Finished in Grand Prix White over black, this 1996 Porsche 993 Carrera Coupe features a Tiptronic 4-speed shiftable automatic transmission and several customizations including RS-style splitters, a C2S rear decklid, and 18” three-piece wheels. A lifelong California car driven regularly by its current owner since 2010, this 993 is now being offered for auction.
This Carrera Coupe is finished in Grand Prix White and has been customized with RS-style front splitters, a split-grille Carrera S (C2S) rear decklid, a “basket handle” rear spoiler, and a body-colored rear model designation. Other equipment includes projector headlamps with washers, integrated fog lights, a speed-activated rear spoiler, dual exhaust outlets, clear fender stone guards, an electric sunroof, and black Porsche-branded brake calipers mounted behind 18” three-piece wheels. The seller notes some areas of the car have received paintwork based on meter readings. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report showing damage to the left in 2012 and minor damage to the front in 2016.
The black leather interior includes 8-way power-adjustable front seats, Porsche-branded floor mats, a black leather gear selector, and a four-spoke steering wheel with Tiptronic shift buttons. Other accessories include power windows and mirrors, automatic climate control, cruise control, a central locking system, an analog quartz clock, and an aftermarket Alpine stereo. The seller notes an aftermarket brake handle and leather shift boot has been installed.
Featuring a VarioRam resonance induction system, the air-cooled 3.6-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 282 HP to the rear wheels through a 4-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. Standard features include multi-link rear suspension, power steering, and power-assisted brakes with ventilated discs. A check engine light on the dashboard is said to be related to secondary air injection (SAI) issues and the car does not pass California smog tests at this time.
This sale will include a clean title. The CARFAX report shows a potential odometer rollback in 2004, although this may have resulted from a clerical error.

@Hnguyen7986 I recommend a full rebuild based on the mileage / overall condition and my experience as an engine builder. If someone doesn’t have the budget for one of my engines that is ok. I still recommend they bid on the car as someone is going to get a great deal. There are plenty of shops out there who will accommodate whatever level of repair a client wants to dictate to them. In most situations with SAI issues you can temporarily fix by cleaning ports in heads and cam towers and essentially do a “top end”. I recommend that bidders on a tight budget reach out to various service shops and inquire on what it might cost them for that type of repair. If someone is looking to do a build with me and use this as a donor they are welcome to reach out and discuss.

@tyroneattheraces and others interested. I want to be very clear. This vehicle is being sold “AS-IS” the pictures are reflective of its physical condition and included parts. We have not done any diagnostics on this vehicle. Owner was told by another shop there were codes for SAI and that was causing CEL. The car is structurally sound and an ideal donor car for someone who wants to do a build. If I’m working on this car it will be a full engine rebuild which is likely a 2025 start date based on current schedule. If the winning bidder is a CA resident I will act as intermediary between buyer and seller. I will not be retailing this car to a CA resident. No smog will be provided.

Guessing there are some leak down/compression numbers available on this given the current owner is choosing to move on rather than fix. Could you please share? Could you also see what the plugs look like if you have photos?
Your photos without the under trays are very helpful, thank you. Would I be correct assuming oil leaks are from the three most common areas? Were the trays removed while you were assessing the work required and come with the car (they are not missing)?

@hadokenny I am selling this vehicle on consignment for a local guy in the neighborhood. He is not in financial position to make the repairs. He has used this a a daily driver (3days a week) for the last 10yrs. The value of these cars, cost of ownership etc has changed dramatically in 10yrs… The funds from this car will help him purchase a modern commuter car. The current owner is a social worker, doing important work in the city of Los Angeles, so bid high and let’s get him a great new / reliable daily driver!
The next owner can make the decision about restoration / engine rebuild / manual gearbox conversion, etc. They can take it to the shop of their choice, or can reach out to discuss getting on my schedule.

Curious what the reason is for not fixing the secondary air injection/SMOG issue prior to listing it for auction especially for a California car? Seller is a reputable shop. Hard to think of reasons why they wouldn't want to tackle it to achieve best outcome for the auction.
