The ultimate evolution of the Maserati Biturbo, the Shamal was produced from 1990 until 1996 with only 369 examples in total and was the last model announced by Maserati while under the ownership of De Tomaso. Deriving its name from the northwesterly wind that blows between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, the Shamal features bodywork designed by Marcello Gandini. Power is derived from a twin-turbocharged 3.2-liter V8 engine mated to a Getrag 6-speed manual transmission with a limited-slip differential. This 1992 example was imported to the U.S. from Japan under prior ownership and purchased by the current owner out of California in 2020. The current owner has added approximately 3k kilometers and has invested about $20k in maintenance costs. This rare Maserati Shamal is now being offered for auction out of Minnesota by the selling dealer in Colorado with approximately 74k kilometers (~45k miles) showing on the odometer.

The Shamal’s angular and aggressive bodywork features some of Marcello Gandini’s most distinctive design elements with rear wheel arches inspired by those of the Lamborghini Countach and a unique front windshield spoiler derived from the De Tomaso Pantera 90 Si. Other details include flared fenders, side skirts, a small rear spoiler, 16” alloy wheels, and a black-finished roll bar with “Shamal” badging on each B-pillar. This example is finished in red and is said to have been treated with ceramic coating under prior ownership. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin features black leather upholstery with grey carpeting and suede door inserts. Equipment includes power-adjustable front bucket seats, individual rear seats, a four-spoke leather steering wheel, a burl wood shift knob, power windows, air conditioning, a turbocharger boost gauge, a Maserati-branded dashboard clock, and an aftermarket Kenwood Bluetooth stereo. The driver’s seat electronics are said to have been replaced under prior ownership along with the installation of the Kenwood stereo and a custom climate control touch panel. The air conditioning system was also recharged under current ownership.

Featuring Weber-Marelli electronic fuel injection, twin-turbochargers, and dual intercoolers, the 3.2-liter AM479 V8 engine was rated at 326 HP and 320 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a Getrag 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The chassis features four-wheel 11” disc brakes and an adaptive suspension developed in collaboration with Koni. The original 3.36 differential was replaced with a NOS 3.73 unit by the current owner and is reported to have no noticeable effect the driving experience. Several repairs were performed by the current owner and service by the previous owner included a new ignition coil, oxygen sensors, spark plugs, a power steering hose, a coolant sensor O-ring, exhaust hangers, fluids, and a wheel alignment. The timing belt was replaced in 2017.

This sale will include a toolkit, some documentation, and a clean title.

Dealer fees are limited in many states. Unfortunately, not in mine. I have walked away from dealers who insist on charging just under $1,000 dealer fees. All cars have an intrinsic value. If the dealer fees combined with the actual car costs sum to remain within the overall value of the car then buy it! On this seemingly well maintained car rare car I would argues that even adding in the dealer fees the car will still be overall a good value!
The fees seem annoying but just consider it part of the overall price and it’s easier to digest.
    Very cool car! GLWTS

@jackal0506 I'm in agreement the clutch pedal should have received a new rubber cover. Otherwise, the car was recently detailed and the radio, I believe, is more of a subjective topic. Your other observation regarding an apparent lack of maintenance is erroneous and speaks more to your lack of effort reviewing this listing -- did you bother to review the service documents before spouting-off?! The current owner spent nearly $20K in service, replacing everything from the differential to the cam chains. For anyone else, who's a serious buyer for this car I encourage you to reach out directly to Dick, the owner of Foreign Affairs in Hopkins, MN. He will be happy to provide any additional information you may need to have total piece of mind regarding the fact this car has been exceptionally well maintained.

@PheasantRun. The dealer fees you believe are just rude actually help us offset the additional costs that incurred as a dealer. Many perspective buyers actually see working with a dealer being advantageous as we are held to a higher standard of accountability by a state licensing office. The additional paperwork we are required to complete insures every sale is above board, thus providing you -- the customer, with transparency throughout the sale process. We also provide a 60 day temp tag giving our customers a stress-free registration process. I hope you have an opportunity to work with us so you can see the value in terms of customer service for our modest $299 dealer fee

If your trying to get a premium fir this car, replace the clutch pedal rubber , change the radio to stock and do a proper detailing , other wise it look s like it hasn't been well maintained and these cars are notorious money pits if they aren't maintained. Just some friendly advise
