The E36 M3 is the second generation of BMWs venerable M3, combining race-inspired BMW Motorsport technology with everyday practicality and luxury. Introduced in 1998, the M3 Convertible saw only 2,252 manual transmission examples during a two-year production run. This 1998 5-speed example is finished in Estoril Blue over a Light Grey Nappa leather interior and was acquired by the seller in August of 2020. Under their ownership it has received new tires, a new water pump, new rear suspension components, new front brake rotors and pads, a clutch pedal assembly replacement with a new master and slave cylinders, and a Mishimoto stainless steel radiator. Showing approximately 89k miles on the odometer, this M3 Convertible is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
This M3 was specified in the iconic BMW Motorsport color of Estoril Blue (335) with a dark blue convertible soft top. The M3 can be differentiated from a standard E36 3-Series by its revised front and rear bumpers, side skirts, wing mirrors, and M3 badging on the side moldings and trunk lid. The 17” Style 24 wheels are mounted with Hankook Ventus tires, the rears of which were replaced earlier in 2021. Clear paint protection film has been applied over the forward portion of the nose and behind the front wheels. The seller notes two very minor dents on the passenger door, a crack in the bumper to the right of the driver’s side fog light, two small holes in the convertible top behind the passenger side window, and very minor scratches throughout. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin is trimmed in Light Grey Nappa leather with matching door panels and carpeting featuring M3-logo floor mats. Standard features include power-adjustable Sport Seats with M-stripes, dual-zone automatic climate control, an onboard computer, a Harmon-Kardon audio system, M3-logo door sills, and power windows, door locks, and mirrors. The seller describes some wear to the driver’s side seat bolster and some minor cracking of the leather seat surfaces.
The E36 M3 is powered by an S52 3.2L inline-six engine which engine sends as much as 240 HP and 236 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. During the seller’s ownership, regular oil changes were observed, as well as replacement of the rear suspension components, new front brake pads and rotors, new rear tires, installation of a Mishimoto stainless steel radiator, a new water pump, and a complete clutch pedal assembly replacement including a new clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. The seller reports the coolant lever sensor will need to be replaced.
This sale will include a clean title.

Planning on uploading a driving video either later today or tomorrow morning! I apologize for the delay just couldn’t get around getting the video done until the weekend started.
I owned the coupe version of this exact car (but with vader seats). Absolutely loved it. I've been fortunate enough to own a number of nice cars over the years and the driving dynamics of this car ranks it in my top 3. Somebody hit me and it was a total loss, unfortunately. It had 125k miles at the time and I put 100k of those miles on it myself with zero issues. I just wanted to let anybody considering these cars know that they are amazing vehicles. BTW, the technical name for that interior color is Dove. Good luck!
Great looking car! Can you do a driving video, my apologies if it’s already in there and I missed it.

Absolutely 0 problems with the Vanos unit.
No crazy rattles on the inside after the installation of new clips on the door panel.
The convertible top motor is completely operational and in a good shape with a rewiring kit installed by the previous owner. Some adjustments have to be done when lowering the convertible top to ensure a proper placement in the bay. No adjustments needed when putting it back up.

How is the Vanos unit? Any crazy rattles coming from the interior? How is the Convertible top motor and does the back of the top hit the tonneau cover?
