We are pleased to present this 1991 BMW E31 850i Coupe finished in Black over a Light Silver-Grey Nappa leather interior. The E31 represents an icon of BMW design with its pillarless windows, pop-up headlights, and a wind-tunnel-shaped wedge-like profile. Debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1989 as BMW’s flagship grand touring sports car, the 8-Series featured a powerful V12 engine and a host of new technology including electronic throttle control and multi-link rear suspension. This 850i was sold new at Otto’s Imported Cars of Westchester, PA, where it was serviced regularly until 2020. Recent maintenance includes a new fuel pump, brake master cylinder, water pump, drive belts, thermostat, throttle body, new coolant hoses, and more. Showing approximately 75k miles on the odometer, this increasingly sought-after BMW 850i is now being offered for auction by its owner out of New York.
This E31 is presented in Black (086) and features pop-up headlights fitted with upgraded HID bulbs, front fog lights, a sliding steel sunroof, and black quad exhaust tips. The seller reports several panels to have been previously refinished and notes a hairline scratch on the hood and rear bumper, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report. This 850i rides on classic three-piece 16″ BBS RS wheels with gold centers and machined lips that are mounted with Goodyear Eagle Sport all-season tires showing date codes from 2017.
The cabin features power-adjustable front seats upholstered in Light Silver-Grey Nappa leather with matching door panels and grey carpeting with BMW 850i-branded floor mats. Driver’s amenities include a built-in K40 radar detector, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 12-speaker BMW hi-fi stereo system, power windows and locks, a power-adjustable steering column, and an aftermarket Pioneer single-din foldout head unit with a rear-view camera and Bluetooth connectivity. Instrumentation includes a 5900-RPM tachometer, a 190-mph speedometer, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The seller notes a small crack on the central air vent surround as well as slight sagging of the headliner near the driver’s side sun visor.
The 850i is powered by a 5.0L M70 V12 engine that was factory rated at 296 HP and 332 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed automatic transmission which allows the 850i to reach 60 MPH from a standstill in approximately 6 seconds. This E31 received a long list of services in 2020 including a new fuel pump, water pump, brake master cylinder, drive belts, thermostat, throttle body, and coolant hoses. The air conditioning system has also been converted to R134a coolant. Images of the undercarriage are provided in the gallery along with a collection of service invoices.
This sale will include a clean title, a set of keys, the original window sticker, BBS wheel documentation, toolkit, full-size spare, owner’s manuals, and service records. An exceptionally well-engineered German touring car and an appreciating modern classic, this 850i presents an opportunity that is not to be missed.
