First introduced in late 1996 as Porsche’s flagship mid-engine roadster, the Boxster has earned recognition among enthusiasts for its agile performance and exciting driving experience. This first-generation 1998 example comes finished in Arena Red Metallic over a Graphite Grey interior and features optional 17” Twist alloy wheels, a HiFi sound system, cruise control, and more. Showing just over 36k miles on the odometer, this 986 Boxster is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Connecticut.
This example comes finished in Arena Red Metallic with a grey convertible soft top and rides on optional 17” Carrera-look Twist wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires from 2020. Other details include integrated side air intakes, a speed-activated rear spoiler, and a central exhaust outlet. The seller notes several minor stone chips on the bumper and hood have been professionally touched up. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin presents Graphite Grey leather upholstered seats with color-coordinated dashboard and door panels. Equipment includes power-adjustable seats, cruise control, automatic climate control, a HiFi sound system, a CD stereo, a wind deflector, and door sills with Boxster insignias. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are confirmed to be in proper working order.
Mounted behind the driver is a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter flat-six engine rated at 201 HP and 181 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a desirable 5-speed manual transmission and stopping power is handled by 4-piston fixed aluminum monobloc brake calipers on all four corners. The seller notes a new battery was fitted in May 2024 and confirms there are no outstanding maintenance items.
This sale will include a clean title, two keys, and owner’s manuals.
The seller would like you to know: “Available for auction is this 1998 Arena Red Porsche Boxster. Complete records are available from 2001. The car has a clean Carfax report and a clean Connecticut title.”

An interesting fact Is that this 1998 Porsche Boxster 986 is 2 inches longer than a 1998 Porsche 911.
@Niche Thank you! I don’t think you will find a low mileage 986 with only a few past owners like this car in pristine condition.
One of the best bang for your buck, Porsche. Very nice. Tempting.
@needanothercar Yes, it is ice cold. It was 86 degrees with 80% humidity here yesterday. It blew cold as ice.
Does the ac work?
@Sanderson1 Unfortunately they tend to fail with "no signs of failing". But you're correct in that this early 986 would have come with the 'better' bearing from the factory.
@SVTJayC No changes except oil change. My understanding is that the 986 has a 2 row IMS bearing. I believe the trouble came from single row IMS bearings with larger engines in later models. There is no sign of bearing problems with this car. There are no problems with the car.
Any major changes in condition since the last time it traded last year? I assume the IMS/RMS/Clutch have still not been done?
@Sanderson1 Well understood, thank you.
@howard246 hi , I have taken and downloaded several photos of the convertible top in place as well as still photos of the movement of the mechanism that raises and lower the convertible top. I don’t believe I can upload any more video time of the mechanism in motion. Please believe me, there is nothing wrong with the convertible top mechanism and it is one of the easiest ones to use that I have ever used.

@howard246 hi, these photos and videos were done by a professional photographer last week. The top is in perfect condition and moves up and down with no problem. I will see if it can be arranged asap.
Nice Boxster! Could we please see pictures without the hardtop and a video of the soft top going up and down? Thank you.
There is also a cradle with casters for the hardtop. It can be seen in the photo of front stowage area.
To PCARMARKET community: the Hardtop is included
@Firewood yes!! The HARDTOP is included. The soft top is dark gray in perfect condition and the mechanism is in perfect condition. That was a total oversite on my part. Thank you for pointing it out!
Nice example! Odd though that nowhere in the description is the red removable hardtop mentioned. Seems obvious, but can you confirm the hardtop is indeed included with the car? Thanks!

Hi car lovers, it has been my pleasure to be the custodian of this beautiful Boxster. I have a large car collection and I am now at a point in my life that I am selling some of my cherished cars. You won’t be disappointed with this Porsche. It has always been garaged and maintained. I just replaced the battery. Have fun bidding and good luck.
