Marking the final generation of the air-cooled 911, this 1996 Porsche 993 Carrera Cabriolet was ordered in the highly desirable shade of Speed Yellow along with a black full leather interior including contrasting Speed Yellow accents and optional Sport Seats. It also features a 6-speed manual transmission, optional 17” Cup 2 wheels, Litronic headlights, and Digital Sound Package. The car is said to have been cared for by three owners since new and has been in the hands of a longtime PCA member for the past 6 years. Supported by a collection of maintenance records and recent services, this 993 is now being offered for auction out of North Carolina showing approximately 53k miles on the odometer.

One of the all-time great Porsche colors and perhaps the most iconic shade of the era, this Carrera was ordered in a premium Speed Yellow finish. A new black cabriolet top has been installed along with new rear quarter stone guards and clear paint protection film over the entire front end. The factory 17” Cup 2 wheels are fitted with optional colored center crests and new Michelin Pilot Sport tires. The seller notes this was evidently a weekend car and was kept away during rainy days, additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is trimmed in premium black full leather upholstery with exclusive Speed Yellow contrasts on the parking brake handle, shift knob, and instrument rings. Other factory options include an onboard computer, electric height-adjustable Sport Seats, Litronic headlights, and Digital Sound Package with a Porsche CDR-210 radio. The seller states the convertible top mechanism was rebuilt with new actuators at a cost of $10k along with the replacement of the cloth top material. Cuts in the rear interior panels suggest a roll bar may have been installed at some point.

Rated at 272 HP, the air-cooled 3.6-liter flat-six engine drives the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. The maintenance history provided on the CARFAX report includes an A/C system flush and recharge in 2020 and a new starter, oxygen sensor, and valve cover gaskets in 2022. The seller adds that a rigorous inspection was recently completed by Import Motor Werks of Cary, North Carolina, and all systems were found to be working properly.

This sale will include service records and a clean title.

@mmazzi that's correct. The entire front clip has PPF.

  • mmazzi (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

@MCMotorcars The whole front of the car is XPel film that is the difference for the readings

  • chizchiz (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

@MCMotorcars Were you able to get paint meter readings?

  • MCMotorcars (seller) 2 yearsago

@KonaKEvin The RollBar that was installed early in this example's history was a two-point basket handle (aesthetic) rollbar, not the full race four-point rollbar. The IMW PPI did not produce any evidence of track use.

The 1996 to 1998 993 has 285 hp as it got the Varioram engine. 272 hp was was on the 1995 MY non Varioram engines only. Here the Varioram is clearly visible (silver cast induction system above the engine)

@chizchiz The rear spoiler motion is a bit slower on this example than on prior 993 Gen examples that we’ve sold. It functions as intended with the full range of articulation .The rubber spoiler skirt is brand new.

  • chizchiz (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

Any comment/thoughts on the rear spoiler noise as noted in the inspection?

  • MCMotorcars (seller) 2 yearsago

@Curleyjoe This is an extremely clean/solid example. The most recent owner was OCD relative to the upkeep of this 911. No issues w/ the clutch or shifting effort No rear seal leak either. The only minor leak is on the valve cover gaskets. Negative on the firewall door hinge/bracket looseness.

    We’ve sold 8-10 993 Gen 911’s. We’re very familiar with these conditions.

  • Curleyjoe 2 yearsago

Hi great color 993 Cab. How is clutch and hydraulic feel of pedal??…being the original clutch and rear seal. 2nd question…can you confirm that there is no clicking noise when opening and closing doors. 1996 993’s have a common issue is with the bracket weld where the door check rod attaches, cracks behind the inner firewall panel; it’s expensive fix to repair each side if body weld is broken

    Thanks

  • MCMotorcars (seller) 2 yearsago

@BB This is accurate. The base seat design offered slim side bolsters. These seats were an upgrade and considered to be the mid-level seats.

  • BB (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

Just going by my fading memory, when I ordered my last 97 993, I believe the seats with the larger side bolsters like the ones on this car were in fact referred to as “sport seats”. Then there were the “hard shell sports seats”, which was a different option.

  • GT3er (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

The car does not have sport seats, as indicated by seller's comments.

  • Swqv0803 (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

Is it possible to get a list of the option codes? They are not readable in the under hood photos. Anyone know what “full leather” adds on a 993. Thanks

@artichoke This Example runs/shifts/idles/brakes flawlessly. It also tracks as straight as an arrow. No check engine lights. The most recent owner addressed the carbon build up in the intake. The most prior owner is Obessive Compulsive when it comes to the maintenance of his vehicles.

  • artichoke (registered bidder) 2 yearsago
