sound system. The seller notes the power top function has been reversibly disconnected, and the airbag warning light is currently triggered by the aftermarket Sparco steering wheel.

The M Roadster is powered by a 3.2L S52 inline-six derived from the E36 M3, factory rated at 240 HP and 236 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by a ZF 5-speed manual transmission and mechanical limited-slip differential, allowing acceleration from 0-60 MPH in approximately 5 seconds. This Z3 received a Clutchmasters single mass clutch and lightened flywheel, a short-throw shifter, a custom GMG racing center pipe with high flow catalytic converters, new exhaust hangers and seals, a Cosmos Racing cold air intake, a Mishimoto oversized aluminum radiator, Status Gruppe SGT-SRS fully adjustable coilovers, and a Racing Dynamics front strut brace. Since 48k miles, the water pump, belt, tensioner, thermostat, and radiator hoses have been replaced along with new spark plugs, coil packs, a camshaft position sensor, transmission mounts, guibo, and VANOS system service. The front brake pads and rotors have been recently changed, the subframe has been reinforced, and the lower chassis X-brace has been powder coated. A service was also just completed at BMW Fresno including new oil, filters, and a brake fluid flush.

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a battery charging system, and some original parts.

@offtarHess this was going to complement my clownshoe as a track toy but I guess it was too nice and low mileage with the hammer price.

@dominick9998 OEM steering wheel (with airbag), seatbelts, roll hoops, & door cards are included. No OEM shifter (assuming you’re referring to the knob) or seats. Only 1 key.

  • dominick9998 (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@REV so, you have original steering wheel, seatbelts, door cards, roll hoops and shifter? Both keys?

  • REV (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Jaferd Forgot to address leaks/VANOS questions. No leaks that I know of. VANOS was addressed within the last ~1k miles or so and completed by Danny at MiniCorsa (I have documentation for this).

  • REV (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Jaferd it has passed smog twice under my ownership, however, the intake, and aftermarket cats do not have CARB certification. In short, if you get a stickler, it likely won’t pass a visual.

To address this and some messages I’ve received; I do not have the factory cats. MIGHT have the factory intake, but I’d have to look for it.

Seats are adjustable on the mounts, but not quick adjust (i.e. no sliders). You can move them forward and aft, and adjust front and rear heigh for rake purposes. For what it’s worth, I’m 5’10” and they’re currently adjusted perfectly for me.

  • Jaferd 2 years, 5 monthsago

Does it pass Calif smog? Leaks? Rebuilt vanos? Seats adjustable? Thanks

  • REV (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Final hours folks! I’ll be around to answer any questions that pop up. There is a reserve on the car, but after the conversation with my wife this morning about the contingency plan if it doesn’t sell, said reserve may come down if we’re getting close to asking towards the end.

  • REV (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@CarNutinMiami I do not. I have almost every other factory interior part aside from the seats.

  • CarNutinMiami 2 years, 5 monthsago

Do you still have the original seats?

  • REV (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Ccamgo appreciate you chiming in buddy!

    Hey all,

Prior owner here - I sold the car to Erik in late '18/early'19 (if memory serves). Was then and is now a peach, as Erik has been a great caretaker to her.

I am very fastidious about my cars and spend the time many don't to fully sort them.

initially car was built for track use, but when complete it was too darn nice. I did one event in it before selling – it was called PureTrack Driving. It was in the Angeles stadium parking lot. Cone course auto cross for 1 hr session, 10 runs.

Car did great, didn’t skip a beat and no issues whatsoever. That was maybe 6 months before I sold the car, and put several hundred miles of road use on her.

In my mind, not even sure that counts as a full blow auto cross. But certainly “never been tracked”. GLWS, but don't be surprised if I get weak kneed and want her back!

  • REV (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Dannyboy676 Hey! Zero track use under my ownership. The previous owner initially set it up for autocross but then purchased a GT3 for those duties. I’ll reach out to him today to get a clear answer on how much, if any, track time the car had.

Zero mechanical issues to my knowledge.

  • Dannyboy676 (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Hi, what type of track use has this seen? Any mechanical issues?

  • Dannyboy676 2 years, 5 monthsago

Hey guys! Just thought I’d chime in and intro myself. I’m Erik, owner of the little blue car you see here. I’m currently traveling across the country in an RV with the fam so my responses might be slightly delayed, but I’ll address every question/comment as soon as possible. Thanks and happy bidding!
