At the top of the Audi 80/90 model range, the high-performance and seldom-seen 90 Quattro 20V features a 20-valve engine and an advanced Quattro all-wheel-drive system. Powered by a 2.3-liter inline-five mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and a torque-sensing center locking differential, this 1991 example comes finished in Tornado Red over grey upholstery. Owned by a single family since new, it has been maintained by Anderson Motorsport in Minneapolis and Auto Edge in St. Paul throughout the past 8 years. Showing approximately 157k miles on the odometer, it is now being offered for auction out of Minnesota.
This example is finished in Tornado Red and rides on 15” BBS alloy wheels wrapped in Toyo Extensa A/S tires from 2017. Equipment includes integrated lower front fog lights, halogen headlamps with clear lenses, pronounced fender flares, a rear spoiler, and a twin exhaust outlet. The seller notes the hood was refinished in 2017 to address road chips, and the trunk lid was replaced at the time. Additionally, the emblems have been removed, which will accompany the sale. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report noting a total loss and minor damage in 2017.
The cabin presents grey leather upholstery with a matching dashboard, door panels, and Audi-branded carpeting complemented by polished wood accents. Equipment includes a 4-spoke steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, a sunroof, power windows, and power-adjustable mirrors. The radio was replaced with a Bluetooth-compatible unit. Additionally, the seller states care was taken to replace non-functional illuminated dashboard switches although the backlight on the volt gauges has burned out. The specialists at Auto Edge are said to have retrofitted the A/C system with custom refrigerant lines and replaced non-functional illuminated dash switches from various eBay sources. Cracks in the leather are noted.
Power is provided by a 2.3-liter inline-five engine generating 160 HP and 148 lb.-ft of torque stock. All four wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual transmission, a Torsen center locking differential, and Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The vehicle experienced a common fuel injector issue, leading to a decade-long storage period. In 2016, Anderson Motorsport in Minneapolis, an Audi specialist, revived the car with approximately $5k worth of repairs, including converting the fuel injectors to Bosch types, replacing the radiator and motor mounts, and performing other maintenance. Approximately $2k was invested in repairing the shifter linkage using original parts sourced from Germany. Additional service was carried out by Auto Edge in St. Paul, MN, which included upgrading the fuel pressure regulator to an adjustable racing type set to approximately 4.0 bar, as the factory parts were unavailable.
This sale will include a clean title, a spare tire, and a battery charger.
The seller would like you to know: “Great vehicle for someone who appreciates the Audi Quattro design. Gets a lot of thumbs-up when driven. A total beast in the snow with the locking differential. Always stored indoors. It has been in the family since new. Time to let her go as my mom is moving to an independent living place and the garage space is no more.”

@Poluski thank you!
@Poluski thank you. Maybe we could make that work.
@awestendorf8 Exactly. I wanted to show the photos of the before just to give perspective as to how minor that was.
@GoodGrandma Hi there. So technically the lease where my mom is staying goes till mid September so I can keep the car indoors until then.
@poluski - are the photos of the rear bumper/lights damage the before? And then the next two photos are after + the replacement of the truck lid? Thanks!
Hello, my grandson is very interested in this car but we live in Georgia. How soon would we need to be in MN to pick the car up? Shipping costs make it prohibitive but making that trip to MN is going to require some planning.

Aww man, I love these old 20V NA cars. I had a '90 CQ20V from 95-03 and went through just about everything. Good to see the junk Hitachi fuel injection system has been eliminated in favor of the more easily serviced Bosch stuff. Speaking of Anderson, I can still picture Susan ripping hers around BIR and RA back in the mid to late 90s when I was the webmaster for QCUSA (now ACNA). These cars sound incredible with a sport exhaust system. Hers had a Stebro system while my CQ had a Scorpion. Mine was definitely more on the rowdy side.
Your car looks excellent for the age... and you're even local to me. This is just the sort of temptation I don't need when I've got 5 vintage Audis to look after already. ;-)
@Bdubs The car is totally drivable. It was my daily driver two years ago when I was waiting for my Taycan. Auto Edge went through the car at that time to prep it for that purpose. The car gets exercised occasionally as need arises. Clutch is good and shifting is super smooth. The rust is noted in pics on the rear of the front wheel wells but it is surface kind. Can't comment or quantify as to what is happening underneath but When Anderson was working on the car it all seemed normal.
I don’t think I saw an underside pic or driving video. How’s the rust situation underneath, as well as clutch and shifting? I assume it’s drivable?
I got a think for red!
Glws!
@Bdubs regarding the sunroof. It works as shown in pics. Slides back and forth and pops up and down.
@tommyb1965 correction…When you say deck lid I thought you meant a reflector piece between the rear lights like in old 914s or 911s. I do not have the trunk/deck lid but have the emblems.
Bid in the amount of $1,000
@tommyb1965 Hi there. Yes I have the gaudy emblems. I chose to keep them but not put them on. I like the cleaner look of just the four circles. I do not have the deck lid unfortunately. That was damaged and yes hard to get although I have not been looking for it on eBay for years.
Any chance you kept the old rear deck lid or the emblems Audi 90 Quattro 20V as shown in photo 23? They are very difficult to find, I like the badging. Thanks. Also is there any chance this was a Sport version, I have heard some say there was such a thing but other places, it is not so clear. I saw 1 picture on the internet of one with this badging and the owner referred to it as such, but elsewhere I find no mention, maybe you have knowledge of this. Beautiful car, Thank you for your time!

@Bdubs Ahh yes…that is a deteriorated air inlet elbow covering. That is why I took the picture for full disclosure. It needs some TLC to seal it. The timing of the move and putting this up for auction did not line up. Should be an easy job with a spray rubber coating product or similar.
@Bdubs No leaks. I take a look at the specs. Poor job of vacuuming on my part. Will take another photo.
Bid in the amount of $500
Not being an engine guy what’s the brown stuff in pic 61? - btw my dad had this car and I easily got it up to 120mph one night, statute of limitations is over so I don’t mind disclosing
Sorry - pic 49
Any leaks? Also, any issues with the sunroof or seal? Looks like maybe some liner cushion specs on front dash and center console?

A nice article about the car. Apparently less than 1000 units came to USA.
I have ridden in this Audi several times but it has been a few years ago. What I can tell you is that the owner is “car lovers” car guy. He very diligent about taking care of all he’s vehicles and ensuring that the work being done is by some of the best in the Twin cites. I have no doubt that his preference would be to keep this Audi but alas everybody has only so much garage space. If you win this you won’t be disappointed!
@motowfo @motowfo, I do not have a CarFax report. But, we have owned the car since day one. I have all the recent service records for the work done by the best of the best in the Twin Cities. Anderson is an independent Audi specialist. AutoEdge has done work for me on all my collector cars. Their work is awesome.
@motowfo @motowfo, So the title I don't think is a "rebuilt". I have a normal looking title which was issued in 2021. There is no special or unusual branding on it. It looks like a normal title. As noted in the write up, the car was labeled as a total loss by the insurance company due to the cost of repairs to replace the trunk. The original trunk damage is also shown in pics. The repair was literally a replacement of the trunk lid. This car is of great sentimental value thus we made the decision to do the repair and have the hood resprayed at the same time to make it look proper.
CarFax report?
So the title is a Rebuilt title?
@AtLast thx for your questions. Here are the answers one by one:
-The two lights were for Parking Brake and Brake. The Brake light went off right after I stopped the video. I can shoot another one if necessary. The Park Brake goes off after the hand brake is released, of course.
-Yes, the total loss was due to the cost of the replacement of the trunk lid VS. their valuation of the car. Thus I show the picture. That is all.
-I'd need to look at the undercarriage. If needed I can pop over to Auto Edge and put the car on the lift totake some pics.
-Yes, I have a three ring binder of records.
-Anderson Motorsport did the initial work to bring it back to life. I am certain that the belt and pumps and thermostat were replaced. I know that Auto Edge did work on the thermostat. I'll look and report back.
What lights remained illuminated after you started the car in the video? Was the total loss in 2017 due to the cost of repairs in relation to the low value of the vehicle? What damages occurred? Is there any rust on the undercarraige? Do you have all service records? When were the timing belt/tensionsers/water pump/thermostat replaced?
Hello good people. I'm here to answer any questions about the car. The car has been with the family since day one and running great for the last 8 years. I used it as a daily driver when I was waiting for a Taycan delivery couple years ago. Sadly it's time to let her go to someone who can appreciate it.
