Equipped with a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle and an air-cooled 3.6-liter flat-six engine, this 1993 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Cabriolet is said to have undergone a Turbo-style body conversion in California in the early 1990s. It features wide steel fenders and bumpers, upgraded 911 Turbo brakes, Speedline-style wheels, a tea tray rear spoiler, an aftermarket exhaust, and a performance DME chip. Recently purchased by the seller from its previous owner of 20 years, this Turbo-style 964 Cabriolet is now being offered for auction out of Connecticut with approximately 55k miles showing on the odometer.

This 964 was refinished in its original color of Black after being modified with wide steel Turbo fenders, bumpers, and a tea tray rear spoiler. Equipment includes a black power-operated convertible top, integrated front fog lights, power mirrors, a “Turbo 3.6” decklid badge, and red brake calipers mounted behind 18” RH Speedline-style wheels. The seller notes the front tires are new and new rear tires are included with the sale. Some minor cosmetic imperfections are noted around the body. The seller adds that the car was recently treated to paint correction and a lifetime ceramic coating. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The two-seater Classic Grey partial leather interior includes deviated black carpets, a leather-four spoke steering wheel, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, carbon fiber dashboard trim, silver gauge faces, Turbo logo floor mats, and an aftermarket Alpine stereo. The seller notes the power convertible top requires manual assistance to fully retract back, although the electronic latching mechanism works properly. The rear spoiler warning light is also present on the dashboard due to the fixed tea tray spoiler.

The air-cooled 3.6-liter M64 flat-six engine is paired with a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle delivering a factory-rated output of 247 HP and 228 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels. The engine has been modified with an aftermarket exhaust, a performance chip, and a cone-style air filter. The brakes have also been upgraded with 911 Turbo calipers and cross-drilled rotors. The seller notes the car underwent a recent oil service and wheel alignment, and the original exhaust is included in the sale.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a car cover, and a Porsche Production Specifications Certificate.

The seller would like you to know: "Hello. I recently purchased the car from a fellow shop owner that was a mechanic that has owned the car for over 20 years! I had been trying to purchase this car for 5 years and unfortunately health issues forced the sale. He advised me from the previous owner that this car was special and was a widebody turbo clone conversion done in California in the early 90’s. The car was built to resemble a car Porsche never built, a widebody turbo. I can tell from the spot welds and my magnet that this had factory widebody quarter panels and fender replaced. This is not a fiberglass kit. I also spoke to the original owner and he said he heard of this special widebody Porsche and purchased it in California. See the Carfax it spent its early years out there . It has the turbo brakes, suspension and aftermarket RH speed line wheels with spacers. The car was never driven much as you can see. Only reason for sale is I received an allocation on a new Porsche. Maybe someone out there in the California area /LA remember this car."

@mdersr The engine has not been re-gasketed so yes there are areas where the is oil seepage but no major oil gushing leaks. I have heard that these all have oil leaks, LOL.

  • mdersr (registered bidder) 3 monthsago

with the lower engine cover off is there any oil leaks?

It has 2 tonneau covers for the top once its in the open position. The only service records are stamped in the owners manual & is attached in the pics. The previous owner owned a mechanic shop and did his own service and didn't save records unfortunately. I just did a full oil service & 4 wheel alignment. The car was actual rarely driven under the previous owner & stored it more than he drove it.

  • eurocol (registered bidder) 3 monthsago

Does it have the tonneau cover for the hood?
    Any service records??

  • Vwman978 (seller) 3 monthsago

@william Hi William, there is a photo attached with option codes and is the under hood sticker and also the sticker placed in the owners manual that matches. Good point about the 964 RSR Wheels!

    Very cool car
RH wheels indeed are very high-quality replica of Speedline
As this car still have the narrow rear control arms and wide body, you can even remove the spacers and add Porsche 964 RSR style wheels

About code 09991, do you have a picture of the option sticker under the front hood?

  • Vwman978 (seller) 3 monthsago

@MaikoR No worries,it is stated in the ad but I will glady describe them. They are all made by a company called RH, made in Germany. They are 3 piece wheels I believe. Very high quality but NOT the original Speedline wheels. The top releases with the button but you do have to help it back & raise it forward. I have not had a chance to check why its doing that but does open & close completely and latches with the switch. From the FVD website:

The RH Speedline Style wheel is a period correct replica for any air-cooled Porsche model. It is a three-piece modular wheel with a cast center and spun aluminum inner and outer barrels ( high gloss polished and clear painted ). The center is painted in a silver metallic paint and clear-coated for a durable shine. The inner barrel is silver anodized while the outer lip is high-polished and then clear coated to protect the shine for a maintenance free finish.

    German-Made and TUV Approved.

@henryr I have not seen the phone, I thought it was interesting because I haven’t seen that portion of the center console in any other 964 cabs
    Before.

  • MaikoR (registered bidder) 3 monthsago

I assume the rims are replicas? Don’t see any Porsche Markings, also does the top work ok? Sorry if you answered these already, thanks

  • henryr (registered bidder) 3 monthsago

my 964 speedster had the phone option. is the phone there?

  • Vwman978 (seller) 3 monthsago

@Maggio.1 Yes, it is an original cab. Clean title, no accidents. I have the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

  • Maggio.1 (registered bidder) 3 monthsago

@Vwman978 is it an original cabriolet?? Sorry I got confused in your comment!! The car has a clean title??

  • Vwman978 (seller) 3 monthsago

Hi. I just uploaded the pics of the factory muffler & I believe resonator. I believe the catalytic converter is still on the car. I will check tonight. The car is actual away for the winter stored on my lift & not currently being driven. The top was only put down for the pics & video. I never drive my cars once the first snow flies, LOL. I will upload pics from the summer with the top up. I do not know California smog requirements so I cannot comment but the 2 original exhaust pieces will be included in the sale.

Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.

  • sportscarguy3 (registered bidder) 3 monthsago

Interesting Porsche, certainly sounds good with the modified exhaust
For us here in California. I’m wondering If the catalytic converters are still installed, and if you believe it would pass California smog emissions as it sits now, with the modified exhaust?
Also curious as to why there are very few if any pictures of the Porsche with the top up from a distance
The only pictures showing the top are close-ups of partial edges of the convertible top showing
Also it’s clearly winter with snow on the ground wondering why you’re not driving the car with the top up
    Thank you

You dream it. They build it. The Porsche Sonderwunsch (special request) arm of the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur and Porsche Classic departments take personalisation to the highest level. Almost anything is possible when it comes to creating a custom Porsche . This 964 has the 09991 build option for the Sonderwunsch Program. I have reached out to Porsche classic to inquire about what options this car had as part of the Sonderwunsch & I was advised they did not keep good records back then,LOL and they had no way of saying what was original or added. I notice the white gauges, there is a custom center console piece it seems that mounts a cell phone I have not seen in other cars & the carbon fiber trim. Can the car have gone thru the widebody conversion after the sale thru the Sonderwunsch? The original owner I spoke with said the car has always looked like that & purchased it in California because it was a widebody.

  • Vwman978 (seller) 3 months, 1 weekago

It is a Private sale. Ryan Friedman was going to consign the vehicle originally. He believed it was an American Roadster and after determining it was a conversion & not an original Roadster, he decided it was not the right vehicle for them. I was unfamiliar with Porsche's at the time & thought it was an American Roadster per the Carfax.

  • Singer2020 (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

did you purchase from Ryan Friedman Motor or consigned by them? it says the seller is private
