Acquired by the current owner in 2016, this 1990 Porsche 964 Carrera 4 Coupe comes finished in Velvet Red Metallic and was gradually modified over the years including the addition of upgraded coilover suspension, "Big Red" Turbo brakes, aftermarket three-piece wheels, and a fully rebuilt 3.8-liter engine with Rasant individual throttle bodies and GT2 Evo camshafts among many other high-end upgrades.  An uncompromising build for the most enthusiastic air-cooled Porsche driver, this custom 964 Carrera 4 is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Maryland showing just over 78k miles on the odometer.

This 964 comes finished in Velvet Red Metallic, an uncommon color offered for a short time during the early 1990s.  A 964 RS rear bumper has been installed and painted along with front brake duct inserts, Rennline tow hooks, and modern projector headlights.  Some signs of road-going wear are evident, most notably on the front hood and bumper as well as a small chip on the gas filler lid and driver-side mirror.  This 964 rides on aftermarket BBS-style 18” three-piece wheels with gold painted centers and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires from 2017.

The Cashmere Beige interior has been fitted with a pair of racing bucket seats and safety harnesses along with a roll bar, Rennline pedals, phone mount, passenger airbag delete, and a Momo 964 Cup steering wheel mounted on a Rothsport Racing hub and quick-release kit.  The aftermarket stereo system was installed under prior ownership and is currently inoperable.  The original sunroof panel liner has been removed due to sagging and will be included should the next owner choose to reinstall it. The seatbelt warning light also persists unless the corresponding fuse is pulled.

The flat-six engine was rebuilt to a 3.8-liter displacement in 2020 using new Mahle Motorsports 993 RSR 3.8 pistons and cylinders, 102mm bore, 11.4:1 compression ratio, and 23mm pin Pauter 4130 Chromoly 127mm connecting rods with ARP Pro fasteners. Other features include 993 GT2 Evo camshafts with power steering drive, 993 GT2 head studs, a GT3 intake manifold and throttle body conversion, and a Rasant individual throttle body kit.  The cylinder heads have been resurfaced and fitted with upgraded springs and bronze valve guides. The engine is controlled by a MoTeC ECU, wiring harness, and ignition system from Rasant.  The dyno tune was completed at TPC Racing.

Power is sent to all four wheels through a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox featuring a GT3 RS lightweight clutch and flywheel kit,  The suspension has been completely overhauled with ERP monoball, tie rod, spring plate and bump steer kits as well as 964 RS sway bars, 993 M030 rear drop links, Tractive single-adjustable coilovers, monoball top mounts, Swift springs, and a 964 RS alignment.  Stopping power comes from a “Big Red” brake conversion consisting of 993 Turbo front calipers and 332mm rotors, 964 Turbo 3.6 rear calipers and 300mm rotors, stainless steel braided lines, Hawk high-performance street pads, and Motul 600 brake fluid.  The suspension work was completed in 2017 followed by the brakes in 2018.

This sale will include a clean title.

@csanders993 Thank you for your interest and question. The P&C are slip fit. Enjoy!

  • Palpatine (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@sculptedmetal Yes, Velvet Red Metallic is the original color. Enjoy!

  • Palpatine (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@sculptedmetal Thanks for your kind words and interest. I do not have a Certificate of Authenticity if that is what you mean. Also, the engine work was completed in September of 2020 at 75k miles. I did install a 964rs bumper that was painted to match the car, but I am not aware of any accidents with the car. If there was any repaint done I was not told about it by the previous owner. Happy bidding!

    @Palpatine

Congrats on a fascinating and tempting mod p-car. Some questions if you will: 1) Do you have a CoA--is this the original paint color, engine? 2) when was the engine work done (year and mileage)? 3) Am I correct to interpret the report as showing repainting on the L front fender, door and rear fender, which suggest a possible incident on that side? Thank you in advance!

@redgard Thanks for your interest and questions. I no longer have the original seats. Enjoy!

  • csanders993 2 years, 6 monthsago

Are the 3.8 P&C machine in or slip in.

  • redgard (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

Does this car come with its original seats? and if so were they sport seats or comfort?

  • Palpatine (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@WReiter Thanks for your questions and interest. I am told that the blue line is a stock 964 3.6l with a chip, airbox mod, and muffler bypass. The figures are wheel horsepower I am told. Enjoy!

  • Palpatine (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@burnrubr Thanks for your questions and interest. I am told that the dyno shows wheel horsepower. So going with that it looks like the car is making 298.66 wheel horsepower.

  • burnrubr (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

Dynojets are normally generous compared to a Mustang Dyno and that looks like whp numbers (246) or equates to around 300 to the crank. Definitely up by at least 50 hp from a stock 964. I assumed the dynorun was done on 91-93 octane pump gas.

  • WReiter (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

Thanks for posting the dyno sheets. Was the blue line just pre-tune? Were the #'s crank or wheel? Thanks again. I really like this car.

  • burnrubr (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

not sure if I missed it or not but what hp is she making being a 3.8 built with nice goodies? thanks I'll bid now even though I don't need another air cooled toy but just for the spirit.

The car had an oil change today. There was an inspection of the underbody, suspension, brakes, gaskets and all looks in good shape. Any oil stain you see is when the original distributor hole plug fell out and has been replaced with a Clewett Engineering higher quality plug on 9/1/2021. Enjoy!

@tds993 Thank you for your questions and interest. The car was originally going to be street and some track, but it never made it to the track. The car has only done street driving. The AC does work and has been updated to the R134a version. Enjoy!

  • tds993 (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

I've been searching for an Arena red red 993 but this is so tempting. Love the BBS. This appears to have been set up for some DE. Has it seen the track? Is there functioning AC?

@CBRacerX Thank you for your question and interest. The exhaust is a Fabspeed RSR kit with no cats and dual outlet. Just the right amount of sound and growl if you ask me. Enjoy your Memorial Day!

  • CBRacerX (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

Love the motor in this build. What is the exhaust system?

  • Driveresq (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    Thanks @palpatine for responses.

  • Palpatine (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@Driveresq There are seat belts for both sides. The passenger side has a 6pt harness for use with the Racetech 4009 xl seat while the drivers side seat has a Recaro GT seat in black cloth with the original seatbelt being used. I originally had the Racetech seats for both sides, but the Recaro makes it more comfortable for daily driving and thus was installed. Both seats are on sliders. Enjoy!

  • Palpatine (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@Driveresq Thank you for your questions and interest. The roll bar is bolt in and removable if you choose so. There are no other lights on the dash except for the seatbelt light which can be deactivated by removing the fuse. Enjoy!

  • Driveresq (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

Is the roll bar bolted in? Other than the seat belt light is there another warning light on? Are there seat belts?

  • Palpatine (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@WReiter Thank you for your question and interest. I will call the shop on Tuesday when they reopen after the holiday and have them send me the dyno sheet so that I can post it for everyone to see. Enjoy!

  • WReiter (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

I see mention of a Dyno tune. Do you have the Dyno sheet? I'm curious as to tested hp and torque.

  • Palpatine (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

I have enjoyed modding and driving this car over the last several years, but it is time for it to go to a good home. I am traveling for work much more now and have less time to drive the car. The car should be driven hard and enjoyed to its fullest. Someone will get a true 964 outlaw that can tear up the backroads or track if they choose to do so. I will try and answer each and every question. All work performed TPC Racing in Jessup, MD. Ask for Mike Levitas or Tom Chan. Feel free to call them with any questions you might have and to confirm build details etc. Thank you for your time and enjoy your Memorial Day weekend!
