Available for auction is this 1991 Mercedes-Benz W126 350SDL finished in Desert Taupe Metallic over a Brazil leather interior. Renowned for its quality, durability, and engineering, the W126 S-Class has become a modern classic. Originally a Texas car, this diesel-powered long-wheelbase 1991 example was acquired by the seller in September of 2021 from its previous owner out of Palm Springs, California. Under current ownership, the car received significant refurbishment including new motor and transmission mounts, accessory belts, tensioners, suspension components, and more. It is now being offered for auction by its owner out of California showing approximately 189k miles on the odometer.
Finished in Desert Taupe Metallic (441U) with custom orange and gray pinstripes, the body features headlight wipers, a power-retractable antenna, and a set of 15″ Gullideckel wheels which were refinished in 2021. The wheels come dressed in a set of Michelin X Tour A/S tires from 2019 and the seller notes a few touched-up imperfections throughout the exterior as well as a scratch and dent on the driver’s rear quarter, and a small screw hole in the passenger side rocker panel. The clear coat is degrading on the roof and trunk lid, and the rear bumper was refinished under current ownership for cosmetic purposes. Detailed images can be found in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX.
The cabin is upholstered in Brazil leather (263) with Zebrano wood inlays. Passengers are treated to power-adjustable front seats with position memory, automatic climate control, cruise control, power windows, and a Becker cassette stereo with a trunk-mounted CD-changer. A layer of removable tint covers the rear windows. Under current ownership, three of the door panels were reupholstered along with the B-pillars while the steering wheel was redyed.
Power comes from a 3.5-liter inline-six turbodiesel engine driving the rear wheels by way of a four-speed automatic transmission. The CARFAX report includes 12 service history records dating back as far as 2001, and the current owner has overseen the replacement of the engine and transmission mounts, lower A-arm guide mounts, ball joints, fuel injection pump/seal, driveshaft carriers, accessory belt/tensioner, intake pipe, and oil pan gasket as well as a wheel alignment.
This sale will include a clean title.

To all bidders, we are nearing the final hour. I would like to thank you all for participating. This vehicle is truly special and very well sorted through. About 800 350SDL were produced in 1991, about 50 were in this color. The buyer will go home with one of my collection's peice.
Good Luck to all.
@JB6666 great questions. I had taken this vehicle to a specialist who worked on the plant in Germany building the W126 and W140. He took a deep look into this car, and stated that the exhaust trap had been addressed, and the rod issue was fixed. If the engine has not had a problem until now, chances are high that nothing will happen from here on. Usually, these were taken back to the dealer and issues were covered under extended warranty.
The vehicle was on BaT, and the sale fell through.
I have one more question. I ran the vin on this car. The information states that the car sold at bring a trailer on May 10 2022. I assume that since you have been the owner for a year that that sale fell through. Is that correct info about the car selling on May 10 2022.
Bid in the amount of $7,420
HI. I have owned a Mercedes diesel in the past. Great car after fixing the vacum system for the air. My question is, I've been informed that the 3.5 Diesel had problems withe the rods bending. Opinions differ as to the cause. My question is has the car had any engine work done.
I assume from your description that the car is not leaking oil that this not a problem with this car.

@Jacksunoco Thanks for the kind advise. I'm sure that the vehicle is well protected. I wax it every time I wash it.
Bid in the amount of $4,000
@HJSarafian what sometimes works is wet sanding the area and shooting clear coat over if there is enough paint on the panel.
Bid in the amount of $3,000
@Jacksunoco I agree. I believe this is when manufacturers were transitioning from one stage paint to two stage paint. They had not perfected it yet. The fade is in the top layer/clear coat. In all honesty, the pictures look worst than what it is, mainly due to the reflection of the clouds making it look like faded paint.

Photo 21 shows the clear coat issue, a lot of cars from the 90’s seem to have that issue. I have a mint original 98 Buick with same issue and garage kept . Sun damage .
Bid in the amount of $1,501
This should easily make a trip to Florida. With Diesel fuel at all time high might be worth transporting.
Bid in the amount of $1,251
@jaynar Thanks for the comment. AC works great. Nice cold air. Heater works just as well.
Gorgeous SDL! My girlfriend drove one in high school, I may want to buy this for her. Does the AC blow cold (my usual question lol)?
Bid in the amount of $1,001

Hello All Commentors, Bidders, and Spectators. I present you with my 1991 Mercedes-Benz 350SDL. Rumored (by the previous owner) to be special ordered (because of the color combination) by an Oil Tycoon Heir. The vehicle was purchased last year by me from the previous owner who used it to to travel from Palm Springs to Los Angeles on a bi-weekly basis. He loved it, and took good care of it. After I bought it, I addressed a few more items for a peace of mind. Belts, Tensioner pulley, Motor mounts and struts, drive shaft carrier bearing, Transmission mount, Fuel Injection pump seals, Fuel filter, Oil change and filter, Transmission oil change & gasket & filter, Ball joints, Lower arm guide bushings, and an intake breather pipe. The car is solid, starts every time, and drives like a beauty. I also had it fully inspected by a W126 master mechanic, this guy was on the factory floor building and training on W126s and W140s. This mechanic told me the car is in good shape, and the exhaust trap has been addressed and I could not have asked for a better condition and driving 350SDL. The vehicle does NOT burn oil, or has any reduction in oil levels. The car does not leak fuel. Chirps the tires going into second gear (when full throttle). It lived its life in Texas, Nevada, and later Palm Springs, CA. I guarantee that the vehicle is rust free, but there might be some surface oxidation on a couple suspension components, which can easily be addressed by anyone.
Do want to note that the vehicle has 180+k miles, leather is in great shape, but there are a couple dings on the body and a few touch up spots from rock chips. I will include a cup of touch up paint with the sale. Also, the Mercedes-Benz CD player was added by one of the previous owners, it’s an original W126 CD player, just not mounted. I will mount the CD player properly before the sale.
Feel free to ask me questions.
Good Luck Everyone.
