Finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic over Gray leather upholstery, this 1998 Mercedes-Benz SL500 features an M119 V8 engine paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission, optional xenon headlights, a power retractable convertible top, a removable hardtop, wood trim, automatic climate control, and power-adjustable seats with memory. The car had been registered in California since 2004 when it was acquired by the seller in March 2024 and is now being offered for auction out of Michigan with approximately 168k miles showing on the odometer.

This SL500 is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) and features post-1996 facelift styling including body-colored bumpers, front fenders with twin rounded slot vents, and the option of bi-xenon headlamps. Equipment includes a power-operated black convertible top, a removable body-colored hardtop, front fog lights, an automatic antenna, twin exhaust tips, and factory 17” Albali alloy wheels. The car rides on Falken 245/45R17 tires installed by the prior owner within the last 2k miles. The seller notes the front bumper was refinished under prior ownership to address stone chips and a light scuff is present on the left rear bumper along with a very slight ding on the left front fender. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is appointed with Gray leather (268) upholstery complemented by matching carpets and burl wood trim. Accessories include power-adjustable seats with memory settings, automatic climate control, cruise control, power windows and mirrors, a central locking system, an original Becker 1492 head unit, and a 6-disc CD changer. The seller describes the interior to be in excellent condition apart from some age-related wear on the lower seating surfaces. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.

A naturally aspirated 5.0-liter M119 V8 DOHC engine delivers up to 315 HP and 347 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed 5G-Tronic automatic transmission. Service in October 2020 (147,645 miles) is said to have included a new fuel pump, two tires mounted and balanced, an engine oil and filter change, front brakes replaced, and the front hydraulic top motors replaced. In April 2024, additional service included an oil and filter change, a new front washer wiper motor, a new cabin air filter, front indicator lights, and a mechanical inspection.

This sale will include a spare tire and a clean title.

@DrivetrainDreamer - I had not specifically addressed you in my comment :) good to know you are not one of those flippers. BTW I am also not a dealer.. peace

@AutoCollect I see no reason for you to jump to conclusions about me! I have also been in many auctions where people come in and just try to snag a "cheap" deal. I don't know what your story is but I am not a dealer. I am looking at buying a reasonable and genuine R129 for myself - so I am willing pay the price I feel is right for it. I suggest that let's not make unnecessary remarks at each other and let our bids do the talking. Thanks

Here we go... I have seen so many auctions where someone comes and land up raising the bids in the hope of buying and flipping them for a quick profit.

@CosKramer - Thanks, that does make a difference.

  • CosKramer (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

I just noticed one thing in the CarFax report. Owner 3 & 4 were the same owner, they were family members of owner 2 and they had passed the car down into the family. So technically owner 2, 3 & 4 were different, but they were essentially the same owners.

@Bdubs - Hi, I have uploaded some more pics. I have taken tried to take pics of the inside of the front right fender from the engine bay side as well as the front side with the hood open. The view is very tight so tried to use the camera flash. There seems to be no signs of a respray or repairs. Also taken a picture of the hologram for the front grill. Hope this helps, please let me know if you have any questions.

The front brake discs and rotors were replaced by the previous buyer just before I purchased it. During the recent service last month, the service team checked the front and rear brakes and they said that it looked like all the brake pads and rotors were new. Hope that helps answer your question.

  • AutoCollect (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

I did see the acceleration video you had uploaded with the post, thanks for that. What about the brakes?

  • CosKramer (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

I had replaced the grill with a used but authentic MB grill since the previous owner had put a cheap non - OEM black grill. The bumper and the right side fog light were the same way when I got it. The pre previous owner had got the bumper resprayed before selling to get rid of the pebble chips. I got it checked from the MB specialist service center where I got the car serviced recently and they said it all looked good. I can share some more specific pics if you need them.

  • CosKramer (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@AutoCollect - Thanks for your question. There are absolutely no issues with the car, I have shared all the details as transparently as possible. Its a genuine car. It was used as a daily driver which expains the miles. Having said that daily drivers need to be reliable and are well maintained regularly - which explains the good condition. I hope I have been able to answer your query, but please feel free to let me know if you have any further questions.

@carfun95 Hi, unfortunately I don't have the AMG wheels.

  • CosKramer (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@carfun95 Hi, thanks for pointing this out. Its a typo in the write up. It's 162K . The video was taken a day before the car was listed. I will get PCarMarket team to get this typo corrected.

  • carfun95 1 month, 2 weeksago

Hi, can you confirm the mileage? The video shows 162k but the post says 168k. Also, do you have the AMG wheels that were on the car from the previous owner?
