A lightweight performance model born from the Carrera Cup racing series, the Porsche 964 Carrera RS was produced in limited quantities for the European market featuring a stiffened chassis, increased engine output, shorter gear ratios, unassisted steering, and a special seam-welded bodyshell. This 1992 example comes finished in Rubystone Red and is said to have been originally delivered in Japan before being imported to Europe in 2013 where it was owned by a prominent Porsche collector in Monaco. The car later moved to Germany in 2020 where it was acquired by the seller and subsequently imported to Canada. It features an upgraded Quantum coilover suspension which was recently rebuilt along with a full service and dry ice cleaning of the undercarriage. Accompanied by its original Japanese service booklet and maintenance records dating back about 10 years, this sought-after Carrera RS is now being offered for auction at no reserve with approximately 43k kilometers (less than 27k miles) showing on the odometer.

This example is finished in Rubystone Red, a rare and desirable color that debuted on the 964 Carrera RS. In contrast to the standard 964 Carrera model range, the RS body was manufactured using a special seam-welding technique and utilizes an aluminum front bonnet, thinner glass windows, a lightweight rear bumper design, and aero-style mirrors borrowed from the 911 Turbo. It rides on factory 17" Cup Design magnesium alloy wheels dressed in Michelin N-rated tires from 2017. The seller adds that the tires show healthy tread depth and some areas of the car’s exterior have been touched up over the years including refinishing the passenger rear quarter, front fender, and windshield cowl. A few small stone chips are also noted as well as some staining on the door frames. The seller adds that all body panels retain their original factory labels and have been undisturbed based on visual inspection.  Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The spartan interior of the Carrera RS came from the factory without sound-deadening material, rear seats, airbags, power accessories, air conditioning, a radio, or a sunroof.  It features lightweight carpeting and a pair of racing-style bucket seats with tri-tone pink and purple leather inserts, painted backings, and matching seatbelts. The lightweight door panels also include matching pink pull straps and hand-crank windows.

The Carrera RS is powered by a special version of the 964’s 3.6-liter M64 engine featuring hand-selected pistons and cylinders, solid rubber mounts, a lightweight singles mass flywheel, and revised ECU programming. Up to 260 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a close-ratio 5- speed G50 manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. The car features unassisted rack & pinion steering and front brakes borrowed from the 911 Turbo. This example has been equipped with an upgraded Quantum coilover suspension which is said to have been recently rebuilt. The seller notes an extensive service history is available from the car’s time in Japan and additional records dating back to 2013 show a major service completed in Monaco at 42,495 kilometers. A full service was recently performed by the seller in addition to a comprehensive inspection and dry ice cleaning of the undercarriage.

This sale will include the original owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, service records, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know:Thank you for visiting our auction of one very special 964.  A factory Euro Carrera RS that we sourced and imported directly from Europe, after a long stay with a prominent collector in Monaco, and a 6-month chase.  Unlike many Carrera RSs, we believe this factory-Rubystone example still retains much of its original paint, with no evidence of prior serious crash damage (if you've been shopping, you know how many of these cars have been cut in half).  A straight, true, honest RS is arguably the most sought-after color.  This car looks stunning in person and drives even better - truly the most special air-cooled 911 we've had the pleasure of experiencing.  We've done a mechanical inspection, service, and thorough shakedown run to make sure this RS is ready for its next home.  Good luck bidding!”

@Steven0401 - we do not have the original shocks, although if I'm not mistaken, the Carrera RS used M030 sport suspension, which is actually pretty easy to find second hand. There is actually an OEM Carrera RS set on ebay now for under 2500usd. That said, the current suspension in the car is better than factory, feels fantastic, I dont think you'll want to change it! Hope this helps.

  • Jarod964 (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@Desert911s - I haven't been able to find any clear info about this. But of 290 RS NGTs made, only approx. 38 were known to be rubystone. About 13%. If we extrapolate to the total production of 2276 cars, at the same Ruby-rate, we can expect under 300 cars total in this colour. Given so many have been crashed, modded, or cut up, I think its important to remember a car like this is not a matter of cost, but rather a matter of when the next decent example will even become available on the market. Don't miss the chance to have one now!

  • Steven0401 (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

Does the original suspension come with the car?

  • Desert911s (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

Any good sources out there for the number of 964 RS produced in the various colors?

  • Jarod964 (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

Winding down to the final few hours of bidding on our Rubystone RS, now selling AT NO RESERVE - this car will find a new home today! This is a tight, straight, honest 964 RS, in the best colour, already sorted and ready for turn key enjoyment from the next caretaker. Although some painted panels and touch ups are present (still far better than average for a Carrera RS), this car seems to retain its original bodywork with no sign of serious crash damage reported, like many RS’s out there. A great car for an enthusiast who won’t feel guilty to actually drive, but is still hunting for the low-mileage tightness and optics. The car is still available for viewings/inspection in our showroom until auction close. Please see my comments below for info on quick and easy re-import to the US - we are happy to help you with worldwide shipping. Bid with confidence knowing you are transacting with a franchise Porsche dealership, and good luck!

    @modecarde1970 here’s some
    Good info:

  • Modecarde1970 (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

    ok understud i was wrong
cause i red RS has no antifog electrical device and thinner window i was thinking the opposite .
Moreover i found this lookk around : https://www.stuttgart-classica.co.uk/bodyexterior/rs-rear-window
    ....
Are these for the cup car?

  • Jarod964 (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@Modecarde1970 - Rear defrost lines are factory and correct to the car. We believe all the glass in this car to be original and matching #, except possibly the windshield.

  • Roeser33 1 year, 4 monthsago

@modecarde1970 Euro 964RS glass has defrost lines. All cars I’ve had do (low miles, original) and if you peruse other auction sites and look at other 964, whether high or low miles, or even clubsport RS 964 = ALL have lines.

  • Modecarde1970 (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

i think the rear glass has been changed, there are no anti-fog system wires in the oem European version

  • Jarod964 (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

Exciting news, we’ve decided to roll the dice, try our luck, and pull the reserve on this RS - NOW A NO RESERVE AUCTION! Although we are certainly expecting (and counting on) some much higher bids as we approach the finish line, we’ve decided to add some excitement and raise the stakes for you guys. High bidder takes this car home. An absolute steal anywhere remotely close to the current bid, a lot of room to keep moving!!! Best of luck.

@roeser33 - thanks for the kind words. You are absolutely right. We inspected 20+ 964 RS's in Europe before selecting this one to import, most were missing the Mag wheels (15k to replace) and many were missing the Recaros (another 15-20k)...and most had been crashed/cut up. These were track cars back in their day and treated as such; finding a fresh, fairly original example thats lived a collector life is only getting more difficult with age! This is a good car.

  • Roeser33 1 year, 4 monthsago

Rubystone FTW! Arguably the best color on the 964RS and 964 in general. Good to see this car still has its magnesium wheels and factory Recaro’s in place. Just those pieces alone are $35-40k if missing (which can be common for 964 RS’s as many sold for aluminum cups and non X mold/brace pole positions!) Cool thing as well as this car can be driven and not just tucked away no miles garage queen.

To any potential bidders: I’ve had 4x Rubystone cars of various models, ALL had paint work. Ruby not only faded, it wasn’t the unicorn it is now and back in 90’s / 2000s it was common practice overseas to paint the car to either correct the fading and/or touch up.

    GLWA! Rubystone is LEGEND

For those requesting, we've had a PPI completed at Porsche Centre London, will upload this documentation this afternoon for interested parties. Have fielded a few calls from interested bidders requesting to know the reserve price on this RS. As per pcarmarket guidelines, we can’t share this information. The past few Rubystone cars to transact included a 40k-km car with minor accident history in California for very high $300s, a 40k km repainted car on BAT for $401k, and a pristine (mostly) original paint example from road scholars for $470k. Hopefully this gives you some indication of how various quality levels are transacting at the moment, and with that, just know that we have priced this car to sell this week. We are in the business to sell, and intend to send this car to its new home at a price reasonable for all parties.

    @GinnmillRacing
I can confirm that on the two RS I owned, both of them had the rear carpet that was in the same condition as this one
My understanding is that it's common for RS

Best color for a RS and probably one of the best 911 to drive

***USA import*** - being over 25 years old, this car is fully US compliant and can be imported without any modifications. Only associated costs will be: approximately 2.8% duty on purchase price, a small broker fee for the paperwork (if you dont want to do it yourself) - generally around $500, and finally, the cost of transport. Transport from Canada to the US enclosed is generally between 1000-2500 usd, depending on location. Companies like TFX can handle transport and import all in one shot. Don't hesitate to reach out with any further import questions.

For anyone who hasn’t bought from us before, we are a franchise Porsche dealer in Ontario Canada, specializing in a variety of 964/993/997 product. We are super excited to bring this Ruby RS to market - a car that came out of a mind-boggling private collection, and has now made the long trip to North America. This car is fully US admissible, and we are happy to assist with US shipping/transport for any American buyers. Will post approximate import costs for a US buyer in the next comment. This car may not be 100% original paint, but is straight in every way and drives like NEW - absolutely one of the best 964’s I’ve ever had the pleasure of driving. Every input, every feeling, is just perfect. A collector piece that you can actually take out of its bubble and enjoy every once in a while. I’ll be here all week to help field any questions/inquiries - please use the ‘contact seller’ button to reach out. Good luck!

  • Jarod964 (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@GinnmillRacing - I think the glue is starting to let go, probably from heat or UV rays over time, pretty common on these. Ideally should be pulled out, remove old adhesive, and re install with modern adhesive.

What's going on with the carpet in the rear? Very wrinkled. Looks like it was removed and not replaced correctly. Also...is there an imprint from something below the Carrera RS stitching? Thanks.
