The Panoz Aluminum Intensive Vehicle (AIV) Roadster was the first American sports car to utilize an aluminum extruded space frame. It came equipped with a 32-valve DOHC 4.6L V8 engine borrowed from the 1996 Mustang SVT Cobra. One of just 176 AIV examples in total, this 1998 example is finished in Panoz Blue Metallic over tan leather upholstery. Showing under 2,500 miles on the odometer, this rare Panoz AIV is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

This AIV Roadster was ordered in Panoz Blue Metallic with a black two-bow soft top. The body panels on the AIV Roadster are constructed from superplastic-formed aluminum including fiberglass fender flares. Exterior details include a hood scoop, optional wind wings, central exhaust outlets, and chrome trim on the bumpers, headlights, and trunk latches. It rides on 18” Roush Performance wheels dressed in Pirelli P Zero tires from 2014 with 90% remaining tread reported. The seller notes minor exterior blemishes and a paint chip on one side. Additional images are provided in the gallery.

The cockpit is trimmed in tan leather complemented with wood veneers along the center console and gauge cluster. The seats feature perforated leather inserts with debossed Panoz insignias on the headrests. Other details include white-faced analog instrumentation, a three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a leather-wrapped shift knob. Amenities consist of air conditioning, a CD player, and Eclipse speakers. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be working properly.

Power is derived from a 4.6L DOHC V8 engine sourced from Ford’s Special Vehicles Team (SVT) division. As much as 305 HP and 300 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed Bord-Warner T-45 5-speed manual transmission featuring a Ford 8.8-inch differential with Traction-Lok. Weighing in at just under 2,600 lbs., the AIV can accelerate from 0-60 MPH in as little as 4.5 seconds. Other performance features include power rack and pinion steering, 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes, and independent suspension with adjustable coil-over shocks. The seller adds that fluids were recently changed, the battery was changed, and new catalytic converters were installed.

This sale will include a clean title, factory floor mats, and owner’s manuals.
