We are pleased to offer this rare 1998 Bentley Continental T finished in Black over a luxuriously appointed interior with Soft Tan hides and Burr Walnut trim. Built from 1996-2003, the Bentley Continental T was offered as a sporting version of the Continental R and featured a shorter wheelbase, flared wheel arches, larger brakes, and a more powerful 6.75L turbocharged V8 engine.  One of 321 Continental T’s produced in total and only 50 left-hand-drive models for 1998, this example was purchased at an original cost of over $350k and debuted several notable changes for the model year. It is said to have been regularly maintained by Manhattan Motorcars throughout its life while being driven approximately 1,400 miles per year on average.  Currently showing just over 33k miles on the odometer, this rare and well-preserved Bentley Continental T is being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

This Continental is finished in Black accented by chrome trim, and the seller reports the car to have always been garage-kept and covered while never being subjected to rain or winter driving conditions.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. For the 1998 model year, the Continental T was updated with a distinctive chrome Matrix grille replacing the older vertical slat grille, as well as new chrome grilles located beneath the headlights.  Compared with the Continental R, the T also features a 4” shorter wheelbase and extended wheel arches.  The 18” 5-spoke wheels come dressed In Hankook Ventus ST tires dated from 2012/2013.  A matching full-sized spare is also included in the trunk.

Inside, the cabin has been decadently appointed with Soft Tan hides, black carpeting, and Burr Walnut veneers throughout.  Upon entry, the driver is greeted by specialized doorsills with plaques reading “Coachbuilt by Mulliner Park Ward”. The upper dashboard is wrapped in black leather and the perforated leather seats are accented by contrasting black piping.  Optional details include a Soft Tan trimmed steering wheel with wood veneers, a veneer door switch panel, a veneer dash with chrome instrument bezels, a Walnut gear knob, and Bentley logo inlays for the front capping rails.  An homage to Bentley’s racing history, the Continental T also features a unique red starter button located within the central panel of the dash. Driver amenities include multi-adjustable seats with 2-stage heating and 3-position memory, automatic air conditioning, drilled pedals, and power accessories.  An upgraded Kenwood radio has been installed and the seller confirms all accessories to be fully functional.

The 1998 Continental T is equipped with an upgraded version of the L-Series turbocharged 6.75L V8 engine which generates up to 420 HP and 650 lb.-ft of torque, an increase of 20 HP and 60 lb.-ft of torque over the previous model year.  The Continental T utilizes larger disc brakes compared with the R as well as modified shock absorbers and stiffer torsion bars for improved handling.  The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed automatic transmission allowing for acceleration from 0-60 MPH in approximately 6 seconds.  The power steering pump was replaced at 13k miles, the front brake pads were replaced at 25k miles, the spark plugs were replaced at 28k miles, and the steering rack was recently replaced at 33k miles.  The coolant temperature gauge is currently nonfunctional, although new OEM temperature sensors have been ordered from an authorized supplier and will be provided for the next owner to install.

This sale will include a set of two keys, a spare tire, and a clean title.  Staying true to Bentley’s sporting history while retaining an impeccable level of luxury and craftsmanship, this rare and highly collectible Continental T Mulliner is a unique and timeless choice for any discerning automotive connoisseur.

Everyone, we encourage everyone to put in their best and final offers in these last few minutes of the auction. To those not as familiar with the car given its rarity and uniqueness, here is a most recent sale comp of the same year car with similar mileage sold at Sotheby’s for $115,500 this March, 2021. Good luck with the bidding!

@Coachmule you are correct, while this car does not have a 'Mulliner' badge, as we noted below, all of these Continental Ts were effectively a custom version of the Continental R. Mulliner was a coachbuilder for Bentley, and not like AMG for Mercedes or M for BMW. Door sills say that it was coachbuilt by Mulliner Park Ward, so there is fairly little distinction of it being a Mulliner badged car or not. All Continental Ts post facelift in 1998 and on had more power and torque, and all Continental Ts are wide bodied cars, unlike the Rs. Hence, the official Mulliner badge is not much more than a plaque and trim options. As you can see in the spec sheet, most of these cars did not even charge customers extra for some of the options because at $350k in 1990s money, any option was available at your disposal.

I’ll be honest and say I don’t know much about this brand and options always wanted a Bentley but what concerns me is that people are commenting it’s not a this car isn't a "Mulliner". Mulliners were launched in 1999? I’m glad you addressed the tires two things I’m a freak about are tires and brakes but it seems you addressed them. Definitely a beautiful car the wife doesn’t drive much probably 100-200 miles a week Max. The interior looks ok anyone else shed some light on this car ?

@PheasantRun Please bid on the car with confidence. At the price you quote in your comment, the car will delivered fully detailed, buffed, polished, and rims reconditioned to brand new, in addition to a full set of brand new tires. The small road debris dots you see in the video will all be taken care of. Good luck with the bidding.

We have one day to go, everyone. I’m here to answer any questions people have. Seller is happy to engage in a conversation. Reserve is set very reasonably and in fact below what the recent sales of other Continental Ts indicate, so bid in confidence. Car overall is excellent, has been used a weekend cruiser and was always stored in a garage with a cover. It has two keys, tool kit, clean title and technically only two owners since the most recent owner drove it for only 150-200 miles in total in his year and half of ownership, effectively keeping it as a garage queen. As noted below, seller will provide a brand new set of tires to the winning bidder, which is about $2,500 value.

  • PheasantRun (registered bidder) 3 years, 5 monthsago

Looking at a British for sale site. This Bentley is listed for $105K. At that price the flaws should be addressed.

  • mikeammain (registered bidder) 3 years, 5 monthsago

@AbreuMotors you're right about the Mulliner specs, this car has them nearly all, but it isn't a Mullniner. It's a nicely optioned Continental T. The original Mulliners are branded as such. This isn't.

  • PCARMARKET 3 years, 5 monthsago

The seller has offered to provide a set of brand new tires to the winning bidder, valued at approximately $2,500.

Regarding the Mulliner, the definition varies as all Continental Ts were an upgraded sporty and even more unique version of the Continental R. While the official Mulliner cars count is around 23, there is very little that separates it from a any other post facelift Continental T (years 1998-2003). All Continental Ts were almost effectively a Mulliner car as they had the most desirable upgrades from the regular Continental R - such as wide body, shorter wheel base, more power, red starter button on the dash as standard, etc. In addition, some Bentley connoisseurs say that any Continental T with digits 25 in the VIN for digit five and six is or a technically a Mulliner car. Even the Le Mans Continental T, an even more rare car, is not much more than a trim and a name than anything. This level of value and brand dilution is evident in Continental Rs, that seem to have so many 1/10 or 1/5 cars, even though they built more than 1,000 Continental Rs over the years, significantly inferior to the T.

  • mikeammain (registered bidder) 3 years, 5 monthsago

this car isn't a "Mulliner". Mulliners were launched in 1999.
The plate "built by MPW" doesn't make it a "Mulliner"
Real Mulliner T's are rare and sought after. Yours is a standard Continental T

  • PheasantRun (registered bidder) 3 years, 6 monthsago

Thank you for the information provided. I did not make myself clear in asking the question regarding the rotors. Let me ask it another way. Are they within spec?
Regarding the tires, I know you are a well respected seller of automobiles and have seen a few pass through BAT that you offer. Those tires are TOO OLD to be driving any where.

  • AbreuMotors (seller) 3 years, 6 monthsago

This vehicle is in an excellent condition, has been regularly serviced over its lifetime, has always been in a garage with a cover, interior quality is 10/10 for its age, and exterior is probably 9/10 with minimal normal road condition use / debris. There are no major dings, scratches, or fixes on the car. All equipment works.

Rear suspension also works very well (it has adjustable suspension in the rear, when the car sits, rear drops, when you start up the car, rear rises to be more even with front). That functionality works perfect and no issues with the suspension.

Tires, albeit 8 years old, have a lot of tread left and are good for several thousand miles of local non high speed driving.

The interior and leather seats are overall in fantastic shape and look and feel barely used.

Gearbox shifts smooth with no jerky movements, very good transmission and no issues there either.

  • AbreuMotors (seller) 3 years, 6 monthsago

In addition the vehicle has the toolbox kit in the trunk, we have submitted two pictures to be added to the gallery.

  • AbreuMotors (seller) 3 years, 6 monthsago

Front brake rotors are 13.4 x 1.3 in. vented discs, rear are 13.4 x 0.5 in discs. Front discs are made of Micro-alloy, a state-of-the-art material with higher carbon content than standard discs. Each front disc has dual calipers! Stopping power is thus very impressive for a car its weight - some figures peg it between 127 feet and 139 feet from 60 mph to standstill.

  • AbreuMotors (seller) 3 years, 6 monthsago

@PheasantRun Will get back on rotors, need to measure or find out details
Last oil think was done just prior to me buying it so early 2020
Don’t know about brake flush but I have mineral oil for brakes that I will include with the sale. This Bentley uses mineral oil for braking system not regular brake oil
And yes A/C works great and blows cold .

  • PheasantRun (registered bidder) 3 years, 6 monthsago

What a beauty! A few questions. I noticed that the pads were changed. What is the measurements of the rotors as she sits. Last oil change? When were the brakes last flushed being an older car. A/C...Cold?
    Thanks!
