The Carrera S is one of the rarest and most sought-after versions of the 993 Carrera, featuring a widened bodyshell derived from the 911 Turbo and a unique split-grille rear decklid along with a naturally aspirated engine sending power to the rear wheels. Representing the final model year of the air-cooled Porsche 911, this 1998 Porsche 993 Carrera S is finished in Black Metallic over a matching leather interior and comes factory equipped with optional hardback leather Sport Seats, a limited-slip differential, and Automatic Braking Differential (ABD). It was delivered new in Canada and was acquired by the current owner from Porsche of London, Ontario. The car has been upgraded to a 3.8-liter engine displacement along with the installation of a Fister exhaust, BBS wheels, KW coilover suspension, a Numeric short shifter, MOMO steering wheel, Rennline floorboards, and a Porsche Classic (PCCM) head unit. With approximately 1k kilometers driven since the 3.8-liter engine build, this Carrera S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Canada.
Compared to the standard 993 Carrera, the Carrera S version receives the wide bodyshell, bumpers, and side skirts of the 911 Turbo along with a model-specific split-grille rear decklid. This 1998 example is finished in Black Metallic (L744) with red brake calipers mounted behind aftermarket 18” BBS E88 wheels. The car rides on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires from 2022. Other equipment includes clear turn signal lenses, integrated front fog lights, headlamp washers dual exhaust outlets, an electric sunroof, a speed-activated rear spoiler, and a roof spoiler with an integrated brake light. The seller notes some rock chips are present on the front end and the clear coat shows polishing burns on a small section of a door. Additionally, the car has received 3M paint protection film on the rear quarters and a recent ceramic coating. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The Black leather interior features a pair of optional electric height-adjustable hardback Sport Seats, an aftermarket MOMO steering wheel, aluminum Rennline floorboards, a Numeric short shifter, and a modern Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM) head unit. Factory equipment includes power windows and mirrors, automatic climate control, cruise control, and a sound system. The seller describes the cabin to be in very good condition while showing some minor signs of wear on the seats.
The car’s original 3.6-liter flat-six engine has been recently rebuilt and upgraded to a 3.8-liter displacement including 11:1 compression Mahle 3.8 RS pistons, 993 RS camshafts, and Carrillo rods. An upgraded Fister 3 exhaust system has also been installed along with KW coilover suspension. Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission and an optional limited-slip differential. The seller indicates the engine was rebuilt within the last 1k kilometers and the car is supported by an extensive collection of service records. There are no outstanding maintenance items reported and images of the engine build are provided in the gallery.
This sale will include a spare tire, the factory Turbo Twist wheels, service records, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Welcome to our auction of this stunning 993 Carrera 2 S. Featuring a brand new 3.8L engine, along with a plethora of other upgrades, this is an incredible driver’s car example of the 993. As always, we will be more than happy to assist in the shipping/import process if required and will answer any questions regarding import. Happy bidding! Our client has decided to include the original Turbo Twists in the sale as well! This car will come with two sets of wheels: the BBS E88's (Very difficult to get, a 2 year wait from BBS!), and the factory Turbo Twists. Photos of the wheels have been uploaded when they were on the car. These photos were prior to the build, the wheels are currently in storage. Please let us know if you have any other questions regarding the wheels or the car. Thank you!

@bergx7 Please check the photos of the car at the dealership with the original wheels on, the mark is visible. It is very difficult to see from far away like you are asking, honestly not noticeable even. You can only see it when you are extremely up close and from certain angles. Thanks!
@autosportclassic the inside shots are helpful, do you have one zoomed out on right side so the door mark is viewable from a bit farther out?
Not missing the opportunity to bid 93,993 here…

Coming up to an hour left! This is an incredible colour, Black Metallic (L744) has flakes in it which make the car look brown under sunlight but black in other lighting. Another very unique aspect of this car, one of our favourites. Let us know if there are further questions!

The paint condition is incredible, like glass. It is only the burn mark and rock chips which are notable, however the paint itself is absolutely flawless!
@bergx7 Uploaded! Apologies, we have a ton of snow outside so we can’t take the car out. These are what we previously had, I took the “sunny” photos on the day of our photoshoot. Photos of the car’s recent detail have also been uploaded. Hope this helps, let me know if you need anything else!

@autosportclassic sorry last request: if it’s reasonably sunny outside can you just pull car out in sun and get some iPhone photos of it? All the retouched photos in low light are hard to judge paint condition. Just a normal, unretouched side, front and rear shot will do.
@bergx7 The average readings were between 101-135 for all over the car typically, we even had this confirmed with two local bidders who came to see the car. They both personally paint metered everything and confirmed that it was original paint. It is slightly thinner than normal because it has been cut and polished, however every single part of the car is all original which is incredible for the mileage. We tested every few inches for every panel and it all came back correct, it was very meticulous. Hope this answers your questions. Thank you!
@amoraes It actually should from what we know. It has all original exhausts except for the Fister modification, however, that should not have any affect on emissions. It is a Canadian car so it should meet the specifications.
@autosportclassic on the original paint comment below, did you check with paint meter to confirm? Mind sharing the average readings you saw for door, fender, hood, roof? No need to post 50 photos of all the various spots, just wanted to understand how you confirmed its original paint
@autosportclassic: can I assume this car will not pass CA smog? Please advise.
@alexrotta Correct!
What are the rear tires specs? 285/30ZR 18?
Bid in the amount of $87,993
I can’t speak to this particular car at all, but having been a US buyer with @autosportclassic in the very recent past I can tell you they are very professional, communication is fantastic, and they will walk you through the entire shipping/customs process. Bid with confidence. GLWA!
Welcome to the last few hours of this auction! We just want to reiterate just how special this car is. With a big $80k build, which includes a 3.8L rebuild, BBS E88’s, short shifter, bump steer kit, KW suspension, and a plethora of other upgrades, this is one incredible example of the C2S. All original paint (we have confirmed this!) and an interior in excellent shape, two sets of wheels, and the original steering wheel, we cannot wait for this car to go to a good home today! Let use know if there are any further questions. Thank you.
Bid in the amount of $86,993
@wilhit10 Yes. The car is not broken. It drives perfect, the LSD plates are simply worn which is common on all these cars. We will include the parts with the sale or deduct off of the final sale price. Thanks!
Are you refunding just the cost of the parts?
@bergx7 They are in excellent condition. Photos have been uploaded. Thank you!
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
@autosportclassic I think this got lost in the mix below but can you confirm condition of door check straps?
@autosportclassic thank you for looking into this and the thoughtful way you plan to handle it. I wish the seller of my last PCarMarket car was so forthright!
Hi all! We independently checked the LSD at our shop, and unfortunately the plates are worn out. Our client was misinformed, and after doing the final inspection today we verified that the plates are worn. We apologize for this, but we want to be as transparent as possible. Because of this, we will deduct the cost of the plates off of the car, or include the parts in the sale. We will go over this with the winning bidder, and proceed accordingly with whichever option is easiest for them. Thank you for understanding!
Bid in the amount of $85,993
@Bretoner Our best guess is 350hp and 320lb/ft of torque. Let us know if you have any other questions!
@PhantomU To match the factory look of the 993. Thanks!
How much power does the car make?
GLWA
Why PPF on the rear quarters but not on the front end?
This upgrade to 3.8 was an option, X51, that was available on "rest of the world" 993 cars, albeit it was pretty rare because of the expense. It is not, however, an RS 3.8 as those were different and were a "bore in" among other differences. The X51 had a predecessor in the 964 series, even rarer, called a "Power kit" not sure what the specifics of that were. The X51 also was included in all 997.1 50th Anniversary Club Coupes and added a carbon fiber air box that is quite noticeable among other changes. My understanding is that all of the X51 options were expensive and rarely ordered which is why having it makes this car special in IMHO....full disclosure I did the same upgrade to my 97C2S.
GLWTA!
@gfcollins911 Yes, they are!
@bergx7 For the LSD, we can check it for you on our lift today. I understand your concern, but we know that it is perfect. We will have it on the lift to show you. Thanks!
@GruppeG Quite easy! As the car is 25 years old and NA spec it’s extremely easy to do so. With duties and import paid, you can ship it straight to the US and register it there. Thanks!
Novice question, how hard is the process to import this to the US?
@bergx7 Good 993 related questions... would like to hear @seller answer re: LSD. I'll add another typical 993 issue: door check straps. Are they intact and operating properly? Thank you!
Bid in the amount of $83,993
Last comment was directed to Jreifler but pcar didn’t pick up the tag correctly. Oh well…
@autosportclassic thanks. Good to hear it shifts smoothly. On LSD, did you actually check with car in the air or assuming it’s good? At this mileage, it is highly unlikely factory plates are working unless it’s been refreshed at some point.
Good to hear on other topics too. Buddy got a 993 and installed the PCCM only to realize most of the speakers were shot which made it slightly less enjoyable. Just something to budget for but sounds like not an issue here.
Motor mounts similar to LSD, probably due for RS spec upgrade unless they’ve been replaced recently so all that new power gets to the ground cleanly. The rubber just ages over time even with stock power.
The immobilizer removal is a nice bonus. Drive block can be a PITA.
feel free to put up a bid or leave the auction to folks that actually have interest in buying a car here.
Bid in the amount of $76,000
@sunny: My bad. I guess I didn't know how a 3.6 got to 3.8 or 4.0 without assuming it was bored or stroked like other engines I had been taught growing up.
@Sunny The total cost of this build added up has amounted close to $80k CAD. Factoring in the incredible motor, new parts and upgrades, as well as the BBS wheels, this is an impeccable ready to drive example of the C2S. Thank you!
Additional photos of the Turbo Twists have been uploaded. Thanks!
@ArtVandelay You must not understand how Porsche engines are built....there is no "boring out" each of the six cylinders and pistons in this situation are replaced in this situation it's a slip in... no boring...it also seems the bottom end of the engine was also rebuilt..Carrillo rods are a big plus IMBO...just trying to help

@bergx7 Apologies for the delay.
1. The gear box was only serviced with oil, there is absolutely no hesitation with going into first gear. The car rows gears perfectly and smoothly.
2. LSD functioning as it should, zero problems.
3. The factory OEM clutch was installed, flywheel is factory as well untouched as it didn’t need replacing when the motor was out.
4. Engine mounts are still factory, they were in perfect condition so they were not replaced.
5. All interior speakers working.
6. AC and heat both working
7. Immobilizer has been removed through the FVD tune.
Thank you!
Interior speakers and engine mounts. Of course. Let's get down to the really substantive issues that can't be changed in a matter of an hour . . .
As an owner of a 97 C2S who has taken a 131,000 mile thru a similar process...3.8 upgrade, Guard LSD upgrade and a total renewal of every mechanical issue my longterm mechanic could find, steering rack, AC on and on... I am interested in this auction as I believe these cars, 97 and 98 Carrera Ss have moved to the point where condition comes closer to low milage examples in terms of value. Of course that is a biased opinion.
I have looked at all the pictures but can't see what been invested...I am very happy with the 45K+ cost of getting my car there.
This looks like a great example done the way I like and with the hard back seats...
GLWTA

A few other assorted questions:
1. So gearbox was not refreshed as part of the work? Any signs of worn synchros such as slight grinding between gears or hesitation to go into 1st?
2. Related but does LSD still work and has it been refreshed or still oem? (these tend to wear out and stop working if not serviced)
3. What clutch was installed? Still running OEM flywheel or lightweight?
4. What engine mounts are being used?
5. Do all interior speakers work without distortion / crackling?
6. AC and heat both working as intended?
7. Does the car still have drive block installed and does the fob work on the first press or require several presses to activate?
Bid in the amount of $70,993
@911WAM The engine has been broken in, there was a fresh oil change before winter as well. Regarding the transmission, it was fully serviced with new oil. Thanks!
@autosportclassic
Please confirm with the previous owner/seller what break in procedure was followed post engine rebuild.
additionally, at 215k km has the transmission ever been rebuilt?

@bergx7 Apologizes, no there has been zero track use since the build.
Understood on compression / leak down.
Can you confirm the question on track use? These older cars are harder to validate if there was an over-rev compared to the straightforward DME report on the newer cars.
Our client has found new invoices regarding the car, including a brand new alternator and serpentine belt kit. Invoices and photo of the kit have been uploaded.
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
@bergx7 There is an FVD chip on the ECU which was custom programmed for this engine build. Regarding compression/leak down, unfortunately we can’t get that done before the auction ends as is within the next few days. But this is a new build, there are no worries regarding anything mechanical. Thanks!
What ECU is the car running? Stock or modified / aftermarket?
Can you provide compression / leak down before the end of the auction?
Any track use since the build?
@EP23997 Message us through the contact seller button, we can absolutely set up a date. Thanks!

I am local to you. Can I please see the car in person before the end of the auction?
Bid in the amount of $30,993
@ArtVandelay Yes! Apologies, this is a new build. Matching numbers. Thanks!
Just to make sure I understand given I keep seeing references to new motor..., it is not a NEW motor, it is a bored out and rebuilt existing numbers matching original engine?
@ggp.ny In its current condition, the car is immaculate. The car has zero problems, a reminder that the new motor has only around 1000 km on it. No rust, new suspension, other new parts, this is the perfect driver's 993. The only imperfections are cosmetic such as the small burn mark. Other than that, the car 100% perfect to drive and looks incredible. Hope this answers your question. Thank you!
Would you trust this car in its current condition to be reliably daily driven (spring-fall) and taken on long drives?

Additional photos of parts has been uploaded. These include an Elephant Racing bump steer kit, aluminum gas cap, alongside many other parts. These have all been installed on the car.

Wow , gorgeous 993 !
@ggp.ny It is very hard to say as it depends on the car and the value of the vehicle. All in, including shipping, our best guess for any state would be around mid to high 4 figures. Again, this is a very vague number and we will go through all details with the winning bidder. Duties/import fees will be the same regardless of the state, the changing factor would be the shipping. We have brokers and will work directly with our trusted shipping company to ensure everything goes smoothly for the winning bidder. Let us know if we can help with any further questions. Thanks!
Bid in the amount of $11,993
@autosportclassic What kind of import fees should one expect to New York?
Hello everyone! Our client has decided to include the original Turbo Twists in the sale as well! This car will now come with two sets of wheels, the BBS E88's (Very difficult to get, a 2 year wait from BBS!), and the factory Turbo Twists. Photos of the wheels have now been uploaded when they were on the car. These photos were prior to the build, the wheels are currently in storage. Please let us know if you have any other questions regarding the wheels or the car. Thank you!
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
@montegofd3s We can assist with the documentation and shipping process for you. We have a broker for that and can arrange shipping as well hassle free. As the car is over 25 years old and is NA spec, it should be quite easy to do! As long as all import paperwork has been filled out and duties have been taken care of, you can simply ship it to your state and register it there. We will go into every detail and assist as much as we can from our end with the winning bidder. Thank you!
Any idea of the process for importation to the US?
@bergx7 Hi @bergx7,
1. Our client recently made a new purchase and they decided to list this car for sale.
2. A work order was just uploaded for the engine build. The motor was built by Hunter Motorsports.
3. Absolutely no smoke, does not burn any oil.
4. We unfortunately do not have a compression / leak down test as of yet.
5. The dimensions of the burn are roughly around the same as the dimensions of the door handle, please see the walk around posted to get a better idea.
Please let us know if you have further questions! Thank you.
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
Awesome driver example and looks to be well built. A few questions:
1. Why selling after all the recent work?
2. Do you have receipts for the engine build itself? I see the photos which are helpful but who did the build?
3. Does the car consume any oil? Any smoke on startup or under heavy throttle?
4. Do you have compression / leak down?
5. What are the dimensions of the door paint burn? Hard to tell from the photo exactly
Thanks!
Bid in the amount of $10,993
Photos of extra parts and original steering wheel have been added. These will all come with the car.
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
@Warpig All numbers matching.
I see it has a new engine, do the numbers match on the engine , trans , and frame?
Thanks,
@wilhit10 It is simply the steering wheel with the bypass, everything can be placed back to original. The buyer will include the original steering wheel along with the car. Thanks!
How much of the airbag system has been removed(for those of us who need state inspections).
@Anandshah84 Yes! The Carrera S is widebody from factory, unlike its non S counterpart.
Body looks like the wide body?
@RedArcadia It is incredible to drive. An example we wish for everyone to experience!
@Flsupraguy Yes, at the crank. Let us know if you have any other questions!
@autosportclassic I assume at the crank and not the wheels?
@Flsupraguy We currently do not have dyno numbers. Our best educated guess would be 350 HP and 320 FT/LBS of torque.
Interesting car. Very muscular looking. Love the BBS wheels on a 993. Yet another example I wish I could afford!
Bid in the amount of $1,993
Bid in the amount of $993
Any dyno numbers?
Welcome everyone, to our second auction of the week! Featuring this beautiful 993 C2S. Brand new BBS E88 wheels, brand new 3.8L motor, and an incredible amount of other upgrades make this 993 simply perfect.
For absolute transparency, we have included photos of the noted rock chips and burn mark on the passenger door. This is a car with all original paint, and therefore the noted rock chips are nothing too out of the ordinary. The small burn mark happened during previous ownership, as our client bought the car with this imperfection. These imperfections are only seen up close, as in our photos from the photoshoot they are very difficult to spot.
With a nearly perfect interior and a host of upgrades such as PCCM, upgraded floorboards, short shift kit, steering wheel, etc. Alongside a brand new engine, KW suspension, and a Fister exhaust, this example of the 993 makes an incredible drivers car. Please feel free to ask us any questions, we can't wait for this to go to a good home!
