One of just over 2,000 examples sold in North America during a four-year model run, this 1994 Porsche 968 Cabriolet comes finished in Grand Prix White and equips a 6-speed manual transaxle along with a 3.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It was acquired by the current owner on PCARMARKET in 2022 and has since undergone a range of services including new tires and convertible top maintenance. Showing approximately 77k miles on the odometer, this 968 is now being offered for auction out of Illinois.
The open-top 968 underwent a complicated production process with each model beginning as a coupe and then being converted into a cabriolet by ASC of Heilbronn, Germany, before returning to the Porsche factory at Stuttgart for final assembly. This example is finished in Grand Prix White with matching body side moldings, a black cabriolet top, and 17” Cup wheels dressed in newer Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season tires. A minor paint scratch is noted on the rear bumper, additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The black partial leather includes electrically adjustable front seats and a newly installed set of OEM Porsche-branded floor mats. A new OEM center console lid has also been installed by the current owner. Other accessories include automatic climate control, cruise control, power windows and mirrors, an analog quartz clock, a locking glove box, and an aftermarket Bluetooth stereo. The gauges are said to have been rebuilt by the previous owner in 2019, and the seller confirms all instrumentation and accessories are working properly.
As much as 236 HP and 225 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels from a 3.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine paired with a 6-speed manual transaxle. The previous owner reported the clutch, flywheel, cross shaft, pressure plate bolt, exhaust gasket, and exhaust seal ring were all replaced at 73,356 miles. The current owner has driven less than 1,500 since their purchase in July of 2022 and oversaw the replacement of the knock sensor, an oil service, wheel alignment, mass airflow sensor cleaning, and installation of a new battery.
This sale will include the original owner’s manuals, a toolkit, an air pump, a car cover, a battery charger, some documentation, and a clean title.

I always get all my cars checked out annually and the timing belt has never been brought up as a maintenance item that needed to be serviced.
Of course Porsche recommends changing belts 4-5
Years same as Ferrari. Inspection of the belts for cracks is a good indication. Many cars with cam belts last for 50k miles. Every one has an option on this.

Honestly if I was selling a car that looks as Clean as this one I would have spent the money doing those services probably would get a lot higher sales price. Thanks
@luis.seneriz Not having any service records for the last timing belt and water pump change is not a good thing. I wouldn’t be driving this car any distance without having them replaced. A visual inspection of the T-Belt isn’t enough. Porsche service recommends that Belts get changed every 4-5 years regardless of millage

@luis.seneriz Good Morning Luis, I will do my best to answer all of your questions. Congrats on purchasing your other two Porsches and I'm sure they are fun cars to drive. In my opinion, there is no reason that this car should not be able to make a long drive to Houston. I've had it checked out and had any major needed service and repair completed since I bought it. It runs great and everything in the car works properly.
The convertible top works great. It opens and closes with no issues. In the 968, in order to open the top, you need to take the tool (I have both tools in the center console) and unlatch the top and then press the button for the top to open. The part where you unlatch it on either side has a small plastic cover which is just a non functional plastic cover. Those two small plastic covers have been missing since I bought the car and according to MPC Porsche they are longer available to purchase. Not having the plastic covers doesn't affect the operation of the top.
I have no data on the timing belt. I bought the car last year here on Pcarmarket and have had it checked out by MPC just like all of my other cars and they didn't mention anything about the timing belt needing to be replaced.
This car would make a great addition to anyone's collection as a great reliable fun convertible. I'm sad to have to sell it but I need to make room for my new one that I just purchased.

I really like this car. My other two are are a early 99 996 coupe that I bought from a dealer in Wisconsin and I drove home 1300 miles non stop 3 years ago. I bought a turbo coupe 2003 here last April for my birthday and I drove it from California 1698 miles non stop. So here are my questions. Would you have any concerns driving this car as it stands to Houston, two in the service receipts it says that the top latch is no longer available from porsche, does the top works, just explain the issue, I’m not to familiar with the 968s. One of my trusted mechanics told me to ask when was the last documented timing belt service. He said that no by mileage but by age a bad belt could cause catastrophic damage. I would definitely like to add a convertible to my toy collection. Thanks

@richjs43 Good Morning, I have not had the steering rack work done since it was a recommendation by them based on my question to them what does the car need to make it absolutely perfect car like my other Porsches. The car drives great and no suspension issues at all.

@JakeH Good Morning Jake, please look at pics 77-82 for the receipts from MPC. I’m selling this car to make room for Cayman S that I just purchased. I’m not happy about selling this car but have to make room for the new one. This car runs great and everything works properly in the car. In my opinion it’s very hard to find a 968 Cabriolet in as good condition as this car. Please let me know if you anymore questions.
