We are pleased to present this 1998 BMW E36 M3 Convertible finished in Estoril Blue Metallic over a Dove Grey leather interior. The second generation of BMW’s venerable M3, the E36 combined race-inspired M-Power engineering with everyday practicality and luxury. The convertible version was introduced in 1998 with only 2,252 manual transmission examples reportedly produced during its two-year production run. The car is said to have been under the care of its original owner before it was traded in at Fields BMW of Illinois where it was purchased by the current owner in 2016. Prior to sale, the vehicle was serviced by the dealer and thoroughly detailed inside and out. This desirable 5-speed E36 M3 convertible shows just over 61k miles on the odometer and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Illinois.
This M3 is finished in Estoril Blue Metallic (335) with a black convertible soft top. A removable color-matched hardtop will also accompany the sale. The seller notes some very light road-going wear on the front end, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. The E36 M3 can be differentiated from the standard 3-Series by its unique aerodynamic front and rear fascias, side skirts, aerodynamic wing mirrors, and M3 badges on the side door trim and trunk lid. This M3 retains its original 17” Style 23 “Contour” M-Double Spoke polished wheels, which are dressed in newer Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires said to have been mounted within the last two years.
The Dove Grey leather interior remains highly original and features power-adjustable sport seats, automatic climate control, cruise control, an onboard computer, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system. The leather-wrapped steering wheel features M tri-color stitching and sits ahead of a 160-MPH speedometer, an 8k-RPM tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, fuel economy, and coolant temperature. All gauges and accessories are said to be functioning properly and the seller notes that the front seat headrests have been previously replaced.
The E36 M3 is powered by an S52 3.2L inline-six engine which engine sends as much as 240 HP and 236 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a rare 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The only noted modification is an upgraded Dinan carbon fiber cold air intake, and the seller states that service records will be included covering the last four years of the current ownership. Some invoices are provided for reference in the photo gallery and there are no outstanding maintenance items reported at this time.
This sale will include some service records, the original owners manuals, a removable color-matched hardtop, and a clean title. As the E36 generation continues to appreciate, the M3 model is becoming a true collector’s item. Do not miss out on this nicely presented Estoril Blue Metallic convertible with a rare 5-speed manual transmission.
