This 1997 Volkswagen Golf GL MkIII is powered by a turbocharged 1.8-liter inline-four paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and has been extensively modified with mechanical, cosmetic, and interior upgrades. Finished in Sequoia Green over a dark grey cloth interior, it features a Unitronic Stage 1.5 tune, custom turbo-back exhaust, Driveshaft Shop Stage 5 axles rated for up to 1,000 HP, Koni coilovers, AZEV wheels, custom bodywork, Recaro-style seats, a suede headliner, a custom sound system with a hidden Memphis Audio Bluetooth controller, and much more. Since it was last listed on PCARMARKET in 2023, this tastefully modified Golf has received a fresh oil change and a Brembo brake kit and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

This example received a glass-out respray in its factory Sequoia Green approximately seven years ago and features custom body modifications including the removal of the sunroof, rear wiper, and windshield washer nozzles. Additional exterior elements include European-spec headlights, OEM smoked taillights, an AP Design mono windshield wiper, Optiwerks ABT-style side skirts, and a third brake light delete. It rides on staggered 16” AZEV Type-A wheels wrapped in Nitto tires bearing 2019 date codes. The seller reports the paint remains in excellent condition overall, with noted imperfections including fading on the rear door handles, paint stress on the rear passenger-side door molding, rocker pinch weld damage from jacking, and a small scuff on the lower left front bumper. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, the cabin is equipped with dark grey cloth Recaro-style front seats and a matching MKIII Jetta split rear bench. Custom elements include green seatbelts, a suede headliner, a MK 3.5 “dimple” dashboard with a tri-spoke steering wheel, Black Forest Industries shift knob and boot, Audi TT aluminum pedals, and a Husco armrest. A factory radio delete panel is installed, though a custom sound system is integrated with Polk 6.5” speakers, a Memphis Audio Bluetooth controller with USB inputs, and a hidden 4-channel amplifier. A VDO boost gauge is mounted, and the airbags have been deleted. The odometer was reset to reflect mileage since the engine swap. The seller notes a dashboard rattle at idle due to urethane motor mounts.

Power comes from a turbocharged 1.8-liter inline-four engine sourced from a later Volkswagen model and fitted with a Unitronic Stage 1.5 tune, Forge diverter valve, Eurojet front-mount intercooler, aluminum radiator, and a custom 2.5” stainless steel turbo-back exhaust. Power is sent to the front wheels through an 02M 6-speed manual transmission paired with a new clutch and Driveshaft Shop Stage 5 axles/hubs rated for up to 1,000 HP. Bronze powder-coated components include the valve cover, intake manifold, custom catch can, and strut tower caps, complemented by a Dreadnought Customs hood liner. Supporting modifications include a shaved engine bay, partially hidden wiring using a Stancedubs harness, adjustable Koni coilovers, VR6 sway bars, a Neuspeed rear upper strut bar, and a relocated Optima Red Top battery in the trunk. The braking system has been further enhanced with the recent addition of a Brembo brake kit, supplementing prior upgrades such as VR6 front calipers, stainless-steel lines, and a rear disc conversion. Additionally, an oil change was recently performed in preparation for the sale.

This sale will include a car cover, factory all-season floor mats, OEM bumper lights, a hatch wing, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for checking out my auction! I’ve owned this car for the past two years, and it’s been meticulously cared for and always stored in an indoor garage. As you can see in the photos, this is a stunning example—super clean, beautifully built, fun turbo engine that puts a smile on your face every time you drive it. It’s truly turnkey and ready for its next chapter. Good luck with your bid!”
