Representing the final year of the air-cooled Porsche 911 and one of the rarest models of the 993 generation, this 1998 Porsche 993 Carrera S Coupe features wide Turbo-style bodywork and a 3.6-liter flat-six engine driving the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox. It came factory-finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over Black leather upholstery and optioned with 18” Technology hollow-spoke wheels, 8-way power seats, cruise control, and an electric sunroof. The car was purchased by the seller in 2022 and refurbished to show quality standards by an air-cooled Porsche specialist and restoration team. The exterior has been refinished in its original color, the clutch and flywheel were replaced, and a set of upgraded KW V1 coilovers have been installed. Showing approximately 35k miles on the odometer, this C2S is now being offered for auction out of Alabama.
Compared to a standard 993 Carrera, the Carrera S features wide fenders and bumpers from the 911 Turbo and a unique split-grille rear decklid. This 1998 example was completely refinished in its original color of Arctic Silver Metallic by Martin’s Classic Cars of Huntsville, Alabama, in September 2024. It comes equipped with projector headlights, headlamp washers, integrated fog lights, power mirrors, an electric sunroof, a speed-activated rear spoiler, dual exhaust outlets, and optional lightweight 18” Technology hollow-spoke wheels with colored Porsche crest center caps. New Continental ExtremeContact tires were mounted in 2022. The CARFAX report shows an accident with another motor vehicle in 1999 and the seller states damage to the driver’s rear quarter panel was sustained as a result. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a full CARFAX report.
The Black leather interior includes 8-way power-adjustable seats, a four-spoke leather steering wheel, automatic climate control, cruise control, a central locking system, a sound system, and a Porsche CDR-210 stereo. Refurbishment in 2023 included replacements of the headliner, driver’s seat switch, and speakers along with repairs to the speedometer.
Rated at 282 HP and 250 lb.-ft of torque, the air-cooled 3.6-liter M64 flat-six engine sends power to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transaxle. The car features fixed 4-piston calipers with cross-drilled rotors at each corner and an upgraded KW V1 coilover suspension. Mechanical refurbishment performed in 2022 included replacing the valve cover, intake manifold, and exhaust gaskets, knock sensors, and a differential output shaft seal. Since 2023, the clutch and flywheel have been replaced along with the clutch cylinders, idle air control valve, AC compressor, fuel pump, battery, brakes, master cylinder, and sway bar end links. The DME wiring harness and timing chain tensioner were also repaired.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: "Extremely rare, low mile, compelling color combo, last year air-cooled 1998 993 C2S Sunroof 6-Speed Coupe is that it has been fully sorted and cosmetically & mechanically restored — well beyond the scope of most, and it drives arguably better than lower mile, pristine examples that we have experienced."

@Soapdisk212 I confirmed that the aircooled specialist shop (Martin's Classic Cars) did a leakdown test during it's initial inspection; all cylinders were within 5% (excellent). The C2S's engine was fully inspected, refreshed and tuned as part of the restoration -- the low mile engine is very strong, smooth, with excellent power delivery.
Hi. Was there a engine compression test done during restore process?

@ehd911 Thanks. Went back and looked. Appreciate the redundancy.
@Condorman @AC9 No; As outlined earlier, the restoration paintwork was not a "re-spray"; it was a full bare metal show quality repaint to the 993 C2S's original color by a concours winning paint & restoration shop. All panels match. Our media is from casual iPhone shoots (no editing, no re-touching, no enhancement, etc.) and will "lighting-up the silver flat panels" (doors) and darken the "curvy 993 panels" (fenders & quarters"), yet it's symmetrical to each side. This effect is somewhat exaggerated in this "low light, backlit, bright sky" setting. I provided a link earlier in this discussion showing the same effect on a concours restored silver 69S earlier. I also provided alternate lighting photos of the 993 C2S: outside, inside, close-ups, rack photos and walkaround videos that corroborate such.
@Condorman I'm stuck on that as well.
I don't understand why both driver and passenger doors do not match the rest of the body. Is it possible that when they did the repaint that they did not repaint the doors? Please confirm.

@AHudson777 Yes; appreciated. I confirmed with Martins Classic Cars that the reference on the initial 7.2022 invoice as to "..."multiple layers of paint w/bad prep"...", referred to the left quarter panel that was determined to be the result of the accident as it was the only painted panel. I also confirmed that the broken bracket and epoxied foglight appeared to be a general use/wear/time or "11 year storage" related.
@ehd911, Nice looking C2S with extensive work and repair history.
I may have misunderstood your recent comment about paint limited to rear quarter and ‘likely only a scratch’ as one of the exhaustive rebuild receipts notes ‘multiple layers of paint and bad prep’. Also referenced are ‘broken brackets and epoxied fog lamp’ up front at least partly necessitating a new front bumper.
Please don’t assume I’m attempting to cast dispersion, but merely to help bidders get a clearer picture of the most accurate description.
A low mile C2S is a desirable piece and buyers get choosier the higher the price goes, deserving as much clarity as can be offered. It is nonetheless a gorgeous car.
Best wishes to buyer and seller.
@artichoke The restoration was done since the 993 C2S was effectively a "barn find", stored for 11-years and our client wanted it to be show quality perfect -- sparing no expense in the restoration of this extremely rare, low mile example. During the "full car refurbishment/restoration" it was determined that the only paintwork was on the right rear quarter; no signs of any damage from the 1999 minor accident CarFAX notation, just paint work on this (1) original panel, likely from a scratch -- that has now been part of the cited full car cosmetic & mechanical restoration.
Why did this car with so few miles require a bare metal repaint? How serious was the accident damage?
@Al_Cantara Thank you. The thick PPF on the quarter panels has not been installed as of this point (to the fresh paint); yet it will be done prior to delivery. No “smell issues” in the ventilation system or otherwise.
@Seller: are the clear PPF original style gravel guards mounted on the rear quarter panels in front of the wheel openings?
Rodents damaging the wiring harness and nesting in the air vents - are there any odors coming from the air vents? Common issue with rodent infestation.
Applause to the selling dealer who spent a small fortune fixing up this C2S.

@ehd911 I don't want to disparage the car but I'm off the opinion the color is off. Great car otherwise. GLWA
@Bored The effect of lighting and sky reflection can project such in our "low light, bright sky" photoshoot setting, especially on silver cars, yet effect is symmetrical to each side (a bit more on the side that was shot first in a brighter sky as the sun is going down, as in this case). Here is similar instance on a concours restored 69S- https://inventory.trisslsportscars.com/vehicles/516/1969-porsche-911-s Note that I provided alternate lighting photos as well.
Is it me or does the drivers door look a different shade of silver?
@AZCollector The restoration paintwork was not a "re-spray"; it was a full bare metal show quality repaint to it's original color by a concours winning paint & restoration shop. The restoration shop did not need to remove the glass for the paintwork as the 2-piece seal allowed the full access to the painted surfaces. No rust; the invoice referenced corrosion on seal & wiring around the antenna in the windshield, requiring a new windshield for the radio to work properly. The rear glass was replaced to install a new headliner, as cited on the invoice. Yes; any wiring issue or other issue was resolved during the complete restoration. Yes; the immobilizer has been bypassed.
Reading the receipts looks like this was not a "Glass Out" respray. The windshield (based on receipts) was removed much later in the process and more corrosion found. Was their paintwork and rust remediation at the time of the windshield replacement?
Have all the wiring issues been resolved?
Is the immobilizer been bypassed?
