Up for auction is this 1996 BMW E36 M3 finished in Estoril Blue over a Black leather interior with wood veneers.  Purchased by its current owner in 2016 at 95,787 miles, this M3 has since undergone a long list of refurbishments and mechanical improvements to bring the car up to excellent driving standards.  Now showing 98,691 miles on the odometer, this well-maintained E36 is being offered by its seller in Connecticut accompanied by original tools, manuals, and a clean title.

The eye-catching Estoril Blue finish is said to be in good overall condition and the seller reports that this car has been garage-kept for most of its life (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). Carfax shows minor damage to the front end, however, the seller states that there were no significant signs of repair work after having the car professionally inspected.  Details specific to the M3 include revised front and rear valences, side skirts, and mirrors.  This example features an optional rear spoiler as well as BMW Style 24 wheels which were installed under the current ownership.

The Black leather interior is reported to be in very nice shape, although the driver’s seat shows typical signs of wear.  Noteworthy features include “M3” logo door sills and wood trim on the center console, dashboard, door panels, shifter, and handbrake lever.  This example is equipped with the Luxury Package, heated and power operated seats, a sunroof, and power door locks with keyless entry.  The seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.

This E36 carries a naturally aspirated 3.2 L S52 inline 6-cylinder engine which sends 240 HP and 236 lb.-ft to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transmission.  The following maintenance items were addressed at the corresponding mileages to keep the car in top running condition:

  • 60k-Spark Plugs and Coil Packs
  • 70k-Motor and Transmission Mounts
  • 80k-Trans And Differential Fluid
  • 92k-Spark Plugs and Lower Control Arm Bushings
  • 95k-Brake Pads and Rotors
  • 96k-Intake Boot, Serpentine Belt, Tie Rods, A/C Recharge, Water Pump

The following upgrades and service items were also carried out by Autosport Fabrication in September of 2018:

  • Rogue Engineering Short Shift Kit
  • Rogue Engineering Strut Brace
  • Delrin Front Control Arm Bushings
  • O2 Sensor
  • Air Filter
  • BIMMERWORLD Spherical Rear Trailing Arm Bushings
  • Ground Control Adjustable Camber Arms
  • Full Brake Fluid Flush With SRF
  • Upgrade to Z3M Fan
  • Bled Cooling System
  • New Window Clips
  • Transmission Fluid Changed
  • Bosch Battery
  • Corner Balance

This sale will include a set of 3 keys, owner’s manuals, a mostly complete toolkit, and a spare tire.  If you're in the market for a classic stick-shift BMW, this Estoril Blue M3 makes an excellent choice.

@1CG I am no expert, but the paint experts who have seen the car said it is as close to a factory job as one would want. This car turns heads and in 39 minutes I hope to hand this over to a new happy owner. Happy Thanksgiving all!

@MXStyles the car looks great in the pictures, can you see any difference in color or orange peel in person when looking at the fenders compared to the doors?

@MXStyles The hood VIN is just underside of the hood under the rubber/insulation near the front left corner of the car, the front bumper VIN is below the grill. The front fender VINs are in the middle of the fender near the bolts. Can you please verify if they match, or at least if it says DOT-R, meaning it is a factory BMW part used for replacement

  • MXStyles (seller) 3 years, 7 monthsago

@jdaigle VINs tags are on the doors and trunk. I was not able to find one on the hood, although a tech friend of mine wasnt sure if one would be there. From the looks of the paint meter, there is a good chance the hood was replaced at some point long before my ownership.

@MXStyles Are all the VINs matching, front bumper, hood, fenders, doors, etc?

Morning, P Car just added some of the paint meter pictures, looks like the hood may of been sprayed at some point in its life, but a top end body shop said it was a very nice job.

Gorgeous car. Meticulous seller. Someone will be getting a spectacular vehicle. E36’s are probably one of the best sub 50K investments in the auto world right now.

I had a question come in regarding the MCS coil over suspension, it is currently being replaced with an OEM set up, that will increase the ride height and return the car to a more OEM stance. I planned to track the car, but it is simply too nice. If you win the auction and are still interested in the MCS set up, we can connect.
