In a legendary automotive collaboration, Mercedes enlisted the help of Porsche to re-engineer the W124 platform using a large 5.0-liter V8 borrowed from the 500SL model along with corresponding tuning of the drivetrain and suspension. Each example underwent an 18-day process, hand-assembled by Porsche at Zuffenhausen, transported back to Mercedes-Benz for painting, and finally redelivered to Porsche's "Rössle-Bau" plant where the car was completed and mated to its engine. This 1993 example comes finished in Black over a black leather interior. Initially delivered in Germany and accompanied by a Mercedes-Benz Classic Certificate, this two-owner 500E is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Switzerland showing approximately 160k kilometers on the odometer.
This 500E comes finished in Black (040U) complemented with gray lower cladding. It can be distinguished from the standard W124 by its wheel arch flares, wider track, lowered ride height, wider tires, and front air dam. Other exterior details include headlights with washers and wipers, a power sunroof, and chrome accents. The seller adds that the exterior has undergone a full paint correction and ceramic coating, and additional images are provided in the gallery. It rides on 16” eight-hole alloy wheels dressed in Michelin tires. This sale will include a set of summer and winter tires, plus the original spare wheel.
The cabin features black leather seats along with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Wood trim can be found throughout the front and rear center consoles and atop each door panel. Other interior features include heated and power-adjustable front seats, automatic climate control, and cruise control. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be working properly.
Borrowed from the 500 SL roadster, the 500E is powered by a 5.0-liter M119 32-valve DOHC V8 engine producing up to 322 HP and 354 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed automatic transmission while stopping power is handled by disc brakes also taken from the 500 SL. The seller notes that some service documents are included, in addition to a service and inspection carried out by Mercedes Benz Classic.
This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manual, and toolkit.
The seller would like you to know: "A beautiful 500E W124 from 1993, German supplied in top conditions and ready to be driven and enjoyed by its new owner. This example is presented in Black, a shade much more rare than Black Metallic!"
