Introduced in 1995 marking the reintroduction of the SS nameplate after a 24-year absence, the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 SS is a special high-performance model modified by SLP (Street Legal Performance) with official approval from General Motors. Beginning with a fourth-generation Chevrolet Camaro Z28, the SS conversion by SLP included a re-tuned 5.7-liter LT1 V8 engine rated at 305 HP along with a host of optional SLP upgrades to choose from. This 1997 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 SS is a collectible 30^th Anniversary edition and is reportedly one of only 50 Black-finished 6-speed SS convertibles produced for the model year. In addition to the SLP/SS Alteration Package, it comes equipped with the optional Preferred Equipment 2 Package, a Hurst shifter, Dark Gray leather upholstery, a 200-watt Monsoon sound system, Twilight Sentinel headlamps, and 17” ZR-1 style wheels. The car was first registered in North Carolina and spent time in Florida and Illinois before being purchased by the seller from its fourth owner in June 2024. This rare Camaro Z28 SS Convertible is now being offered for auction with approximately 67k miles showing on the odometer.

The SS conversion by SLP included the installation of a unique composite hood with a functional air scoop and a revised decklid spoiler. This example is finished in Black with a matching power-operated convertible top. Equipment includes Twilight Sentinel headlamps, fog lights, dual electric sport mirrors, body side moldings, SS badging, dual rectangular exhaust tips, and 17” ZR1-style 5-spoke wheels with SS center caps. The car rides on BF Goodrich g-Force Sport Comp 2 tires from 2017. The seller notes the hood was refinished to address clear coat damage and the passer side rear quarter was refinished due to minor dents and scratches. The cabin features Dark Gray leather upholstery, a 6-way power driver’s seat, an SLP-installed Hurst shifter, power windows and door locks, remote trunk release, electronic speed control, remote keyless entry, a theft-deterrent alarm system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a 200-watt Monsoon sound system. The seller notes the sun visors have been replaced and the driver’s seat bolster has been repaired.

The SLP-tuned 5.7-liter LT1 V8 engine is equipped with a performance air intake system and high-flow exhaust manifolds. It delivers up to 305 HP to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission and a 3.42 Positraction rear axle. The car has been driven approximately 8k miles since the last owner’s purchase in 2014 and was serviced with a new clutch and pressure plate, radiator, water pump, serpentine belt, and spark plugs during this time. Under the seller’s ownership, the car was also serviced with a new thermostat, coolant level sensor, A/C compressor, an oil change, and an A/C system recharge.

This sale will include two keys, one remote key fob, the original plastic tonneau cover and storage bag, the original owner’s manuals, maintenance records from the previous owner and seller, a copy of the original window sticker, and a clean title.

According to the SLP Registry, Chevrolet only manufactured 50 Black, 6-speed SS/SLP Convertibles in 1997.”
