We are pleased to present this 1998 Porsche 993 Carrera 4S finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black interior. Representing one of the last air-cooled 911’s produced, the 993 Carrera 4S is coveted for its wide Turbo styling, all-wheel-drive system, and naturally aspirated performance.  This final-year 1998 example was purchased in Pittsburgh by its original owner before it was traded in and sold to its next owner during the early 2000s as a Porsche Certified Pre-Owned vehicle.  It was eventually acquired by the current owner in 2009 with approximately 28k miles traveled from new.  Since then, it has been displayed at multiple PCA Porsche Parades and regional shows with many top 3 finishes.  The last national showing was at the 2015 Jay Peak Porsche Parade where the car placed first in class.  Highlighting some rare factory Exclusive options and tasteful modifications, this 993 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Alabama with approximately 45k miles showing on the odometer.

This 993 is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and shares its wide bodywork with the Turbo model. A genuine Techart front bumper was also professionally fitted in 2009.  The factory-applied stone guards remain in place and the seller describes some minor signs of road-going wear on the forward portions of the car.  A small area of clear coat burn is also noted above the right taillight as well as two spots of chipped clear coat beneath the passenger door handle and near the seam between the passenger front fender and windshield cowl. Additional images are provided in the photo gallery. The CARFAX report indicates an accident to have occurred in 1998 in which the airbags were deployed, however the seller contests that the airbags were not deployed, and the incident resulted in a cosmetic touch-up of the passenger side front fender and door. Additionally, the seller notes that a door ding was removed from the driver side in 2019 and the door’s finish was blended to complete the repair.  This 993 rides on a set of Porsche Exclusive 18” Sport Classic with colored center crests and Continental ExtremeContact tires.

The black partial leather interior features Exclusive aluminum instrument dials and Porsche crested headrests.  Other factory options include the Power Seat Package, HiFi Sound Package, and an AM/FM radio with a CD player.  The interior has also been customized with Rennline aluminum gauge bezels, pedals, door pulls, seat button trims, and handbrake lever.  Custom Lloyds carpet mats have also been added along with a halon fire extinguisher and LED instrument lighting.  Some minor wear is noted on the driver seat bolster and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.

This final-year 993 is equipped with an air-cooled 3.6L flat-six Varioram engine that sends up to 282 HP to all four wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. The seller notes that a Rennline front strut bar has been installed along with a Fabspeed cat-less X-pipe and Fister Stage-II mufflers.  The original catalytic converter is said to accompany the sale.  A comprehensive history of maintenance is said to have been kept throughout the lifetime of the vehicle with a major service recently carried out by the seller including new brake pads and rotors, new distributor caps and rotors, spark plugs, and all new fluids and filters. Some invoices are provided for reference in the gallery along with images of the undercarriage.

This sale will include a collection of service records, the original owner's manuals, an original window sticker, a toolkit, a spare tire, a jack, an air compressor, and a clean title. Do not miss your chance to become the next caretaker of this tastefully appointed final-year 993 Carrera 4S.

@Nine11 I cannot give you an absolute answer regarding Texas emissions as I'm unaware of the test procedures. But the car does not have any check engine lights with the current set-up. I'm also including the factory catalytic converter with the sale and I'm certain the car would pass with that installed in place of the x-pipe. Its a few bolts and 4 sensors to swap pipes.

As for the tach, I rotated it for giggles. A throwback of sorts to early 911s. It just wiggles out and you press it back into place by hand. It's held in with the factory strip of tacky rubber around the outside of the gage. 3 second ordeal.

  • Nine11 (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Would I have any issues passing emissions to register this in Travis County, TX because of the modified exhaust system? Emissions is required in my country for cars less than 24 years old.

What made you rotate the tach? Would it be easy to rotate back?

    Thanks for the quick responses!

I have the pleasure of knowing the owner and this car for many years. The car has been immaculately maintained and cared for.

  • AWeir911 (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Nine11 also with the information being available to carfax in 2008, 10 years after the incident occurred, leaves me with doubts about the accuracy of the police report.

  • AWeir911 (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Nine11 when the car was purchased in 2009, we contacted the original owner as well as the body shop that did the work. They both confirmed that it was a cosmetic parking lot incident and no panels were damaged beyond paint work. Secondly, the car was certified with no damage in 2003 from the selling dealer. I've also personally inspected the front airbag when replacing the horn contact bushings and everything appeared to be as it left the factory. I've also removed the front bumper cover and the aluminum bumper, shocks, and surrounding panels have no evidence of impact and I have photos to document. Additionally, I cannot find a shred of evidence to say the airbag was replaced, no receipts, no dealer invoice, no records of parts ordered from Porsche. I'm pretty certain that Porsche would not CPO a car that had the airbags deployed either.

The green switch next to the center console is an FM-AUX input that piggybacks the antenna. Something easily removed but gave me the ability to listen to music on my phone in the car.

  • Nine11 (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

    Very interested in this car

Could you please comment about the airbag status on Carfax? Why do you think its on the report if it never went off?

Also, what's the green switch below dash on the passenger side?

    Thanks

  • AWeir911 (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@503Tim it may be the screen you are viewing on plus a shadow or two but I've never noticed any difference. Nor have any of the many concours judges. That passenger door and fender were sprayed at the same time and there is no color difference between the hood and fender but I'll try to get some additional shots to show color/shading along the whole passenger side of the car if you'd like. Unfortunately I don't have access to a paint meter.

So many photos! Love it. Is it possible to see some paint meter readings? Lots of pictures of that passenger door and surrounding area and the shadows make it seem just a bit off?

@HlPlinker this car has been a father son experience of showing and driving. Dad is still in PA and son is working as an engineer in AL. The car is and always has been garaged and coddled. No owner change but son has moved for his career.

  • AWeir911 (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@HlPlinker awesome! The team at PCAR did a great job summing up car but feel free to ask me anything throughout the week.

  • HlPlinker (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@AWeir911 Thank you for the clarification. This is better for me now, I'm only five hours away from your car.
    Beautiful car!

  • AWeir911 (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@HlPlinker I'm still the same seller. I pulled the ad from PCA as it brought only interest from "flippers" low-balling the value of the car and was not very productive so I decided to switch platforms.

The car is at a family residence in AL so it can be enjoyed in better weather and less potholes but is still properly registered and titled in PA. No sudden ownership changes.

  • HlPlinker (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Love this 4S with the Classic Sport wheels! One question though, I was watching this car on the PCA marketplace Classifieds a couple of months ago. Is this still being offered by the same owner / seller or has it sold in the last few weeks?

This auction states the car is offered in Alabama, however all pics (blacked out tag) and videos still show PA tags as well as the most current CarFax is still registered in PA and I assume the car is currently titled in PA and not AL?

@cmaxcliff do you know any updated ownership in the past month, since your post of knowing car's current owner and "buy the seller" statement?

  • AWeir911 (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Johnvt11111 transport can easily be arranged. And the head unit in the car is the original unit.

  • Johnvt11111 (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Is the original headunit included in the sale?

  • Johnvt11111 (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@AWeir911 wish it was still there. I’m in that area from time to time. Harrisburg area currently.

  • AWeir911 (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Beandip83 No, it is a period correct genuine TechArt front bumper.

  • Beandip83 (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Is that a euro front bumper?

  • AWeir911 (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Johnvt11111 From 2009-2018, just outside of Scranton, PA.

  • Johnvt11111 (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Where in PA was this car?

  • cmaxcliff (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

I have known this car since it was purchased in 2009. The family that owns the car is Porsche crazy and regular attendees of the Porsche Parade. These are people who win concours but also drive their cars. Their cars are meticulously maintained mechanically and cosmetically. Twelve years of loving ownership here vs handing your money to a car flipper selling a car with no real verifiable history. Another friend of mine always says "buy the seller" and in this case if you look into the seller's Porsche history you will want to buy this car.

  • AWeir911 (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Eurotrash the sport classic wheels shown are the original wheels per the window sticker

  • Eurotrash (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

    Are the original wheels available?

  • AWeir911 (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Hey everyone! I just want to take the opportunity to thank all of you for viewing this auction and share a bit about myself and the car! This 98 C4S was purchased back in 2009 and has been a wonderful car to drive and enjoy! We've had great success showing this car all over the east coast and I hope it is evident in the cleanliness shown in the gallery. I've logged nearly 20,000 trouble-free miles since purchase and have no concerns about hopping in the driver's seat and taking it on a weekend getaway of any distance. Furthermore, I have been a life-long PCA member that has had seat and wrench time in everything from 356s through 997 gen Turbos. Proper maintenance at regular intervals has always been a priority. I welcome any and all questions and will do my best to reply quickly and thoroughly. I work early hours as a metallurgical engineer so any night owls on the west coast may have to be a bit more patient during the week. I appreciate your time and good luck!
