Up for auction is this 1996 Porsche 993 Carrera Targa finished in Arena Red Metallic over a Grey partial leather interior. Marking one of only 462 U.S. examples built for 1996, this Carrera Targa is distinguished as being one of the most rarely seen 993 variants ever produced. Said to have been under the care of its original owner from new, this 993 is now being offered for auction out of Mississippi with approximately 145k miles showing on the odometer.
The Arena Red Metallic exterior on this 993 is said to have been completely refinished in 1998 following some cosmetic damage. Reported to have always been garage kept, the seller indicates the paint to be in great condition with only minor rock chips and 2 small dings on top of the right fender (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). This 993 generation Targa debuted for the first time a sliding glass roof instead of the traditional pop-out Targa panel, which eliminated the hassle of storing the top. The Targa top motors were replaced within the last few years and the factory original 2-piece Targa wheels are equipped which come dressed in Bridgestone Potenza tires.
This 993 features a well-presented Grey partial leather interior which has been updated with a Porsche Classic Bluetooth/navigation Radio. Factory options include an 8-way power adjustable driver's seat and automatic speed control. All gauges, electrical components and accessories are stated to be fully functional, the air conditioning system was refreshed a few years ago and the seller will also be including the original 6-disc CD changer with the sale.
Power comes from a 3.6 L flat-six engine rated at 282 HP. A 6-speed manual transmission drives the rear wheels making for a 0-60 time of under 6 seconds. All routine maintenance is said to be up to date with a recent fluid and filter service as well as a new battery. The seller does note that secondary air injection/cylinders 1-3 need reworking. Partial service records dating back to the original purchase will also be included.
This sale will be accompanied by original books and tools, one master key, the original 6-disc CD changer and a clear title. Do not miss out on your opportunity to own one of the rarest 993's on the market.

@PorscheMan3 The secondary air injection fault is a common service procedure. Most people use the " Sea Foam" method to clear out the channels.

@armand67gt When the car was about two years old, I went to an afternoon movie and parked my car away from all other cars in the parking lot. When I came out of the movie, I discovered that someone had “keyed “ the car all around. A professional paint restorer kept the car for about three months to repaint the car in its original color.
The Arena Red is nice. What kind of cosmetic damage led to a full repaint? Thank you
@Edsaircool The check engine light will come on to indicate the issue with the secondary air injectors, but no other problems with lights on the cluster. A prospective buyer had a PPI done this week and there was no indication of any rust issues. Thanks for your interest.
@SPIDER48 Thanks for your interest..The car I has never been in a flood.

@rwilliams Thank you for the prompt response.
@Goyvesgo Vehicle operates fine. The technician who has done most of the work on the car told me that I “babied the cartoo much” so a carbon buildup occurred.
Hello, relating to the comments "The seller does note that secondary air injection/cylinders 1-3 need reworking". Do you have an estimate and information on the diagnosis? How does the vehicle operate currently? Thank you.

@PCARMarket, any way you can assist the seller (@rwilliams) with getting his video of the top and the sunshade operation posted to this site for all to see? Thanks.

@njgarrett Sorry, but I have no idea how to do that.
Any way you could post a pictures if the headers where each connect to the block?
Pcajiri,
I have a video of the top opening and closing. If you will send me an email address I will send it to you.
No oil leaks. Very little wind noise when top is closed. The shade and the top both work. I will try to take a video but I’m not much of a techie so I’m not sure how to send a video to this message site. Thanks for your interest.
Anyway to get a video of the top in operation and the sunshade in operation
