The original Honda Civic Type R (EK9) was introduced in 1997 and was the third Honda to wear the “Type R” badge following the NSX and Integra models. It is a high-performance variant of the 6th-generation Honda Civic hatchback and features a naturally aspirated B16B 1.6-liter inline-4 engine which made for one of the most powerful front-wheel-drive cars of its era. The car also offered a stiffer chassis and suspension, a lightweight interior, and a limited-slip differential as standard equipment. The car was produced in limited numbers primarily for the Japanese domestic market and has become one of the most sought-after JDM cars on the road. This launch year example comes finished in Vouge Silver Metallic and was recently imported to the U.S. from Japan. Showing just over 22k kilometers (13,670 miles) on the odometer, this Civic Type R is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.
This Civic is finished in Vogue Silver Metallic and features a rigid pressed steel monocoque bodyshell with seam welding which is unique to the Type R. Compared to the standard Honda Civic, the Type R also features a custom body kit with a front spoiler, side skirts, and a roof-mounted rear wing as well as red-colored Honda badges, thinner glass windows, and Civic Type R decals on the tailgate and quarter panels. The car rides on factory 15” seven-spoke light alloy wheels dressed in Michelin tires. The seller indicates this Civic was previously refinished in its original color and benefits from recent professional detailing as well as a 5-year ceramic coating.
The Type R’s cabin is stripped of sound-deadening material from the factory and comes with Recaro bucket seats upholstered in bright red fabric along with matching door panels and carpets. It also features a titanium shift knob, a leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel, sport foot pedals, a Type R badge on the center console, and a carbon fiber pattern instrument panel with a 10k-rpm tachometer and a 180 MPH speedometer. Other factory equipment includes power windows and mirrors, airbags, and an optional air conditioning system.
The original Type R derives up to 182 HP and 118 lb.-ft of torque from a naturally aspirated B16B 1.6-liter inline-four engine which was factory blueprinted and features special high compression low-friction pistons as well as hand-ported valves, a polished cylinder head, high-lift camshafts, lightweight connecting rods, and a custom balanced crankshaft. Power is sent to the front wheels through a special close-ratio 5-speed manual gearbox and a helical limited-slip differential. The suspension is comprised of double wishbones at the front and rear with shortened springs, stiffer dampers, thicker anti-roll bars, and strut braces. Stopping power comes from 282mm ventilated discs in front and solid 260mm discs in the rear along with an anti-lock braking system (ABS). Power steering is equipped as standard. The seller reports there are no outstanding maintenance items at this time.
This sale will include a clean title.

@sl430 to the best of my knowledge, it would not pass smog in CA. But there is a process to get this vehicle smog exempt.

@Leaf06 no rust on the floorboard so it’s just surface rust on the bottom
@jamesb18cjdm no rust James. Photos of the fenders, panels and floorboards should upload soon
@jamesb18cjdm Hi James, will upload photos of the quarter panels as well today
Very interested in this and awaiting more information about the rust spot condition from inside (underneath carpet) as well. Any pictures of the quarter panel leading edge where Hondas are known to rust?

@KMiller12 Thanks. Please do confirm when you can.
@sl430 it is a tiny dent, can try to fix it with paint less dent repair if the next owner wants on my behalf after the sale. It’s titled with a clean title from Washington. It is not currently registered in NY but it is 25 years old so should be able to register anywhere without much hassle but I can look into it deeper for you and get back to you about the smog test for CA
Thanks but just to confirm, it'll pass smog in CA? Also, can you confirm if that's a dent on the driver side door?
Is it currently registered in NY?
@sl430 car is titled and can be registered in all 50 states
@seller - is the car titled and registered? if so, which state? is it CARB legal in all 50 states?

@KMiller12 surface rust from the bottom **
@Leaf06 I’m afraid I’ll accidentally break the plastic clips off while removing the carpet so I’m going to wait until Monday to let my body shop guy do it. However taking a look underneath and feeling it through the carpet, it only seems like minor surface rust. Will confirm with you on Monday to double check and send a photo
@Leaf06 it was prior to the auction! I believe it is only surface rust. I will check later and add the pictures in for you
@seller - Do you have any pictures of the work performed in the repaint or was that prior to auction?
Can you add pictures of carpet underneath floormats?
Is the rust under on the floorboard surface or breaking through the other side?

@mad_max Hi Max, I do have the Japan auction sheet. I will have them upload it
@KMiller12 do you have Japanese auction sheet or any documentation to verify the milage?
Hi guys! I am the current owner of the vehicle. This car is a dream to drive and feels brand new every time I get in it. During my ownership it stayed indoors for it’s entirety and was not driven more than 100 miles. I had it imported through a very well trusted importer. Happy to answer all questions and assist however I can
