Among the rarest and most sought-after versions of BMW’s iconic M3 sports car, the E36 M3 GT was produced in a limited series of 356 examples for the European market as a homologation special for FIA-GT and IMSA GT racing. It came finished exclusively in British Racing Green paint and features an aggressive aerodynamic package, aluminum doors, 17” forged alloy wheels, Amaretta cloth-trimmed sport seats, track-focused suspension, and a revised S50B30 engine rated at 295 HP. Accompanied by an extensive binder of documentation and service history, this 1996 BMW M3 GT is now being offered for auction out of New Jersey with approximately 41k miles showing.
Compared to a standard E36 M3, the GT version features lightweight aluminum doors and an aerodynamic package with an adjustable front splitter and a rear wing. All GT’s came finished in British Racing Green (BMW Individual, 312) and equipped with 17” M Double Spoke forged alloy wheels. The seller indicates the example’s hood and front bumper were refinished to address signs of road wear. Detailed images and paint meter readings are provided in the gallery.
The cabin features heated, manually adjustable Vader sport seats upholstered in Mexico Green Nappa leather and Anthracite Amaretta cloth upholstery with matching door panels and rear seats. Accessories include carbon fiber trim pieces, a three-spoke M Sport steering wheel, red seatbelts, BMW Motorsport door sills, and a limited-edition plaque mounted above the glovebox. The driver is also provided with power windows and mirrors, air conditioning, a sunroof, and a stereo system.
The M3 GT is powered by a 3.0-liter S50B30 inline-six engine featuring a revised intake manifold, larger camshafts, and a BMW Motorsport oil pan. Up to 295 HP and 238 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. The GT comes with stiffer springs and dampers than the standard M3 as well as a lowered ride height and a front strut tower brace. A collection of European service invoices is included in the sale along with the original stamped maintenance booklet.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, service records, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “One of the cleanest, unmolested, lowest mileage, M3 GTs to ever hit the market.”

Any recent service records?
Does it need anything?

A very special car indeed. Surprised BMW allowed a sunroof on this model though.

Well, this is the real deal- the Euro engine, and the GT trim. Still a lot of room to go.
@Jimbo1907 appreciate the comment! This is rare indeed.. we’ve had a few of these over the years and this one is definitely the best of the best. When people walk in to the showroom, they trip over Ferraris and Porsches to get to it
The headliner replacement is easy. Any competent trim shop can do it- I had my 840Ci done and out the door for $400. One day.
This is a rare bird, indeed. A couple of hours in the driver's seat would indeed put a smile on your face.

@txagmx5 We’re waiting on the material to come from Europe, arriving Wednesday, and hopefully will be completed by end of day. Thanks again
Thanks. What's the typical fix for the headliner? New one from BMW is now quite expensive. But once the foam backing gives way, I understand the material needs to be replaced.
@txagmx5 yes, happened while taking pictures. Will be completed Wednesday.
Sagging headliner?
Thanks all the wonderful emails and comments!
We’re here to answer any questions you may have. Also, the car is available to view any day before the end of the auction. We welcome any PPI’s.
Thanks in advance!
Wow, what a special/gorgeous car!
@GrpNorCalBMWguy I think the US version (Lightweight), the oil pan came separately, the Euro M3 GT, it came standard. I could be off, but I remember that being the case. Thanks
Special car! Does it have the M3 Lightweight engine oil pan?
