One of 649 Coupes delivered to North America for the model year and only 54 to have been finished in Slate Grey Metallic in total, this 1992 Porsche 968 came factory equipped with a 6-speed manuals transmission and has been modified for track use while under PCA member ownership. It features Koni Cup 1 coilover suspension, a B&B exhaust system, a roll cage, Recaro seats, safety harnesses, and OZ Racing wheels. Remaining street-legal and accompanied by a clean title, this 968 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York with approximately 116k miles showing on the odometer.
This 968 is finished in Slate Grey Metallic with a custom vinyl racing livery featuring a ghosted image of the engine compartment on the hood. Other details include a custom windshield banner, an aftermarket front splitter, a rear spoiler wicker bill, a removable sunroof, and a front tow hook. The car rides on a set of 18” OZ Racing Alleggerita wheels measuring 8.5” wide in front and 10” wide in the rear, dressed in tires sized 245/40ZR18 and 285/30ZR18 respectively. The seller adds that the car has been used on the track for driver education (DE) events only. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The Classic Grey partial leather interior has been fitted with a pair of Recaro Profi sport seats and Schroth Enduro safety harnesses along with a Safety Devices half roll cage. Other additions include a custom control panel, the mount for a Coolshirt system, a MOMO gear knob and custom yellow-stitched gear lever boot, drilled OMP Racing pedals, flat-bottom OMP Racing steering wheel, LED shift indicator lights, Coco mats, and a carpet dashboard cover. The seller reports all factory gauges and accessories remain fully functional.
The 968’s naturally aspirated 3.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine features Variocam variable valve timing and was rated at 236 HP and 225 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission. The suspension has been upgraded with a Koni Cup 1 coilover kit along with Hypercoil springs (450lb./600lb.), Delrin bushings, Sport Suspension (M030) front control arms, Racer’s Edge front camber mounts, and a KLA front strut brace. Other upgrades include a B&B exhaust system and stainless-steel brake lines.
This sale will include the original owner’s manuals and a clean title.

@bents picking up the 968 vibe!

Thanks for the detailed replies! Sounds like a gem.
@HK_Motorcars It is NOT a race car - it is a DE car - you cannot drive a car with a full cage on the street... driven to the track and back... old school style, no trailer, no pick-up truck, no slicks :-)
@Mspohn No LSD. Koni coliovers, torsion bars out, solid bushings, sway bars, front shock tower brace and Racers Edge adjustable top mounts.
@bents Paint under the vinyl is very good. Perhaps a 6-7 out of 10. A paint correction would go a long way but then again it is a track car. Wrap covers entire hood and only the lower body panels and rockers. Grey area that you see is the paint. No dash lights, everything works, heat, AC (changed over to R134) it even has a horn (red button on steering wheel). No smells, no smoke, it is VERY clean for a track car and has MANY new parts, spent far more $ on it than we should have. Staff at Speedsport knows the car we'll. This is an excellent, safe track car. Top speed is less than a newer P-car that is just the HP. A blast to drive on the track and if you don't brake too hard (it is a momentum car) it is fairly quick. I run 1:05.1 at LRP with it and I am NOT a brave driver :-)
@bents Dash is not cracked and in good shape - prime reason for the black soft cover is to reduce reflection off of the grey dash into the windshield (which was new last season).
@nhskibm Tires have 6 track days at LRP. The normal times used on this car (PS2) were not available due to supply chain issues. Went with Falken Azenis, they wear quite well with little difference in grip form the PS2s - and they happen to be about $500 less :-) Who knew...
Any chance for underbody pictures? Also detailed pics of tread life on tires to see how many track days they may have left.

Sorry, one more. What’s the dash like under the carpet? Cracked?
Very cool 968. A few questions if you don’t mind:
- Any idea what the paint is like under the vinyl?
- Which panels exactly does the vinyl cover?
- Any lights on the dash (airbag, etc?) Doesn’t appear so but please confirm.
- Any smells inside the car? Smoke etc?
Thanks!
@Mspohn no LSD
Just seems like it would be a lot of fun throwing around a track or driving on some cool mountain type roads.
Equipped with an LSD?

@nhskibm No LSD.
Thanks
@HK_Motorcars Thanks!
One more: LSD or no LSD?
@nhskibm the timing belt was done 6 years ago by the previous owner. Roughly 8k miles ago. Diff and trans fluids were done approximately 5 years ago as well.
@rhart with out a full cage i an not sure what kind or "racing " it can do. It does have a place in PCA in Drivers Education "DE"
After reviewing the attached shop invoices I’m Curious on the following:
Last time T belt was done
Last time tranny and diff fluids were done
Thanks!
I'm guessing this is too new to qualify for any Vintage Racing series??

We are very happy to present this 1992 Porsche 968. Its a very clean car with all of its original interior parts included in the sale. The current and last owners are both PCA CVR members. In its current ownership the car was modified as a DE car. All of its systems work as they should. The car is overall very clean and tastefully modified. Road legal and a ton of nostalgic fun. Please ask any questions you may have!
@maj75 Yes the AC blows cold as it should
Does the AC still work?
