Up for auction at no reserve is this 1992 Porsche 968 Coupe. Finished in Slate Grey Metallic over a light grey interior, this 968 is factory equipped with a 3.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine paired with a 6-speed manual transaxle. This vehicle remained with its original owner in Florida up until January of 2019 when it was traded in to a local dealer at approximately 126k miles. This 1-owner 1992 example is said to be in excellent driving order with a recent comprehensive mechanical service carried in preparation for sale.
The Slate Grey Metallic paint is said to be in great overall condition having been previously refinished under the original ownership (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). The rear glass was professionally sealed and this 968 rides on factory C2 5-spoke alloy wheels which are fitted with colored center crests and dressed in General G-Max tires.
The cockpit is configured in Light Grey with power-adjustable seats and perforated center inserts. This 968 features cruise control, a power-operated sunroof and an aftermarket Kenwood touchscreen head unit. The seller notes that the dashboard has been reconditioned and a new leather shift boot has also been installed along with new Lloyds floor mats. All gauges and accessories are reported to be fully functional.
Power comes from a naturally aspirated 3.0 L inline 4-cylinder M44 engine that produces 236 HP and 255 lb.-ft of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels providing for a 0-60 time of approximately 6.5 seconds and a top speed of over 150 MPH. This car is said to be in excellent running condition with the following list of service items recently addressed under the seller's care:
The sale of this Porsche 968 includes three keys, recent service records and a clean Carfax report. The 968 model is quickly gaining favor amongst Porsche enthusiasts, do not miss out on your chance to own this 1-owner 1992 example at no-reserve.

Can you confirm the fuel gauge is functioning properly and reads accurately at idle and while driving? In the first video it seems to flutter upon start. Thanks-
@TheTyTheyCallRy Here is a link to the drive video. Fun Car!
This was taken a little less than a month ago. Thanks for asking.

@TheTyTheyCallRy No way to tell if that's the original head gasket. I'll post a drive video I did a few weeks ago as soon as I can.
Is the original head gasket on the car? I am worried about the notorious pinion bearing. By any chance would you post a video of your driving it?
@dwells1960 Hard to know exactly. My shop manager tells me that it might be from the cam cover but it's very minor. I didn't clean it prior to taking the pic and as you can tell there is just 1 little drop right by the power steering bracket.
Bid in the amount of $7,250
@VertexAuto thanks, any updates on the question about minor oil leaks? Thanks
@dwells1960 Yes, the Batwing is missing. Same as with the engine cover, I can get a new original Porsche one for $400. It retails for about $550.
@etherwiggles Yes, those 2 covers are missing. If the winning bidder wants them. I can get both new from Porsche for $400 (I'll be covering a portion of the cost). They retail for about $650 for both.
Photo #79 shows the “bat wing” radiator cover missing? Is it missing or did you just remove it for inspection?
You have indicated “no major oil leaks” on the engine. What minor leaks do you see (rear main, balance shaft covers, etc.)?
@etherwiggles Yes, the covers should be there on a 1992. Not sure how easy they are to acquire but it seems that many 968’s have them missing and I’m not sure why? Maybe an expert can chime in on that!
Should a '92 have the plastic covers at the back and front of the engine bay?
Just an update here. We got the car up on the lift today and inspected a few things. We have submitted the photos to @PcarMarket and hope they have them up soon for all to see. Feel free to ask any questions or request any more info.
1. Suspension & Steering - The front struts and rear shocks look to be in good order and not leaking. All bushings look to good as well. No signs of cranking or being severely dry.
2. Brakes - Brakes all the way around look to have about 1/2 life left in them.
3. Engine - No major oil leaks.
4. CV Axles - No cracking or tears in with 4 boots.
5. Transmission is completely dry & zero issues up or down shifting.
One thing I did notice that was not mentioned in the listing is that there is a small (About 2 inch) tear in the dashboard right over the steering wheel near the edge of the windshield. It can't been seen from the inside of the car and very hard to photograph from the outside due to the reflection of the glass. I did submit the best possible photo I could capture of it. I really wanted to make sure this was mentioned as I don't want to hide any imperfections that I'm aware of.
@Sjmckim9 Yes, the AC was converted.
@VertexAuto thank you for the note on the AC (gulf coast here). Was the system converted?
@dwells1960 I submitted it to @PcarMarket a few days ago. I’ll inquire about them posting it again. If not, I’ll create a Dropbox folder with that pic and the undercarriage pics. This should be sorted by tomorrow. In the meantime, the codes are as following.
L22D TT
C03, XD4, 220, 331, 418, 437, 454, 490, 494, 498, 650, 09991
Could we get a shot of the option code sticker (located at rear hatch under carpet)?
@gillesnantel Send me a private message and we can coordinate.
@bigfootgarage AC is really good. These cars had much better AC than the 911s but not Toyota cold, if you know what I mean. It’s get in the “feels like” triple digits during the day down here in Miami and it holds up well.
@URS6 It’s only had 1 true owner. The other two were just dealers. As I mentioned below I only drove it about a dozen times to test things out. But I see what you mean.

WOOD LIKE TO GO SEE IT
Great car, Seller!! Thanks for letting it find a good home - hopefully, with me!! Question: AC ok, good, or great? Full AC driving tolerated by vehicle? Any "side effects"? Sincerely, fellow summer sufferer in southeast:)
@mec011 so it appears to be a Three owner car.
Bid in the amount of $6,000
I've had a few questions about the odometer. To clarify, the odometer was not working when we purchased the car. We repaired the odometer in preparation for the sale. The buyer will be receiving a vehicle with a working odometer.
@mec011 Thank you! I was really fortunate to get it at that price. I had been looking for a gray coupe 968 for years. I've put in about $7-$8K after obtaining it for Bill Patel, a well known Porsche guy here in Miami, FL, and is now a well sorted 968. I hope to recoup my investment but if not, I'm OK with it just going to a good home and someone that will actually drive it as often as it needs. As I mentioned in another post, I'm willing to work with the winner of the action in terms of any service they would like to have performed prior to delivery or any parts they may need along the way.
Bid in the amount of $5,250
This car sold on BaT a year ago. Much respect for listing it at no reserve again! GLWTS!

I'm not usually a huge fan of gray cars, but the 968 looks surprisingly dapper in this color, especially with the complimentary interior color choice!
@Spokayman Thank you for all of your knowledgeable input. You are correct, these are cup 1 wheels. The cup 2s are a bit more rounded. I just submitted the option code sticker picture and a start up & walk around video has already been uploaded. I'll work on those undercarriage pics tomorrow. Thanks again!
@VertexAuto,
For the benefit of bidders, would you show a photo of the options sticker (which also shows interior and exterior color codes)? This is located behind the carpet on the back side of the rear hatch compartment.
I’m seeing that the front and rear engine compartment covers (plastic pieces) are missing. These are mostly aesthetically items, but underside photos would show whether the more important underside covers are intact.
This is among the last 60 coupes built for the 1992 model year, has the early model Cup 1 (not C2) wheels, and should have the aforementioned engine bay covers.
Too bad the historical maintenance history is missing, but the recent known maintenance is good.
@Inline4 I do have the owners manual but no maintenance book. I also have the original Porsche bra that includes the mirror bras. The car comes with 2 keys and 2 factory wheel lock keys. I'll check to see what else I have and post a picture of it all.
@939 See my responses to the water pump, timing belt, documentation, etc. below. The car was purchased by a local dealer and customer of ours in Early 2019 and we obtained it from him around August of 2019. I actually purchased it with intentions to keep the car but never really had the time to drive it. In the year we had it, we performed the repairs and cosmetic work described in the listing. I only drove it about a dozen times just to see what the car needed and took it to a local Cars & Coffee. It drove really well. Always started on a dime and handled perfectly. It's a great looking and reliable car. Would make a perfect daily or weekender. I would love to stay in contact with it's new owner and help them with parts along the way.
Bid in the amount of $5,000
@leigh I responded about the water pump & timing belt below. As for brakes and suspension, they booth feel good when driving, but I'll get the car up on the lift by tomorrow and inspect both. I'll also take some undercarriage shots. Unfortunately, we did not get any previous service records but we will provide you with documentation for all of the work that we did.
@939 @leigh The previous owner stated that the Water Pump, Timing Belt, Balance Shaft Belt, and Rollers were service in early 2018, but no documents were provided. Upon receiving the car, we inspected the belts and they appeared to be relatively new. If the winning bidder would like to have the work done and documented by us, we would be willing to do the work using OEM parts for $1499. (including the front seal kit.) We are a very reputable Porsche shop that has been in business for over 35 years. Service documents for the work we performed (described in the listing) will also be provided.
@buccicone Yes, the odometer is functioning.
Bid in the amount of $1,500
Was the timing belt, water pump, an camshaft sliders replaced? Could you post maintenance records? If it was traded to the dealer in Jan 2019 - was it mostly unused for last 18 months?
Bid in the amount of $777
@Inline4 Miami, Florida
What about the owner's manual and service book?
What state is car in?
Odometer functioning??
Bid in the amount of $500
When was the timing belt and water pump done? Brakes and suspension maintenance ? Do you have records?
