Available for auction is this 1991 Volkswagen Type 2 T3 Vanagon finished in Pastel White over a Grey velour interior. Offered as the Vanagon in the American market, the T3 was first introduced in 1979 and would continue production up until 1992. The T3 was the first Type 2 version to employ a water-cooled engine and the last to feature a rear-engine layout. This single owner 1991 example features a Volkswagen Jetta sourced water-cooled engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, upgraded Porsche vented front brakes, and factory air conditioning. Accompanied by a collection of records, this modified Vanagon is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida showing approximately 227k miles on the odometer.
Finished in Pastel White, this Vanagon features grey lower body cladding, bumpers, and removable Porsche decals on the front doors. The finish exhibits some stone chips, dings, and scratches commensurate with age and mileage. The driver’s side rear end cap has reportedly been refinished; detailed images can be found in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. Equipment includes Eurostyle halogen headlamps, a vintage Vasak Polak Porsche license plate frame, and 15” 5-spoke wheels dressed in a set of Nokian tires from 2013.
The 7-passenger cabin is upholstered in Grey velour with grey carpets and a black dashboard. Amenities include factory air conditioning, body-colored power-operated mirrors, crank windows, a folding rear bench seat, a rear defroster, and tinted glass. The seller confirms that all gauges, electronics, and accessories remain functional apart from the power mirrors.
Power comes from a Volkswagen Jetta sourced water-cooled engine rated at approximately 140 HP. The rear wheels are driven by way of an upgraded 5-speed manual transmission and the front brakes have been upgraded to vented Porsche units. The suspension consists of an independent setup in front and semi-trailing arms in the rear with telescopic shock absorbers and coil springs. The seller notes the vehicle has received regular oil and filter services as well as a recent tune-up in preparation for sale.
This sale will include a clean title.

Max: hows the AC works, and is the engine feel powerful enough to do daily normal drivings. Thanks !
Nice Van. How well does the AC work? especially in Florida?
@9146max Can you guess mpg, say 28-30? what is the meaning of ' rolling stick ' . Sorry for my poor understanding.
@davidlam2022 Also no idea of miles per gallon but it’s a 4 cylinder with a manual 5 speed which should help. Remember it’s a rolling brick lol
@davidlam2022 It shifts like a 1991 VW Vanagon but with 5 gears instead of 4. Trucking to S Florida is likely less than $500. I’m happy to cover that if my reserve is met. Good luck.
Hi Max, how is the 5-speed transmission shifts feels like when driving. And the appx. mpg could you guess ? Thanks! (I m serious buyer so I ask). Will you able to deliver to Fort Lauderdale FL address afterward.
@davidlam2022 I don’t know the engine year. The transmission was rebuilt and installed in approx 2003.
Hi, what is the approximate year of replacement engine and the transmission.
@davidlam2022 I’m sorry I wasn’t clear. It’s a 2.0 VW water cooled gasoline engine from a Jetta. I’ve not had to do anything to it since I purchased it 30-45 days ago. No white smoke. According to original owner it was fully rebuilt 16-17k miles ago. Runs strong. Original owner is over 80 years old and he provided every receipt from new.
Hi, I also would like to know the approximate mpg. Thanks!
Hi 9146max, is the engine gasoline or diesel, 2.L, with turbo? Have you replaced the timing belt, alternator, clutch, radiator. How are these major items doing could you please share some light. Does engine produce white smokes. What major item will be due for replacement do you anticipate. Thank you so much for kind reply. Cheers, David

@CurtGT3RS ???
“Well maintained” and 9 year old tires, do not seem to instill confidence….
@Abolfaz Thank you for your bid.
Crossed drilled Porsche disk brakes on front. Runs and drives nicely. The AC blows very cold. The T3 is exceptionally clean, tastefully upgraded with 140 reliable VW HP and well maintained. It is a 1-owner van. Where do you find another one like this?
