In 1997, Mazda launched a limited-edition version of the NA Miata Roadster called the STO (Special Touring Option), finished in Twilight Blue Mica paint and equipped with model-specific 15” Enkei wheels, a Nardi leather shift knob, matching floor mats, and a numbered STO dash plaque. Designated as #651 of 1500 produced, this Miata shows just under 40k miles on the odometer and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Washington accompanied by a rare paint-matched hardtop and a dealer-installed rear luggage rack.
This Miata STO features special Twilight Blue Mica (12K) paint with a tan convertible soft top and a matching removable hard top. Exterior equipment includes pop-up headlamps, chrome door handles, color-keyed mirror caps, and a dealer-installed luggage rack mounted onto the rear trunk lid without drill holes. The seller notes some small paint chips have been touched up as well as a scratch on the hardtop and a minor scratch on the passenger side door. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. The 5-spoke 15” Enkei wheels are unique to the STO edition and come mounted with BFGoodrich G-Force Sport tires.
The cabin is upholstered in tan leather with a contrasting black upper dashboard, door toppers, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and center console. Amenities include an AM/FM/cassette stereo with a CD player and headrest speakers, power windows, power mirrors, intermittent wipers, a lockable glove compartment, and stainless steel scuff plates. The STO edition equips a Nardi leather shift knob, STO-branded floormats, and an individually numbered dashboard plaque.
Power is derived from a 1.8L DOHC 16-valve inline four-cylinder with multiport electronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 133 HP 114 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by a 5-speed manual transmission with a factory short-throw shifter. Performance features include a sport-tuned exhaust system with a stainless steel header, a four-wheel independent suspension, disc brakes at each corner, stability control, traction control, and ABS. Some maintenance history records are said to be available in addition to the CARFAX report.
This sale will include a clean title, some service documentation, an STO book, and associated sales literature.

@ShiftingCars please read the advert and previous comments, yes.
Is the luggage rack removable or is it permanently attached to the trunk lid?
How is the underside? Any rust? Any pics available?

@Cytoboy one of rhe owners was kind enough to keep good records. I do not have a window sticker but, I do have the original STO book and brochures. Again, very low miles, not many records to have been kept.....
@Cytoboy The car has virtually no miles so there is no abundance of service history. There is some, will clarify. The tires are new.. less than 300 miles. I'll have to see if I have the sticker, on my way to work soon. The car has never been damaged nor has it ever had any paint work. I also believe a recent oil service has been performed, again, will clarify. I have driven the car, with its lack of miles it starts, runs and drives as new. Clutch take-up is chatter and slip free, brake modulation and feel are perfect. ALL systems on the car function as designed. AC is cold.

@Porscheklaus - Greetings! The listing mentions “some maintenance records…”. Any more specifics regarding the service state of the car? Tire age? Any original documentation such as window sticker / purchase contract, etc? Any paintwork history to your knowledge? Many thanks to you.
@louispereznyc I'd drive it to Key West with absolutely no reservation.... right now. :)
@porscheklaus I'll consider. Is the car up to the challenge?
@louispereznyc 99212 Spokane Valley Washington. Minutes away from Spokane International. Airport pickup is available ....Fly in, drive home.... I would :) ROAD TRIP :)
@porscheklaus One other question - your zip code please for shipping estimate purposes. Thank you.
@porscheklaus Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I will join the bidding soon.
@louispereznyc I can assure you the cars soft top is "AS NEW", like the rest of the car. I simply don't have the needed help to remove it...not heavy, just cumbersome. I'll "try" to find a neighbor who can help me remove the top and get you a photo or two...
The luggage rack as it states in the advert, is attached to the deck lid WITHOUT holes having been drilled. It is simple to remove and reinstall with 4 allen bolts holding it in position. Removed from the car, one would never know it was ever there.
Bid in the amount of $4,000
@porscheklaus Do you have any photos of the car with the soft top in the up and down positions? Do you know if the luggage rack can be removed without harm to the decklid? Thanks
Bid in the amount of $3,750
Thanks for getting the additional photos up guys, appreciate it.

@ShiftingCars Sure, I can do that for you. I don't have a hoist so please bare with me on that. I'm also older...... so thanks in advance :) :) I'll try to get a few shots tomorrow. The small scratches may not show up very well but, I'll give it a go. Keep in mind Spokane has a high desert climate, most of the year it is very dry. We do get snow but, given the condition of the car I'd wager it's never seen it :) Stay tuned
Is that all of the photos? Any underside photos? Photos of the flaws? Paint?
Its a great little car... makes ya smile :) happy bidding.
