Conceived as a homologation special for World Rally Championship Group A racing, the Ford Escort RS Cosworth features a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four Cosworth engine, a 5-speed manual transaxle, a permanent all-wheel-drive system, and an exterior aerokit with a distinctive whale tail spoiler. This first-year example is one of the 2,500 early homologation versions equipped with the oversized Garrett T3/T04B hybrid turbocharger. It comes without a sunroof and is finished in the 1992-only exterior color of Polaris Silver over a Polaris Grey interior with hexagon pattern cloth inserts. The car is supported by a documented ownership history in Spain and benefits from nearly $20k in recent service including new adjustable SPAX struts, a new battery, a rebuilt steering rack, new engine sensors, multi-plugs, fluids, a fuel pump, and more. One of the most iconic rally racers of the 1990s, this Ford Escort RS Cosworth is now being offered for auction out of Colorado with approximately 48k kilometers or under 30k miles showing on the odometer.
Based on a modified Sierra Cosworth platform, the Escort RS was assembled by Karmann in Germany featuring Mk 5 Escort-style bodywork and a unique aerodynamic package with fender flares, side skirts, a vented hood, and a whale tail rear spoiler. This non-sunroof example was factory-finished in the 1992-only color of Polaris Silver and rides on factory 16” five-spoke wheels. The seller notes minor paint cracks on the lower section of the rear spoiler, a small rust spot was repaired and painted on the fuel cover, and the front grille was repaired and painted to address a small crack. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin features Polaris Gray cloth upholstery with hexagonal patterns on the Karmann bucket seat centers. Accessories include power windows, mirrors, and door locks, a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, air conditioning, a period-correct stereo, and a dashboard-mounted gauge cluster with dials for boost pressure, oil pressure, and battery voltage. The seller notes a DTM data monitor has been installed in place of the clock. The windshield washer pump has been replaced and the air-conditioning system was serviced with a rebuilt compressor and a new condenser. All gauges and accessories are said to be working properly.
The Cosworth YBT 2.0-liter inline-four engine features a Garrett T3/T04B hybrid turbocharger, an air-to-water intercooler, and dual overhead camshafts with four valves per cylinder. A 5-speed manual transaxle sends power to all four wheels through a rear-biased permanent AWD system. Stopping power comes from cross-drilled disc brakes at each corner. The seller indicates adjustable SPAX struts have been installed in place of the factory units and the car has been serviced with new multi-plugs and engine sensors, a new battery, vacuum leak repair, a new fuel pump and regulator, a four-wheel alignment, and all new fluids. A timing belt service is also said to have been recently completed under the care of the previous owner in Spain.
This sale will include a clean title, owner's manuals, a toolkit, and a spare tire.

Standing by to answer any last minute questions. Enjoy piece of mind knowing this car is fully sorted!
@garrege 1. The title is from Colorado, registered in my dealership's name, Pcar has a copy of it.
2. You are an astute observer. The under body video was shot shortly after the vehicle arrived, nearly two years ago and the struts were installed about 6 months ago. For additional information and copies of service records please visit cultcarsforsale.com.
The ad says the Spax struts are new but they don't look new in the underside video; can you explain?
The ad says it comes with a clean title; from what state was the title issued?

@XHILLR8 I notice it as well, the drivers side is maybe a couple mm off from the passenger side. The bumper was removed when work was carried out on the ac system and tbh I wasn’t aware of the gap until you pointed it out. The short answer is I don’t know, but I’m happy to ask the mechanic on Monday to see how the figment can be adjusted.
@cultcars ... the drivers side front bumper cover seems to have a gap where it meets the fender... is this correctable? Or are the gaps the same on each side?
Bid in the amount of $10,000
@cultcars And yes it was imported above-board with all documentation available
@Clubracer6 Yes it's got a clear Colorado title with mileage recorded, currently titled to Cult Cars LLC
Does this currently have a Colorado title? Has it officially been imported to the US for road use?
We've had the opportunity to sell some really cool cars over the years, but nothing grabs my attention like an Escort RS Cosworth. From its bulging fenders to the iconic rear wing, this car makes a statement wherever it goes. Aside from a small handful of replacement parts this car is all original and highly collectible. Similar examples are selling for over $100K in Europe. We welcome your questions would be happy to schedule private showings for serious buyers.
