This 1996 Land Rover Defender 90 300 Tdi is the subject of a custom restoration undertaken by a marque specialist in France about two years ago, before it was imported to the U.S. in 2024. The truck was fully disassembled, stripped, and refurbished with new paint and protective coatings, upholstery, a Safety Devices roll cage, an Exmoor Trim soft top, 16” Sawtooth alloy wheels, a new turbocharger, a new exhaust, engine seals, brakes, shocks, rebuilt axles, and a new ZF 4HP22H automatic gearbox. Thoroughly reconditioned while preserving its classic characteristics, this Defender 90 is now being offered for auction out of California.

The restoration process begins with a full disassembly of the vehicle, including the roof, doors, front fenders, hood, interior, and running gear. Each body component was carefully treated, particularly the chassis, which was stripped, sandblasted, primed with phosphate primer, sealed with cavity wax, and painted in gloss black to prevent corrosion. Various components were replaced, including the windshield, front grille, rear half-doors, lights, mirrors, wipers, stainless-steel hardware, and rubber seals. The exterior was refinished in matte black and fitted with a matching Safety Devices roll cage and an Exmoor Trim soft top. It rides on gloss black 16” Sawtooth alloy wheels with Goodyear Wrangler MT/R and a matching rear-mounted spare.

The cabin features reupholstered black vinyl and cloth front seats, new inward-facing rear bench seats, a replacement two-spoke steering wheel, and a center console for the automatic gear selector. Other accessories include new instrument dial frames, floor mats, a black rubber cargo mat, manual roll-up windows, and an aftermarket Pioneer stereo. The odometer is inaccurate, and the vehicle’s true mileage is unknown.

During the restoration, the 2.5-liter 300Tdi turbodiesel inline-four was refurbished with a new turbocharger, intake, exhaust, radiator, oil cooler, and engine seals. All four wheels are driven through a replacement 4-speed ZF 4HP22H automatic gearbox with a dual-range transfer case and a locking center differential. New springs and shock absorbers have been installed, and the brake system was rebuilt with new calipers, pads, and discs.
