Available for auction is this 1996 Rover Mini Cabriolet finished in Nightfire Red over a grey cloth interior. Launched at the 1992 NEC Motor Show, the Rover Mini Cabriolet featured an open roof and extensive body strengthening to maintain its structural rigidity. The Cabriolets were produced on the same assembly line as the fixed roof variants and 1,081 examples are believed to have been produced according to the BMW archive. This 1996 example was imported to the U.S. under previous ownership and features a 1.3-liter inline four-cylinder engine, a color-matched body kit with fender flares, Recaro-style bucket seats, wood interior trim, and more. It is now being offered for auction by its seller showing approximately 35k kilometers (27k miles) on the odometer.
To create the convertible variant of the Mini, Rover reinforced the seat cross member and A-panel, and added a wider door sill over the existing sill providing an additional box section. The additional bracing resulted in the Cabriolet weighing in at about 150 lbs more than the fixed roof variant. This example is finished in Nightfire Red with gold pinstripes and a brand new matching red manually retractable soft top. The seller notes that the finish shows a few imperfections including some fading on the passenger fender, rock chips on the front bumper, some scuffing on the driver’s side skirt, and minor scratches in various areas. Details include a factory-equipped 12-piece body kit with fender flares and front and rear fog lamps, and a set of 13” 5-spoke wheels dressed in Yokohama tires from 2007.
Inside, the Recaro-style buckets and rear bench are trimmed in grey cloth along with the door panels. The floors are lined with black carpets, while wood trim accents the dashboard and door caps. The seller notes that the wood veneers show cracking in a few areas. Features include a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, a wooden shift knob, polished door sill plates, a heater, roll-up windows, an analog VDO clock, and a Kenwood AM/FM CD sound system.
Power comes from a 1,275cc inline four-cylinder engine with 10.1:1 compression and single-point fuel injection. The front wheels are driven by way of a close-ratio 4-speed manual transaxle. The Mini features four-wheel independent suspension, quick ratio rack and pinion steering, and power disc brakes. The seller states that there are no outstanding issues at this time and has provided a collection of TUV inspections from 2007 through 2020 which are available for reference in the gallery.
This sale will include a clean title.

Looks like the driver’s side door is not a direct color match? The rocker panels behind the doors— rust?
